Toxicity effects of some heavy metals on the growth of alga Scenedesmus dimorphus
...Show More Authors

The toxicity effect of some heavy metals (Lead, Cadmium, Copper, and Zinc) on the growth of alga Scenedesmus dimorphus which belongs to the Division of Chlorophyta was studied and depended on the total cell number . The growth rate and doubling time were also calculated accordingly in present of absent of the the heavy metals . There were differences in toxic effects of the metals (p<0.05) . The growth was decreased gradually with alga when exposured to Lead at 15,20 and 25 mg/l in comparison with the control , mean while 30 mg/l caused an acute decrease in growth . Treating the alga with 0.05,0.1,0.5 mg/l concentration of Cadmium the number of cells decreased while at 1 mg/l the effect was more pronounced . As for Copper the concentrations 0.5,1,1.5,2 mg/l and the concentration 2 mg/l had the greatest effect in deceasing growth. Results also showed that the concentration 3 mg/l of Zinc had the greatest effect in decreasing the growth in comparison with the other concentration 0.7, 1, 2 mg/l.

The influence of different concentrations of aqueous green tea extract on methotrexate induced haematological toxicity in rats
...Show More Authors

Methotrexate (MTX), a folic acid antagonist is widely used for the treatment of a variety of tumors. In the present study, the possible protective effect of aqueous green tea extract (AGTE) in methotrexate-induced haematotoxicity was investigated.Four main groups of white Albino rats were used: control group, (MTX) group, following a single dose of MTX (20 mg/kg, i.p.) saline was administered for 5 days. (AGTE) group, was treated with 1.25% concentration of AGTE only for 12 days and the (MTX+AGTE) group, in thism group rats received different concentrations of AGTE (0.625, 1.25 and 2.5%), as their sole source of drinking water, 7days before and 5 days after MTX treatment. MTX induced significant decreases in RBC, Hb, Hct, WBC and pl

Comparison of the Protective Effect of Dapagliflozin and Empagliflozin on Cisplatin-Induced Ovarian Toxicity in Female Rats
...Show More Authors

Background: Cisplatin (CDDP) is an effective chemotherapeutic agent whose gonadotoxicity can lead to premature ovarian insufficiency through oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. Sodium–glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors exhibit cytoprotective effects, but their ovarian effects during chemotherapy remain poorly defined. Methods: Twenty-four female Wistar rats were randomized (n = 6/group) to Control (vehicle), Cisplatin (7 mg/kg, i.p., day 14), Cisplatin + dapagliflozin (DAPA; 0.9 mg/kg/day, p.o., days 1–14), or Cisplatin + empagliflozin (EMPA; 10 mg/kg/day, p.o., days 1–14). At 24 h post-cisplatin, serum estradiol (E2), progesterone, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) were measured
