Smoking-related diseases can be attributed to the inhalation of many different toxins, including heavy metals, which have a host of harmful health effects. The primary objective of this study was to determine whether local and imported cigarette brands used in Iraq , have they elevated levels of metals or not .Three metals Lead (Pb) , Cadmium (Cd) and Chromium(Cr) were determined in tobacco of seventeen brands of imported cigarettes commonly available in Iraq and three Iraqi domestic cigarettes , which were randomly taken from retail market in Baghdad by using flame atomic absorption spectrometry. Background: Metal ions can be released from metallic orthodontic appliances due to corrosion in the oral cavity; prophylactic mouthwashes may have an effect on ion release from orthodontic wires. Materials and Methods: Thirty six orthodontic sets of half maxillary fixed appliance with 2 types of arch wires SS and NiTi(Morelli) were constructed and immersed in 2 types of mouthwashes; Claradone (non-fluoridated) and Silver Care (fluoridated) for 28 days at 37°C, then the released Ni and Cr ionswere measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometer and compared statistically. Results: Ni ion release was higher from NiTi wire group than SS wire group for both mouthwashes and also was higher for Silver Care group than for Claradone group.

     In this research, we obtained nanoparticles (NPs) using a type of microwave (cold plasma) and water extract from Origanum vulgare with the addition of silver nitrate (AgNO3) solution. Silver nanoparticles are characterized by high production techniques. Experimental factors such as morphology, structure, optical properties and active compounds of the nanoparticle extract were studied through specific tests such as morphology, UV spectroscopy, FE-SEM, FT-IR, and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). Plants were used in manufacturing the nanoparticles, as plants are well known for their accessibility and applicability in different pathological areas.
