Evaluating the Inhibitory Activity of Apigenin Extracted from Salvia officinalis leaves on the Growth of L20B Cancer Cell Line

The study aimed to evaluating the inhibitory activity of apigenin extracted from Salvia officinalis leaves on the growth of L20B cancer cell in vitro, and through two incubation periods; 48 and 72 hours. Accordingly, eight concentrations (1.56, 3.13, 6.25, 12.5, 25.0, 50.0, 100.0 and 200.0 micromol) of apigenin and similar concentrations of vitamin C and carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) were tested. The apigenin revealed its significant inhibitory potentials against the growth of L20B cell line, especially at the low concentrations (1.56, 3.13 and 6.25 micromol) and at 72 incubation period in comparison with vitamin C and CCl4.

Synthesis, Characterization and Anticancer Activity of Chitosan Schiff Base / PVP Gold Nano Composite in Treating Esophageal Cancer Cell Line

In the present paper, chitosan Schiff base has been synthesized from chitosan’s reaction with the salicyldehyde. The AuNPs was manufacture by extract of onion peels as a reducing agent. The Au NPs that have been prepared were characterized through the UV-vis spectroscopy, XRD analyses and SEM microscopy. The polymer blends of the chitosan Schiff base / PVP has been prepared through using the approach of solution casting. Chitosan Schiff base / PVP Au nano-composites was prepared. Nano composites and polymer blends have been characterized by FTIR which confirm the formation of Schiff base by revealing a new band of absorption at 1651cm-1 as a result of the (C=N) imine group. SEM, DSC and TGA confirms the thermal stability of the pr

Inhibitory Effects of Aqueous Extract of Garlic on Growth and Keratinase Activity of Trichophyton Mentagrophytes

Background: The effect of garlic extracton fungal
growth and keratinolytic activity was studied in
Trichophytonmentagrophytes as one of the major
etiologic agents of human and animal dermatophytosis
in Baghdad and other parts of the World.
Objective: To investigated an alternative
antidermatophyte with minimum side effects which is
plant based and biodegradable natural product
Methods: Culture conditions for 30 isolates of T.
mentagrophytes isolated from human dermatophytosis
from both sexes with ages of 5-63 years in Central
Medical city for the period July 2009 to October 2009
were cultured on specific solid medium.
Results: The aqueous extract of garlic at various
concentrations inhibited the

Evaluation of Compounds Extracted from Eight Genera of Wild Mushrooms from Nigeria for Anti-cell Proliferation Activity in Vitro

Mushrooms have bioactive compounds that have antimicrobial, anti-cancer and antioxidant activities among other medicinal benefits. In the present study, we examined the anti-cell proliferation activities of mushrooms from eight genera obtained from the wild in Nigeria. Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used as a model organism to screen mushroom extracts for anti-cell proliferation activity. Polyphenols, high molecular weight polysaccharides and low molecular weight compounds from aqueous extracts were obtained from the test mushrooms using methanol and water respectively. The extracts were screened in vitro at different concentrations of extracts with the CyQuant cell proliferation assay. The high molecular

Antimicrobial Activities of Aqueous and Methanolic Extracts from Salvia officinalis and Salix acmophylla Used in the treatment of wound infection isolates

The aqueous and methanol extracts of Salvia officinals and Salix acmoplylla traditionally used for the treatment of infections disease were tested for their active  against gram positive and gram negative bacteria isolated from wound  infection culture using the broth dilution and disc diffusion melhod. Results of   this study revealed the prescence of phytochemical which were  active  against gram positive and negative bacteria. Methanol extracts of both plants showed  the highest activity other the aqueous extract. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the aqueous extracts on the test organism was  25- 100 mg\ml,while that of the  methanol extract was ranged betwee

Mitochondrial Activity of the Locally Established Rat Embryo Fibroblast Cell Line Through Different Passages

Background: Mitochondria are the cell’s powerhouse, the site where the vast majority of ATP is synthesized. Mitochondrial activity represent a central checkpoint for detection of the difference between cancer cells and normal cells at the metabolic profile.
Objective: To find out if there is a correlation between in vitro transformation and mitochondrial activity, by measuring the activity during clonal evolution of the locally established rat embryo fibroblast (REF) cell line throughout studying different passages.
Materials & Methods: The (REF) cell line, was in vitro cultured. Mitochondria were isolated by differential centrifugation following Mitochondria Isolation Kit. Enzymatic activity of intact mitochondria has been m

Apoptotic Activity of methionine γ- lyase on several cancer cell lines

The apoptotic activity of methionine γ- lyase from Pseudomonas putida on cancer cell lines was indicated by measuring the concentration of cytochrome c in the supernatants of cell lines. The result revealed high concentration of cytochrome c in the supernatants of cancer cell lines (RD, AMGM and AMN3) respectively while the concentration of anti-apoptotic protein (Bcl-2) was very low.

Evaluating the in vitro Cytotoxicity of Thymus vulgaris Essential Oil on MCF-7 and HeLa Cancer Cell Lines

Thyme essential oil (TEO) was extracted from dried leaves of Thymus vulgaris. The air-dried aerial parts of the plant produced 1.0% yield of TEO. The detection of this essential oil’s compounds was performed by GC-MASS. The cytotoxic activity of TEO was evaluated against two human cancer cell lines, namely HeLa (human epithelial cervical cancer) and MCF-7 (human breast carcinoma). Cells grown in 96 multi-well plates were treated with six concentrations of EO (6.25, 12.5, 25, 50, 100, 200 ppm) and incubated at 37 °C for 72 hrs. Cancer cell lines elicited various degrees of sensitivity to the cytotoxic effect of essential oil. The TEO exhibited significant differences (p≤ 0.01) between the effects of
