RAPD Fingerprinting and Genetic Diversity of Salmonella Spp. Isolated from Broiler and Layer Flocks in Karbala, Iraq

Salmonellosis in poultry is one of the most significant bacterial infections causing mortality, reduced production, and serious economic losses. This study aimed to study the molecular diversity among Salmonella isolates and investigate the epidemiological spread of these bacteria in broiler and layer chicken flocks in five different farms in Karbala, Iraq, using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) polymerase chain reaction (PCR). In total, 217 cloac a swabs were collected from the farms, out of which 129 and 88 swabs were taken from broiler and layer chickens. The samples were screened by PCR for S. enterica subsp. enterica using primers specific for the invA gene. Afterward, RAPD-PCR with uniplex or multiplex octamer primers was applied to genotype the isolates. The incidence rate of Salmonella infections in broilers and layers was estimated to be 27.9% and 12.5%. The uniplex primers P2 and P3, along with the multiplex primers yielded discriminatory patterns. Moreover, the RAPD typing showed a diverse range of banding patterns of Salmonella spp. Dendrograms created through GelJ software revealed various Salmonella genotypes in broilers and layers. The RAPD-PCR could be used as an accurate and fast tool to identify genetic relatedness among Salmonella spp. The obtained results would assist researchers in epidemiological studies and controlling salmonellosis in poultry fields.

Radium and Uranium Concentration in Some Plants in Iraq

In this study, the concentration of radium and uranium in the samples radish leaves, radish stalk, onion leaves, onion stalk and garlic fruits were grown in arable soil in the Botanical Garden in the College of Science for women, and garlic in special plates, the soil was taken from the above at the beginning of November 2016 was studied by using CR-39 nuclear track detectors. The radium and uranium concentration varied from 0.023 to 0.052 and from 23.13 to 52.68 Bq/kg with an average value of 0.037 and 37.58 Bq/kg respectively.  The aim of this study was to provide an overall assessment to the efficiency of the Iraq stocks exchanges (ISE) through specifying well –known models .First, Fama's efficient market hypothesis as a contrary concept to the random walk hypothesis, was performed and it has been found that ISE follows the random process, so the price of the shares can't be predicated on the basis of past information. Second,we use a multifactor model, which so named multiple regression, to explore the link between ISE  and the main economic indicators. our empirical analysis finds that every weak associations exists between major ISE measures and main economic indicators.

Abstract<p>Thirteen morphometric characters of catfish<italic>Silurus triostegus</italic>were studied from three localities on the Tigris and Shatt al-Arab rivers, Iraq. Monthly samples revealed no significant differences between genders. Positive allometric growths for all morphometric characters studied were observed. This study gives information to fishery biologists about morphometric characters of<italic>S. triostegus</italic>from the Tigris and Shatt al-Arab rivers to assist in planning of conservation strategies for this fish species.</p>
