...Show More Authors

Abstract

urgent surgical intervention and appendectomy until now represent standard treatment for uncomplicated cases of appendicitis. Nausea, vomiting and pain after surgery are the most frequent issues facing patients and affecting patient quality of life and responsible for many cases of readmission after surgery. Ketorolac and diclofenac represent the most commonly prescribed non-steroidal anti-inflammatory used in postoperative setting and they cause many side effects as gastrointestinal, kidney and cardiac adverse effect in addition to increased risk of bleeding. Paracetamol is currently among the most frequently prescribed medication worldwide and it can be used safely for all age groups. This study aimed to compare the analgesic efficacy and safety of paracetamol, diclofenac, and ketorolac when used after appendectomy and to assess their efficacy regarding nausea and vomiting in children and adolescents. A randomized, single-blinded, comparative, observational prospective clinical study was carried out on patients diagnosed with acute appendicitis and assigned for emergent appendectomy between October 2018 to May 2019 in Al- Zahraa Teaching Hospital in Al-Najaf province, Iraq.120 patients were randomly distributed into three groups who received diclofenac sodium suppositories (2mg/kg), IV Paracetamol )15mg/ kg every 6 hr.(, and IV  Ketorolac )0.5mg/ kg( immediately after surgery. All patients were observed for pain, nausea and vomiting and bleeding. Patients received ketorolac had a high percentage of the decrease in pain score between 30 and 60 min. after surgery, while paracetamol was the next and diclofenac sodium was the last. Regarding nausea and vomiting after surgery, ketorolac had higher percentage of the decrease in nausea, vomiting score during first day after surgery followed by diclofenac and paracetamol respectively. The present study also showed that there is no significant difference between groups regarding bleeding after surgery. It is concluded that ketorolac has higher analgesic efficacy compared with paracetamol and diclofenac with no risk of nausea and vomiting and bleeding when used after appendectomy.

Keywords: Postoperative pain, Ketorolac, Diclofenac, Paracetamol, Appendectomy.

The present study aims at finding out areas of difficulty that Iraqi EFL learners encounter in the use of synonymy and antonymy, both on the recognition and production levels. Also tries to detect the main reasons behind such difficulties. A diagnostic test of two parts, namely, recognition and production, is designed. The test is built to include two linguistic phenomenon which are: synony

Effect of Liver Enzymes, Oxidative Stress and Vitamin D3 in Psoriatic Patients
...Show More Authors

Psoriasis is one of the skin’s chronic inflammatory diseases. Psoriasis etiology isn’t exactly known. Recently, it has been suggested that the imbalances in oxidant-antioxidant status happening because of the increase in reactive oxygen species production (ROS) and/or deficient function regarding the antioxidant system might be included in psoriasis pathogenesis. The major goal is to evaluate the antioxidant defense status in patients experiencing psoriasis and oxidative stresses represented by malondialdehyde (MDA) level and evaluate liver enzymes and vitamin D3. There are some tests of biochemical parameters and vitamins (GSH, MDA, VitD3, SOD, GPx, CAT, AST, ALT, and ALP) are conducted on 35 patients experiencing psoriasi

Undoubtedly, Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs) are a major dilemma in term of mortality and morbidity facing the road users as well as the traffic and road authorities. Since 2002, the population in Iraq has increased by 49 percent and the number of vehicles by three folds. Consequently, these increases were unfortunately combined with rising the RTAs number, mortality and morbidity. Alongside the humanitarian tragedies, every year, there are considerable economic losses in Iraq lost due to the epidemic of RTAs. Given the necessity of understanding the contributory factors related to RTAs for the implementation by traffic and road authorities to improve the road safety, the necessity have been a rise for

Language plays a major role in all aspects of life. Communication is regarded as the most important of these aspects, as language is used on a daily basis by humanity either in written or spoken forms. Language is also regarded as the main factor of exchanging peoples’ cultures and traditions and in handing down these attributes from generation to generation. Thus, language is a fundamental element in identifying peoples’ ideologies and traditions in the past and the present. Despite these facts, the feminist linguists have objections to some of the language structures, demonstrating that language is gender biased to men. That is, language promotes patriarchal values. This pushed towards developing extensive studies to substantiate s

Marigold flowers contain several chemical constituents mainly flavonoids, triterpenoids and essential oil. In this study marigold flowers cultivated in Iraq had been investigated for its flavonoids content. The study revealed the presence of quercetin and kaempferol glycosides and the absence of myricetin glycosides. The flowers were extracted with ethanol 70% fractionated with different solvent and the flavonoids were isolated by preparative HPLC. The isolated flavonoids were identified by measuring melting points, UV, IR,

An accurate and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of cefotaxime (CEF) in pure and pharmaceutical samples. The suggested method depended on the coupling reaction between diazotized cefotaxime and 3,5-dimethyl phenol (3,5-DMPH) in basic medium to form light orange, water soluble dye, that is stable and has a maximum absorbance at 497nm. The calibration graph was liner over the concentration range (1-70) µg.mL-1 with LOD of 0.750 µg.mL-1 and LOQ of. 2.740 µg. mL-1, sandal sensitivity of 0.0526 µg. cm-2 . molar absorptivity 11328 Lmol-1 cm-1 .
