Qualitative Researches in Media and Communication Sciences: Theoretical Highlights and Applied Pathways
...Show More Authors

The debate on the methodology of media and communication research is no longer subject to the logic of the contradiction between the quantitative and the qualitative approach, nor the logic of the comparison between them. The nature of the topics presented for research, the problems they raise, the goals to be achieved from the research, and the epistemological positioning of researchers are among the critical factors that dictate the appropriate approach or methodological approaches to conduct their research. This positioning means the implicit philosophical principles upon which any researcher relies and which determine the path he/ she takes to produce scientifically approved knowledge. The method of the researcher's access to the phenomenon considered and the aim of its study are what controls his/ her epistemological position.
Therefore, it can be said that we reduce the debate concerning the methodology of scientific research if we limit the difference between the quantitative and qualitative approach to saying that the first depends on numbers and the second depends on words. The difference between them is philosophical and epistemological.
If we are satisfied that the qualitative research allows for a comprehensive understanding of phenomena and delves deep into the analysis of social data; and that quantitative research is a form of scrutiny of the surface of social facts, then defining the specificity of qualitative research requires approaching more of its philosophical and epistemological framework

ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF THE STABILITY OF SOME LIMESTONE ISLANDS IN HA LONG BAY, QUANG NINH PROVINCE OF VIETNAM, A WORLD NATURAL HERITAGE
...Show More Authors

The analytical results of the failure types of six limestone islands in the Ha Long bay of Vietnam have been identified. The calculated results of safety factor for 03 plane failure blocks lie within 0.9 and 2, have high potential failure. The analytical results have been also simulated these islands in three-dimensional space and have been also analyzed their potential failure on the fracture surfaces. The results obtained in this paper have important significance for planning and development of the Ha Long bay area, as World Natural Heritage, Quang Ninh province of Vietnam.

In Vitro Comparative Assessment of the Effect of Gutta-Fusion Obturation on the Push Out Bond Strength of Three Types of Sealers
...Show More Authors

Background: The bond strength of the root canal sealers to dentin is very important property for maintaining the integrity and the seal of root canal filling. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the push-out bond strength of root filled with total fill Bioceramic, AH Plus and Gutta-flow®2 sealers using GuttaFusion®obturation system versus single cone obturation technique. Materials and method: sixty of mandibular premolars teeth with straight roots were used in this study, these roots were instrumented using Reciproc system, instrumentation were done with copious irrigation of 3 mL 5.25% sodium hypochlorite solution (NaOCl) during all the steps of preparation, and smear layer will be removed with 1 ml of 17% EDTA kept in

Evaluation of the functional response of Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens) (Neuroptera:Chrysopidae) larvae feeding on cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae (L.)(Homoptera: Aphididae) in laboratory
...Show More Authors

This study evaluated the functional response of the larva of the predator Chrysoperla carnea by offering varying densities of cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae (L.) . Results showed conformity with type–II functional response, where the number of prey killed approaches asymptote hyperbolically as prey density increases (declining proportion of prey killed or the inverse density dependent) till it reached the stability stage determined by handling time and predator satiation. Also, the values of attack rate and handling time changed with age progress for both predator and prey. It has been observed an increase in the attack rate and reduction in handling time with the progress of the predator age when feeding on a particular nymphal in

The Effect of the Needham Constructivist Model on the Achievement of Third Year Biology Department Students in the Subject of Teaching Methods
...Show More Authors

The current research aims to know the effect of Needham's constructivist model on the achievement of third-year students in the Life Sciences Department in the teaching methods subject. To achieve the research objectives, the experimental method was followed for the experimental and control groups with dimensional measurement of the achievement variable of the teaching methods subject. The research sample included (62) students in the third year of the Life Sciences Department, distributed into two equal groups in the variables (self-assessment of learning methods - chronological age in years - intelligence level - previous information). To measure the level of students' achievement, an achievement test was constructed consisting of (40) te

Prediction of Raw Water Turbidity at the Intakes of the Water Treatment Plants along Tigris River in Baghdad, Iraq using Frequency Analysis
...Show More Authors

Different frequency distributions models were fitted to the monthly data of raw water Turbidity at water treatment plants (WTPs) along Tigris River in Baghdad. Eight water treatment plants in Baghdad were selected, with raw water turbidity data for the period (2008-2014). The frequency distribution models used in this study are the Normal, Log-normal, Weibull, Exponential and two parameters Gamma type. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to evaluate the goodness of fit.  The data for years (2008-2011) were used for building the models. The best fitted distributions were Log-Normal (LN) for Al-Karkh, Al-Wathbah, Al-Qadisiya, Al-Dawrah and, Al-Rashid WTPs. Gamma distribution fitted well for East Tigris and Al-Karamah

A Comparison Study for The Performance of Polyethersulfone Ultrafiltration Mixed Matrix Membranes in The Removal of Heavy Metal Ions from Aqueous Solutions
...Show More Authors

Polyethersulfone (PES) ultrafiltration membrane blending NaX zeolite crystals as a hydrophilic additive was examined for zinc (II) and lead ions Pb (II) removal from aqueous solutions. The effect of NaX zeolite content on the permeation flux and removal efficiency was studied. The results showed that adding zeolite to the polymer matrix enhanced the permeation flux. The permeation flux of all the zeolite/PES matrix membranes was higher than the pristine membrane. No significant improvement was observed in the removal of Zn (II) ions using all prepared membranes as the removal percentage did not raise above 29.2%. However, the removal percentage of Pb (II) ions was enhanced to 97% using a membrane containing 0.9%wt. zeolite. Also, it was
