Interactive effects of coco peat and organic fermented foliar sprays on growth, yield, and quality of cauliflower (Brassica oleracea)
...Show More Authors

Sustainable agriculture requires eco-friendly inputs to improve crop productivity while reducing reliance on chemicals. Coco peat enhances root growth and nutrient availability, while fermented fish waste and sugarcane juice provide essential nutrients and growth stimulants. To further evaluate, a study was carried out during the fall season of 2024–2025 at University of Baghdad – Al-Jadiryah campus. Following standard field preparation, cauliflower (Brassica oleracea cv. Casper) saplings were transplanted on October 15, 2024, into raised beds in double rows (75 cm × 40 cm). The trial was conducted as a 5×3 factorial experiment in a split-plot RCBD, with coco peat as the main plot and foliar sprays as subplot. The main plot comprised of application of coco peat at three rates (0, 2, and 4 kg/m²), while the sub plot involved foliar application of sugarcane juice ferment and fish waste ferment at two concentrations each (3 and 6 mL/L), in addition to a distilled water control. The results showed that the two-way interaction between 4 kg/m² of coco peat and foliar application of fish ferment at 6 mL/L significantly enhanced vegetative growth, resulting in the highest number of leaves (35.33 leaves/plant), largest leaf area (38.08 dm²), and highest chlorophyll content (50.10 SPAD units). The same treatment also excelled in plant yield traits (flower head diameter, flower head weight and total yield), recording 24.33 cm, 2.12 kg, and 70.83 t/ha, respectively. The treatment also gave the highest content of secondary metabolites (folic acid, choline and sulforaphane) in flower heads with values of 133.2 mg/g, 66.04 mg/100 g, and 49.07 mg/100g, respectively, while the control treatment recorded the highest nitrate concentration in the flower heads at 841.3 mg/100 g.

Study of Seed Soaking and Foliar Application of Ascorbic Acid, Citric Acid and Humic Acid on Growth, Yield and Active Components In Maize
...Show More Authors

Foliar application and seed soaking has been used as a means of supplying supplemental doses of nutrients, plant hormones, stimulants, and organic components. the effects of these applications have included yield increases, and improved drought tolerance, and enhanced crop quality, so A field experiment was carried out during spring seasons in 2019 and 2020 for styding Seed soaking and Foliar Application of Ascorbic acid, Citric acid and Humic acid on Growth, Yield and Active Components IN Maize. Randomized complete block design in split plots arrangement was used with three replicates. Main-plots were for seeds soaking with ascorbic, citric (100 mg l-1) frequently and humic at (1 ml l-1). Sub-plots were for vegetative parts nutrition with

ABSTRACT

A field experiment was carried out in the fields of the college of agricultural engineering sciences, university of Baghdad during the fall season of 2021, in order to find out which of the cultivated genotypes of maize are efficient under nitrogen fertilization. The experiment was applied according to a RCBD (split plot design with three replications). The genotypes of experiment (Baghdad, 5018 and Sarah) and  supplying three levels of nitrogen fertilizer, which are N1 (100 kg/ha),  N2 (200 kg/ha) and N3  (300 kg/ha), the results of the statistical analysis are showed the superiority of the cultivar Sarah in the trait of number of days until 50% silking, chlorophyll

Impact of Nitrogen Rate in Conventional and Organic Production Systems on Yield and Bread Baking Quality of Soft Red Winter Wheat
...Show More Authors

Soft red winter wheat (SRW) is characterized by high yield and relatively low protein content. In Kentucky, there is growing demand from local artisan bread bakers for regionally produced flour, requiring production of grain with increased protein content and/or strength. The objective of this two-year field experiment was to evaluate the effect of nitrogen (N) management on five cultivars of winter wheat on yield and bread baking quality traits of modern and landrace SRW cultivars (Triticum aestivum L.). All five cultivars were evaluated using two N application rates in conventional and organic production systems. All traits measured were significantly affected by the agricultural production system and N rate, although plant height

Abstract<p>A field experiment was implemented during during of crop year 2023-2024 at the Agricultural Engineering Research Station of the University of Baghdad to evaluate the influence of row orientation and planting density on certain growth traits, grain yield, and quality indices of bread wheat cultivars. The experiment was designed as a split-plot arrangement within a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The main plots included three wheat cultivars (Iba’a-99, Buhooth-22, and Buhooth-10), while the subplots consisted of three planting densities (80, 100, and 120 kg ha−1), and the sub-sub plots were assigned to two row orientations: East-</p> ...
