Assessment of Some Mechanical Properties of CNC Laser Treated Ti13Zr13Nb Alloy
...Show More Authors

Background Alloys with the addition of zirconium and niobium eliminate the adverse effects of aluminum and vanadium on the nervous system, the possibility of metallosis and the initiation of diseases (including cancers or Alzheimer›s disease). In addition, they have better corrosion resistance, and a Young›s modulus value similar to longitudinal bone tissue. Therefore, only choosing appropriate materials does not guarantee proper functioning of the implants, the surfaces of the implants also have to be suitable to meet the requirements. The laser surface hardening process modifies the surface properties by imparting microstructural changes, whereas surface remelting induces changes in the surface topography, roughness, wettability and wear and corrosion resistance, influencing the biocompatibility of the surface. Such changes are brought in essentially because of the characteristic melting, evaporation and rapid solidification during laser surface remelting processes. Objectives This study was aimed at evaluating the electrochemical corrosion of commercial pure Titanium disks (CP Ti) and the Ti13Zr13Nb (Alloy) with a zigzag pattern of laser surface treatment. Materials and Methods a total of 40 discs of Cp Ti & 40 of Ti13Zr13Nb were fabricated. The surfaces of the test groups were treated with unique zigzag patterns using CNC Laser treatment on the texturing surfaces, the samples then are analyzed by using XRD, microhardness and electrochemical corrosion tests. Results The study revealed a proper increase in the surface hardness and corrosion resistance without crack formation or a dramatic change of the core substance of the CP Ti and Alloy disks. Conclusion The CNC laser is considered an effective and suitable method for surface texturing of CP Ti and Alloy for dental implantology.

Enhancing the mechanical properties of lightweight concrete using mono and hybrid fibers
...Show More Authors
Abstract
This investigation aims to study some properties of lightweight aggregate concrete reinforced by mono or hybrid fibers of different sizes and types. In this research, the considered lightweight aggregate was Light Expanded Clay Aggregate while the adopted fibers included hooked, straight, polypropylene, and glass. Eleven lightweight concrete mixes were considered, These mixes comprised of; one plain concrete mix (without fibers), two reinforced concrete mixtures of mono fiber (hooked or straight fibers), six reinforced concrete mixtures of double hybrid fibers, and two reinforced concrete mixtures of triple hybrid fibers. Hardened concrete properties were investigated in this study. G
... Show More

SiO2 particles effect on the mechanical properties of the starch/PVA blends
...Show More Authors

The present work studies the mechanical properties of SiO2 μPs, and NPs in St/PVA blends. The samples were prepared by casting method as PVA, St/PVA blends at different concentrations (30, 40, 50, and 60 %). DSC and TGA tests were carried out to the samples evolved. The result showed a single glass transition temperature (Tg) for all St /PVA blends that was attributed to the good miscibility of the blends involved. It was found that (Tg) decrease with starch ratio increase. It was seen that (PVA) of (Tg=105 oC); The glass transition temperature which was decrease with starch ratio that was attributed to glass transition relaxation process due to micro-Brownian motion of the main chain back bond. The endothermic peak at 200 oC was attrib

Assessment of systemic oxidative stress and antioxidants in Iraqi women with newly diagnosed and tamoxifen-treated breast cancer
...Show More Authors

Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most frequently observed malignancy in females worldwide. Today, tamoxifen (TAM) is considered as the highly effective therapy for treatment of breast tumors. Oxidative stress has implicated strongly in the pathophysiology of malignancies. This study aimed to investigate the changes in the levels of oxidants and antioxidants in patients with newly diagnosed and TAM-treated BC. Sixty newly diagnosed and 60 TAM-treated women with BC and 50 healthy volunteers were included in this study. Parameters including total oxidant capacity (TOC), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and catalase (CAT) activity were determined before and after treatment with TAM. The serum levels of TOC and oxidative stress index (OSI) were

Assessment of Thyroid Functions in Multiple Sclerosis Patients Treated with Disease Modifying Therapies: Thyroid Functions in Multiple Sclerosis
...Show More Authors

Background:

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease believed to be the result of autoimmune disorders of the central nervous system, characterised by inflammation, demyelination, and axonal transection, affecting primarily young adults. Disease modifying therapies have become widely used, and the rapid development of these drugs highlighted the need to update our knowledge on their short- and long-term safety profile.

Objective:

The study aim is to evaluate the impact of disease-modifying treatments on thyroid functions and thyroid autoantibodies with subsequent effects on the outcome of the disease.

Materials and Methods:

A retro prospective study

Machining Polylines and Ellipses using Three-Axis CNC Milling Machine
...Show More Authors

CNC machine is used to machine complex or simple shapes at higher speed with maximum accuracy and minimum error. In this paper a previously designed CNC control system is used to machine ellipses and polylines. The sample needs to be machined is drawn by using one of the drawing software like AUTOCAD® or 3D MAX and is saved in a well-known file format (DXF) then that file is fed to the CNC machine controller by the CNC operator then that part will be machined by the CNC machine. The CNC controller using developed algorithms that reads the DXF file feeds to the machine, extracts the shapes from the file and generates commands to move the CNC machine axes so that these shapes can be machined.

Preparation and Study of the Mechanical Properties of Unsaturated Polyester Resin/Graphene Nanocomposite
...Show More Authors

Nanocomposite was prepared using unsaturated polyester (UP) resin as a matrix and graphene nanoparticles as a reinforcement material in six percentage weights (0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 1 and 1.5%). Mechanical, calorimetric and thermal studies were performed on the (UP) resin/graphene nanocomposite. All tests showed a clear improvement of all mechanical properties examined (hardness, flexural strength (F.S), impact strength (I.S) and tensile strength (T.S)) with increasing graphene percentage. In addition, the temperature of glass transition and thermal conductivity of this composite increased with increasing graphene content.

Improvement of Mechanical and Rheological Properties of Natural Rubber for Anti-Vibration Applications
...Show More Authors

Abstract

This research aims to study and improve the passivating specifications of rubber resistant to vibration. In this paper, seven different rubber recipes were prepared based on mixtures of natural rubber(NR) as an essential part in addition to the synthetic rubber (IIR, BRcis, SBR, CR)with different rates. Mechanical tests such as tensile strength, hardness, friction, resistance to compression, fatigue and creep testing in addition to the rheological test were performed. Furthermore, scanning electron microscopy (SEM)test was used to examine the structure morphology of rubber. After studying and analyzing the results, we found that, recipe containing (BRcis) of 40% from th

Effect of industrial powder on mechanical properties of glass fiber reinforced epoxy composite
...Show More Authors

In the present study, composites were prepared by Hand lay-up molding and investigated. The composites constituents were epoxy resin as the matrix, 6% volume fractions of Glass Fibers (G.F) as reinforcement and 3%, 6% of industrial powder (Calcium Carbonate CaCO3, Potassium Carbonate K2CO3 and Sodium Carbonate Na2CO3) as filler. Density, water absorption, hardness test, flexural strength, shear stress measurements and tests were conducted to reveal their values for each type of composite material. The results showed that the non – reinforced epoxy have lower properties than composites material. Measured density results had show an incremental increase with volume fraction increase
