...Show More Authors

This study involved the effect of the aqueous extracts of two plants, Origanum vulgare L.(1), Trigonella Foenum Graecum L. (Fenugreek) seeds(2) on the growth of cancer cell lines. Rhabdomyo sarcomas (RD) of human cell line and female intestine cells of Albino mice (L20B) in vitro System. These extracts were compared with the known anticancer drug Cis-platinum(Cis-Pt) as a positive control. The phytochemical tests were used for screening the active compounds in plants. The inhibition activity assay was used as a parameter of the cytotoxic effect of these extracts. Cancer cell lines were treated with four concentrations of Cis-platin, 31.25, 62.5, 125 and 250 ?g/ml for 72 hour exposure time. The same concentrations were used for the other extracts. This study found that the two aqueous extracts (1,2) have a cytotoxic effects on cancer cells as could be seen from their effects on inhibition percentage and the significant differences (p<0.05) which were observed for each extract (1,2) by the increased the inhibition percentage as the concentration was increased. The higher level of inhibition(51.63%) was obtained from 250 ?g/ml of Origanum vulgare extract (1) on RD line and 51.41% on cell line L20B at the same concentration. The cytotoxic effects of extract 1 and 2 on cancer cell line L20B were similar to that on RD cell line. There are no significant differences between two cancer cell line in all used concentrations. The strong relationship which to be found between the concentrations and the two aqueous extracts (1,2) comparable with Cis-Pt drug.

Smoking, Central Obesity, and Periodontitis Among Iraqi Dental Patients: Exploring Metabolic-Behavioral Risk Clustering in a Cross-Sectional Study
...Show More Authors

Smoking and central obesity have both been linked to periodontitis, but their combined relationship with periodontal disease may be influenced by demographic and behavioral factors. This cross-sectional study analyzed records of 420 adult dental patients attending the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad. Data included demographic characteristics, smoking status, periodontal clinical findings, body mass index (BMI), and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR). Periodontitis was defined according to the 2018 classification framework, and logistic regression models were used to examine the associations of smoking and obesity-related indicators with periodontitis. The overall prevalence of periodontitis was 36.4%. Participants with p

MMP-1 and MMP-7 Expression is Influenced by Ginsenosides in Mice Exposed to Aflatoxin B1: in vivo Study
...Show More Authors

Panax ginseng (PG), one of the most widely used herbal medicines, has demonstrated various beneficial effects such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer impacts. Naturally occurring ginsenosides in the ginseng plant inhibit cell proliferation and significantly reduce liver damage induced by certain chemicals. Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is a primary mycotoxin due to its hepatotoxic, immunotoxic, and oncogenic effects in animal models and humans. In this study, we examined the effects of assorted doses of PG aqueous crude extract on the expression of matrix metalloproteinase 1 and 7 (MMP-1 and MMP-7) in the kidney, spleen, and liver of experimental AFB1-exposed mice, using immunohistochemistry (IHC). Mice were orally administered

Integrated biomass algae @ cross-linked pyromellitic dianhydride chitosan biocomposite for methyl violet 2B adsorption: modelling and experiment design optimization
...Show More Authors

A new adsorbent was developed by integrating algae biomass (AG) into a chitosan (CN) matrix, followed by structural enhancement via crosslinking with pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) through a hydrothermal synthesis approach. This process resulted in the formation of a robust AG@CN-PMDA composite with improved physicochemical characteristics suitable for advanced adsorption applications. The AG@CN-PMDA composite was evaluated for its efficiency in removal of the cationic dye methyl violet 2B (MV 2B) from aqueous solution. The adsorption process was refined through the Box-Behnken design (RSM-BBD), evaluating three essential parameters: adsorbent dosage (A: 0.02–0.1 g/100 mL), pH (B: 4–10), and time (C: 5–20 min). The ideal conditions f
