Lipid -Lowering Effect of Polysaccharide (Pectin) of Viscum album L. Plant in Rats
...Show More Authors

Disturbances of lipid metabolism is a predisposing factor of cardiovascular diseases, which are accompanied by high mortality rates of the population - ischemic heart disease and ischemic stroke. Plant polysaccharides can be promising remedies for correction of lipid imbalance.

In this regard, the aim of the study was to assess the hypolipidemic activity of polysaccharides isolated from the leaves of mistletoe.

The test-object was the leaves of the white mistletoe (Viscum album L.) growing on the apple (Malus domestica Borkh.), and the pear (Pyrus communis L.). Polysaccharides (water-soluble polysaccharides and pectin substances) were quantitatively determined by the gravimetric method followed by reprecipitation from ethanol. The qualitative composition was evaluated by thin layer chromatography. Functional groups in polysaccharides were determined by titrimetric method. The hypolipidemic activity of the obtained polysaccharides was determined under oral administration at a dose of 100 mg / kg in Wistar rats by the change of the concentration of total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL and HDL cholesterol. The change of the content of cholesteryl ester transfer protein and Niemann-Pick C1-Like1 protein was also determined.

As a result, it was found that among the polysaccharides in the leaves of mistletoe, pectin substances are predominate, which belong to the group of low-esterified pectins. A significant content of free carboxyl groups in pectins from the leaves of mistletoe was also found. The study of hypolipidemic activity showed that, among the polysaccharides of mistletoe leaves, pectin substances exert a more pronounced effect on lipid metabolism, the use of which reduced the content of triglycerides, total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol with an increase in LDL cholesterol in rats, probably due to a decrease in the activity of cholesteryl ester transfer protein and Niemann-Pick C1-Like1 protein. At the same time, at the level of the trend, mistletoe pectins showed a higher level of activity than analogous compounds obtained from the leaves of host-plants. It should be noted that the severity of the pharmacological effect of mistletoe pectins did not depend on the host-plants.

Thus, based on the obtained results, it can be assumed that pectins obtained from the mistletoe leaves can be a potentially effective and safety hypolipidemic agent.

The effect of Tramadol on some blood and biochemical parameters of male rats (Rattus norvegicus)
...Show More Authors

The present study aimed to explain the dose-dependent possible deleterious effects of 30 day administration of Tramadol on some hematological and biochemical parameters of laboratory male rats (Rattus norvegicus), the study consisted of eighteen adult male rats randomly divided into three equal groups (each of six). Group 1 (control) were treated by intraperitoneal injection of normal saline solution (0.2 ml), group two (low dose) was treated by intraperitonealy (i.p) injection of Tramadol at a dose of 50 mg/kg/day, group three (high dose) was treated by intraperitonealy injection of Tramadol at a dose of 100 mg/kg/day for 30 days. At the end of experimental period, rats were sacrificed. Blood were collected by cardiac puncture to inv

Effect of Testosterone Enanthate Modeling of Polycystic Ovary on Liver Irs-2 mRNA Expression in Rats: A Brief Report
...Show More Authors

There are many animal models for polycystic ovary (PCO); using exogenous testosterone enanthate is one of the methods of induction of these models. However, induction of insulin resistance should also be studied in the modeling technics. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate the expression of insulin receptor substrate (Irs)-2 mRNA in the liver tissue of rat PCO model. Nineteen Wistar rats were divided into three groups; (1) PCO modeling group (N =7) received daily 1.0 mg/100g testosterone enanthate solved in olive oil along with free access dextrose water 5%, (2) vehicle group (N =6), which handled like the PCO group, but did not receive testosterone enanthate, (3) control group (N =6) with standard care. Effect of Alstonia Boonei Stem Bark Extracts on the Activity of Liver Maker Enzymes in Rats Induced by Ccl4
...Show More Authors

This study investigated the outcome of Alstonia boonei stem bark on liver enzymes after inducing the Wistar albino rats with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). This effect of plant extract was compared with silymarin – a drug commonly used for the treatment of chronic hepatocyte disorder. The plant sample was extracted with ethanol; acute toxicity study of the extract was performed on eighteen Wistar mice, while 30 rats were sacrificed for liver enzymes assay. The rats were divided into six clusters: each cluster has five rats, culster 1 served as control and was given 2 mL/kg b.w - distilled water; clusters 2 – 6 were CCl4 induced. Cluster 2 was untreated but served as the negative control while cluster 3 wa

The Effect of Thymosin Beta 4 on Developing Dental Tissue (Experimental Study on Rats)
...Show More Authors

Background: Odontogenisis is a complex process controlled by dynamic and reciprocal interactions that regulated by various molecules. Thymosin β4 is a small bioactive peptide with wide spectrum biological effects on much cell types. The present study was designed to highlight the effect of synthetic exogenous Tβ4 on developing dental tissue of the upper central teeth of rats, by histological examination and immunohistochemical evaluation of TGFβ1. Materials and method: Thirty six Albino Wister pregnant rat 18control group received intraperitoneal injection of normal saline and the others are experimental group received 50µg/300µl of Tβ4 injection. The animals were sacrificed at periods 16th and 18th day I.U.L and one day p

The Effect of Applying K-W-L Technique on Teaching ESP Students
...Show More Authors

Over the last few decades, many instructors have been trying all kinds of teaching methods, but without benefit. Nevertheless, in the 1986, a new technique is appeared which called K-W-L technique, it  is specified for reading comprehension passages because reading  skill is not easy matter for students for specific purposes (ESP).therefore, the K-W-L technique is a good one for thinking and experiences. To fulfill the aims and verify the hypothesis which reads as follows" it is hypothesized that there are no significant differences between the achievements of students who are taught according to K-W-L technique and those who are taught according to the traditional method

Assessment of lipid profile with HbA1c in type 2 diabetic Iraqi patients
...Show More Authors

Insulin-induced hyperglycemia is the hallmark of diabetes mellitus (DM), including various metabolic disorders. Diabetic people are more likely to develop dyslipidemia, hypertension, and obesity. Type 2 diabetes ‎(T2DM), the most common illness, is generally asymptomatic in its early stages and can go misdiagnosed for years. Diabetes screening may be beneficial in some cases since early identification and treatment can lessen the burden of diabetes and its consequences.‎ This study aimed to find the relationship between Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) ‎and lipid profile components in T2DM‎ patients.   In this study, the possible protective effects of daidzein on ifosfamide-induced neurotoxicity in male rats were examined by the determination of changes in selected oxidant–antioxidant markers of male rats’ brain tissue.

Twenty-eight (28) apparently-healthy Wistar male rats weighing (120-150gm) allocated into 4 groups (n=7) were used in this study. Rats orally-administered 1% tween 20 dissolved in distilled water/Control (Group I); rats were orally-administered daidzein suspension (100mg/kg) for 7 days (Group II); rats intraperitoneally-injected with a single dose of ifosfamide (500 mg/kg) (Group III); rats orally-administered for 7 days with the daidzein (100mg/
