A sensitive and selective method have been developed for the determination of palladium (II)and platinum (II) . A new reagent and two complexes have been prepared in ethanolic solutions .The method is based on the chelation of metal ions with 4-(4?- pyrazolon azo) resorcinol (APAR) to form intense color soluble products, that are stable and have a maximum absorption at 595 nm and at 463 nm and ?max of 1.11×10 4 and.1.35 ×104 Lmole-1cm-1 for Pd(II) Pt(II) respectively. A linear correlation of (1.4 – 0.2) and (3.2 -0.4 ) ppm for pd(II) pt(II) respectively .The stability constants , relative errors , a relative standard deviations for Pd(II) and Pt(II) were 0.40×105 , 0.4×104 L mol-1 ,0.34 - 0.21% and 2.4 – 0.91% respectively.

A new tridentate ligand has been synthesized derived from phenyl(pyridin-3-yl)methanone. Three coordinated metal complexes were prepared by complexation of the new ligand with Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) metal salts. The new Schiff base “benzyl -2-[phenyl(pyridin-3-yl)methylidene]hydrazinecarbodithioate” and the new metal complexes were characterized using various physico-chemical and spectroscopic techniques. From the analysis results, the expected structure to the metal complexes are octahedral in geometry for Cu(II) complex, square planner for Ni(II) and tetrahedral for Zn(II) complex. The new compounds are expected to show strong bioactivity against bacteria and cancer cells.

This study aims to assess the removal efficiency andestablish the BOD5 and COD statisticalcorrelation of the sewage flowing in Al-Diwaniyah wastewater treatment plant in Iraq during the study period (2005-2016). The strength of the influent wastewater entering the plant varied from medium to high in strength. High concentrations of BOD5 and COD in the effluent were obtained due to the poor performance of the plant. This was observed from the BOD5 /COD ratios that did not confirm with the typical ratios for the treated sewage. Um-Al-Naaj region in Al-Hawiezah Marsh, Southern Iraq was chosen to study the environmental variations of some water characteristics during 2008, seasonally. The results showed clear seasonal changes in values of some environmental variables (temperature, depth, light penetration, turbidity, total suspended solids, pH, dissolved oxygen, reactive phosphate, reactive nitrite, and reactive nitrate), while there were no clear seasonal changes in electrical conductivity and salinity values.
