Formulation and in vitro Evaluation of In-situ Gelling Liquid Suppositories for Naproxen
...Show More Authors

In-situ gelation is a process of gel formation at the site of application, in which a drug product formulation that exists as a liquid has been transformed into a gel upon contact with body fluids. As a drug delivery agent, the in-situ gel has an advantage of providing sustained release of the drug agent.  In-situ gelling liquid suppositories using poloxamer 188 (26-30% W/W) as a suppository base with 10% W/W naproxen were prepared, the gelation temperature of these preparations were measured and they were all above the physiological temperature. Additives such as polyvinylpyrrolidin "PVP" ,hydroxylpropylmethylcellulose  "HPMC", sodium alginate and sodium chloride were used in concentration ranging from (0.25-1%W/W) to modulate the gelation temperature and gel strength .The best preparation was obtained through using a combination of poloxamer 188, sodium alginate, naproxen and distilled water (29,0.5,10and 60.5 % W/W respectively)with gelation temperature of 33.6ºC±0.2 and gel strength of 28±2 seconds. The release of drug from this preparation was sustained for about 12 hours and it was faster than conventional solid suppository (Proxen® 500) and oral tablets (Naproxen®500) using dialysis tubing method.

In Vitro Cytotoxic Study for Purified Resveratrol Extracted from Grape Skin Fruit Vitis vinifera
...Show More Authors

This study  was  conducted  with the  aim to  extract and  purify  a  polyphenolic  compound  â€œ Resveratrol” from the skin of black grapes Vitis vinifera cultivated in Iraq. The purified resveratrol is obtained after ethanolic extraction with 80% v/v solution for fresh grape skin, followed by acid hydrolysis   with   10%   HCl   solution then   the  aglycon   moiety   was  taken  with   organic   solvent

( chloroform). Using silica gel G60 packed glass column chromatography with mobile phase benzene: methanol: acetic acid  20:4:1 a

In vitro anticancer efficiency of vitex negundo extracts
...Show More Authors

Background. Vitex negundo is a medicinal plant rich in bioactive phytochemicals, particularly phenolic and flavonoid compounds, which have been associated with antioxidant and anticancer activities. Natural plant-derived compounds have gained increasing attention as potential alternatives for cancer therapy due to their lower toxicity and diverse pharmacological properties. Aim. To evaluate the antioxidant and anticancer activities of aqueous and alcoholic leaf extracts of Vitex negundo through phytochemical analysis, antioxidant assessment, and cytotoxic evaluation against the human breast cancer cell line (MCF-7). Methods. Leaves of Vitex negundo were extracted using aqueous and 80% methanolic solvents by Soxhlet extraction. Total flavono

Investigate Retention Behavior of 2-deoxycytidine in Hydrophilic Interaction Liquid Chromatography
...Show More Authors

A hydrophilic interaction chromatography has been investigated to separate 2-deoxycytidine chosen for nucleoside. A small molecule with specific features for human serum samples was 2-deoxycytidine tested. 2-deoxycytidine has been applied to self-made stationary hydrophilic phases (ZIC1 and ZIC5). The deoxycytidine (dCD) retention was investigated with varying concentrations of sodium acetate buffer, acetonitrile%, and pH. The results confirmed the hydrophilicity of 2-deoxycytidine. The exchanger retention mechanism was studied taking into account 2-deoxycytidine used for describing the interaction of hydrophilic and cation. For both ZIC1 and ZIC5 exchangers, we described and discussed the influence of chromatographic conditions (co

Effect of Solid Properties on Axial Liquid Dispersion in Bubble Column
...Show More Authors

Experiments were conducted to study axial liquid dispersion coefficient in slurry bubble column of 0.15 m inside diameter and 1.6 m height using perforated plate gas distributor of 54 holes of a size equal to 1 mm diameter and with a 0.24 free area of holes to the cross sectional area of the column. The three phase system consists of air, water and PVC used as the solid phase. The effect of solid loading (0, 30 and 60 kg/m3) and solid diameter (0.7, 1.5 and 3 mm) on the axial liquid dispersion coefficient at different axial location (25, 50 and 75 cm) and superficial gas velocity covered homogeneous-heterogeneous flow regime (1-10 cm/s) were studied in the present work. The results show that the axial liquid dispersion coeffic

Regeneration and Cormels Production of White Prosperity and Priscilla Gladiolus Varities In Vitro
...Show More Authors

Plant regeneration and cormel production was carried out from callus cultures initiated from White Prosperity and Priscilla Gladiolus Varities. It is aimed to produce plants and cormels in vitro all year round. The study included many experiments, these were the effect of Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) and Kinetin (Kin) interaction on callus initiation, effect of Benzyl adenine (BA) on shoot regeneration from callus culture, effect of NAA on rooting after 30, 40 and 50 days in culture. The role of the type of agricultural medium (Peat moss or river sand and their mixture on plantlets survival after weaning was studied. Results showed that the interaction between NAA and Kin induced callus on axillary bud explants. Callus was best ini

A fluorescence microscopy considered as a powerful imaging tool in biology and medicine. In addition to useful signal obtained from fluorescence microscopy, there are some defects in its images such as random variation in brightness, noise that caused by photon detection and some background pixels in the acquired fluorescence microscopic images appear wrongly auto-fluorescence property. All these practical limitations have a negative impact on the correct vision and analysis of the fluorescent microscope users. Our research enters the field of automation of image processing and image analysis using image processing techniques and applying this processing and analysis on one of the very important experiments in biology science. Evaluation of ANFIS and Regression Techniques in Estimating Soil Compression Index for Cohesive soils
...Show More Authors

Generally, direct measurement of soil compression index (Cc) is expensive and time-consuming. To save time and effort, indirect methods to obtain Cc may be an inexpensive option. Usually, the indirect methods are based on a correlation between some easier measuring descriptive variables such as liquid limit, soil density, and natural water content. This study used the ANFIS and regression methods to obtain Cc indirectly. To achieve the aim of this investigation, 177 undisturbed samples were collected from the cohesive soil in Sulaymaniyah Governorate in Iraq. Results of this study indicated that ANFIS models over-performed the Regression method in estimating Cc with R2 of 0.66 and 0.48 for both ANFIS and Regre
