USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK TECHNIQUE FOR THE ESTIMATION OF CD CONCENTRATION IN CONTAMINATED SOILS

The aim of this paper is to design artificial neural network as an alternative accurate tool to estimate concentration of Cadmium in contaminated soils for any depth and time. First, fifty soil samples were harvested from a phytoremediated contaminated site located in Qanat Aljaeesh in Baghdad city in Iraq. Second, a series of measurements were performed on the soil samples. The inputs are the soil depth, the time, and the soil parameters but the output is the concentration of Cu in the soil for depth x and time t. Third, design an ANN and its performance was evaluated using a test data set and then applied to estimate the concentration of Cadmium. The performance of the ANN technique was compared with the traditional laboratory inspecting

The removal of Zinc, Chromium and Nickel from industrial waste water using Corn cobs

The aim of this study was to use low cost adsorbents, which consist of corn cobs as plant wastes adsorbents in treatment of Industrial waste water by fixed bed column technique and study the effect of two variables (pH value and contact time). The sample of plant waste (Corn cobs) was tested to determine its activity which gives the best performance in heavy metals removal and other pollutants (TSS, TDS and COD). Adsorption tests showed the corn cobs adsorbents had significant heavy metal removal efficiency. The best removal efficiency 95.05% of Cr was occurred at pH 5.4 and 4.18hr. Higher removal efficiency 99.90% of Ni was occurred at pH 6.5 and 2.38hr. While, lower removal efficiency 91.35% for Zn obtained at pH 6.5 and 0.15hr. Remova

The Removal of Zinc, Chromium and Nickel from Industerial Waste-Water Using Banana Peels

The current study was designed for using banana peels to remove zinc, chromium and nickel from industrial waste-water. Three forms of these peels (fresh, dried small pieces and powder) were tested under some environmental factors such as pH, temperature and contact time. Current data show that banana peels are capable of removing zinc, chromium and nickel ions at significant capacity. Furthermore, the powder of banana peels had highest capability in removing all zinc, chromium and nickel ions followed by fresh peels whilst dried peels had the lowest bioremoving capacity again for all metals under test. The highest capacity was for chromium then nickel and finally zinc. All these data were significantly (LSD peel forms = 2.761 mg/l, LSD m

The removal of Zinc, Chromium and Nickel from industrial waste water using Rice husk

The aim of this study was to use low cost adsorbents, which consists of plant wastes in treatment of Industrial waste water by fixed bed column technique and study the effect of to two variables (pH value and contact time) on adsorption process. The sample of plant waste (Rice husk) was tested to determine its activity which gives the best performance in heavy metals removal and other pollutants (TSS, TDS and COD). Adsorption tests showed all tested plant adsorbents had significant heavy metal removal efficiency. The best removal efficiency 96.56% of Cr was occurred at pH 6.5 and 5hrs. Higher removal efficiency 99.02% of Ni was occurred at pH 6.5 and 0.15hr. While, lower removal efficiency 94% for Zn obtained at pH 5 and 2.83hrs. Removal

Environmental Assessment of Trace Elements Concentration and Distribution in Surface Soils at North Baiji City, Iraq

To assess the environmental pollution of the soil at north Baiji City, the concentration of As, Se, Cr, Co, Cu, Cd, Sb, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, V, U, Sr, Ba, Ag, Rb, Li, Sn, Bi, Tl and Zn were determined in 18 sites. Results showed that the range concentrations of metal in mg/kg were Mo (0.84-2.15), Cu (17.62-78.77), Pb (9.89-19.19), Zn (39.5-374.7), Ag (0.064-0.14), Ni (90.7-210), Co (12.8-26.6), Mn (407-863), As (4-7.1), Cd (0.18-0.37), Sb (0.38-0.77), Bi (0.06-0.17), V (74-281), Cr (128-287), Li (15.3-24.4), Tl (0.14-0.24), Sn (0.6-1.7), Rb (28-51.2), U (1.2-1.5), Se (0.3-0.6), Ba (173-310), Sr (218-1270). Based on enrichment factor (EF) of trace elements, Mo, Cu, Pb, Mn, Bi, U, V, Li, Sn, Rb, Ba and Tl were showed deficiency to minimal enric

Bioremediation of Nickel and Lead contaminated soil by Vica faba L. plant and AM fungi Glomus mosseae

This study is conducted to determine the activity of plant Vica faba and two isolated from arbuscular mycorrhizae fungi (A,B) in bioremediation of soil pollution by Nickel and Lead elements in north and south of Baghdad city. The results showed that the average of soil pollution by Nickel and Lead elements in north of Baghdad was less than the average of soil pollution in the south of Baghdad which recorded 29.0,9.0PPm and 42.0, 25.0PPm respectively. The results show that the isolate A from the polluted soil is more active from isolate B which isolate from unpolluted soil for bioremediation. Vica faba recorded more in accumulate the Lead element in shoot system which was 19.65PPm and in root system was 27.2PPm and for Nickel element 24.65

Removal of Vanadium and Nickel Ions from Iraqi Atmospheric Residue by Using Solvent Extraction Method

Iraqi crude Atmospheric residual fraction supplied from al-Dura refinery was treated to remove metals contaminants by solvent extraction method, with various hydrocarbon solvents and concentrations. The extraction method using three different type solvent (n-hexane, n-heptane, and light naphtha) were found to be effective for removal of oil-soluble metals from heavy atmospheric residual fraction. Different solvents with using three different hydrocarbon solvents (n-hexane, n-heptane, and light naphtha) .different variables were studied solvent/oil ratios (4/1, 8/1, 10/1, 12/1, and 15/1), different intervals of perceptual (15, 30-60, 90 and 120 min) and different temperature (30, 45, 60 and 90 °C) were used. Tracing and Analysis of Manganese, Nickel, Cadmium ,Copper, zinc , Lead And Aluminum Concentration and PH Values In Iraqi Chewing Gums

Evaluation of trace elements in Iraqi chewing gums are unavailable, particularly pollution of toxic elements, materials which change the values of PH in the Oral. Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) were successfully employed to determine the concentration of 7 trace elements (essentially toxic and nonessential) and the PH, in thirteen different brands of chewing gum generally consumed in Iraq. Combined wet and dry digestion procedures were applied. Two types of heated graphite tubes were used, coated and uncoated tubes treated with tungsten solution. Result showed that Cu, Al and Zn were at very high levels in almost all brands whereas Mn was found to be high in brands A and O only.
