In this study, the preparation and characterization of hyacinth plant /chitosan composite, as a heavy metal removal, were done. Water hyacinth plant (Eichhorniacrasspes) was collected from Tigris river in Baghdad. The root and shoot parts of plant were ground to powder. Composite materials were prepared at different ratios of plant part (from 2.9% to 30.3%, wt /wt) which corresponds to (30-500mg) of hyacinth plant (root and shoot) and chitosan. The results showed that all examined ratios of plant parts have an excellent absorption to copper (Cu (II)). Moreover, it was observed that 2.9% corresponds (30mg) of plant root revealed highest removal (82.7%) of Pb (II), while 20.23% of shoot removed 61% of Cd (II) within 24 hr

The oxidation desulphurization assisted by ultrasound waves was applied to the desulphurization of heavy naphtha. Hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid were used as oxidants, ultrasound waves as phase dispersion, and activated carbon as solid adsorbent. When the oxidation desulphurization (ODS) process was followed by a solid adsorption step, the performance of overall Sulphur removal was 89% for heavy naphtha at the normal condition of pressure and temperature. The aim of this study is to make the inventory for Umbelliferae family for the purpose of identifying the samples that were collected over long periods and saved in the herbarium of Iraq Natural History Museum/ University of Baghdad. We found that the herbarium plants were very large and varied from different parts for Iraq, in different and varied environments, which collected and arranged according to a very specific system in the herbarium for remaining an important source to all graduate students and researchers to take advantage for these plants. Also, the flowering and fruiting periods for these plants in Iraq were recorded in different regions. Most these plants begin to flower in the spring and thrive at fields and farms.
