Abstract. Iraq is characterized by a distinctive botanical and geological diversity with different plant families, monocotyledons and dicotyledons, the spread of dicotyledonous plants was more unique and of other species, For example, in Al-Tib, Maysan, Iraq, which through field trips to study the plant diversity and the surrounding conditions at these areas, it was found that the species belong for many plant families, dicotyledonous and monocotyledonous plants, including: Amaranthaceae, Apiaceae, Asteraceae, Boraginaceae, Brassicaceae, Capparidaceae, Caprifoliaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Convolvulaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Fabaceae, Geraniaceae, Lamiaceae, Malvaceae, Papaveraceae, Plantaginaceae, Primulaceae, Salicaceae, Ranunculaceae, Solanaceae,

Geological and Sedimentological Controls on Plant Distribution in the Al-Muthana Desert, Southern Iraq
...Show More Authors

The floristic survey of the Al-Muthana Desert recorded 74 species representing 27 families. Amaranthaceae was the most represented family, followed by Asteraceae and Poaceae, reflecting the prevalence of desert-adapted taxa. Species richness and diversity varied among the studied stations. St5 and St6 each contained 13 species, whereas St8 had the highest richness, with 24 species. The Shannon diversity index (H′) ranged from 2.370 to 2.880, and Pielou's evenness (J) ranged from 0.890 to 0.965. The consistently low dominance values (0.056–0.106) indicated relatively balanced plant communities. St8 exhibited the highest richness, whereas St5 and St6 exhibited the lowest. Euclidean distances indicated substantial differences among station

Non-Diatomic Diversity and Community Structure in Hoor-Al- Azime Marshes, Iran

Abstract
This study was conducted to delineate diversity and species composition of non-diatoms planktonic algae in Hoor- Al- Azime marshes, Iran. The samples were collected from four sites at monthly basis from April 2011 to March 2012. A total 88 taxa were identified, out of which (40 taxa, 45.45%) belonging to Cyanophyta followed by Chlorophyta (29 taxa, 32.96%), Euglenophyta (18 taxa, 20.45%) and (1 taxa, 1.14%) of Dinophyta recorded. Comparing species richness (65 taxa, 34.76%) at Shat- Ali (St4) was the highest and the lowest (34 taxa, 18.18%) was observed at Rafi (St2). Species occurrence was associated with temperature where in summer (66 taxa) and (25 taxa) encountered winter. The phy
... Show More

Geographical Changes in the Marshes of Iraq
...Show More Authors

Iraq has a range of small and large marshes, which can be divided into two groups, a group of marshes feeding water from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, and a group of marshes fed by the seasonal valleys coming from the desert plateau and the aljazera plateau.

The marshes have go through major changes, some of them turning into industrial lakes to store the flood waters of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Others have been dried up and turned into agricultural land. Others have dried up and the water has been returned to them in less quantities than before.

The purpose of this research is to but light on the changes that have occurred in these marshes, with the mention of marshes turned into industrial lakes or agricultur

Diversity of Freshwater Fishes in Iraq
...Show More Authors

Many studies have focused on identifying and classifying freshwater fishes in Iraq, concerned with describing, organizing, and drawing up a list of freshwater fishes in Iraq or the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Within the most recent updates at the beginning of 2023, 53 native freshwater and 20 exotic (alien or introduced) fish species are recorded and described. This study reviewed the database of morphology and molecular studies of freshwater fish in Iraq and reported species while surveying the fish fauna at different water bodies of the country from 2010 to the beginning of 2023. In conclusion, 29 species (about 40.3%) of all 72 fish species in Iraq still need to be available information on their molecular data.

Assessment of Soil and Water Properties in the Central Marshes Southern Iraq
...Show More Authors

The Central Marshes are one of southern Iraq's most important wetlands and ecosystems. A study on evaluating soil quality and water quality in terms of chemical properties at certain sites in the southern Iraqi Central Marshes has been conducted to investigate their types and suitability for enhancing the agricultural reality of most field crops. Soil and water samples were collected from 15 sites and transferred to the laboratory. In the lab, the following parameters were determined: electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved salts (TDS), organic materials (OM), pH, gypsum, and total sulfate content (SO3). The tests conducted on the samples indicated that it could be said that the soil of the Central Marshes

planning and design of a tourist village in the marshes of southern Iraq

This study analyzes how to make use of the resources in the marshlands of Iraq and how to utilize them, especially after the water returns to these areas and they are revitalized. We take an example of AL- Saheen Marsh and plan an ideal tourist resort there. This example can further expand to include other parts of the marshlands. The resort will utilize the local environment and tourist characteristics as it will have a feel and architectural resemblance to the houses and buildings that are currently built there. In addition the transportation methods will be the same as those used by the locals. Yet the resort will still posses all the facilities required by a modern tourist resort that includes all the services that will make
