The thyroid gland is a vital part of the overall endocrine system, which is regulated some of body function as oxygen use, basal metabolic rate, growth, cellular metabolism and development This study shed light on a number of extracts that have been shown to have beneficial effects on the thyroid and its function, as well as the various factors linked to thyroid dysfunction. The experiment was conducted to determine the effect of a mixture of two extracts of "Fucus vesiculosus (150 mg/ kg) with Coleus forskohlii (1000 mg/ kg) and Rosmarinus officinalis (220 mg/ kg) with Camellia sinensis (1.25 mg/ kg)" on thyroid hormones as well as lipids profile and tested the effectiveness of two drugs one of them stimulates the hormones of the thyroid (Levothyroxine) and the other is an inhibitor (Carbimazole). Nine female albino rats, aged 8-10 weeks and weighing 60-120g, and nine albino female mice, aged 8-10 weeks and weighing 23-25 g, were divided into 3 groups, each with 3 animals, and were given three different doses orally, with the exception of the control group, which received only normal saline. The result showed that the combination of F. vesiculosus with C. forskohlii was better than Levothyroxine against hypothyroidism, while the combination of R. officinalis with C. sinensis was better than Carbimazole against hyperthyroidism. The results of this study found that the extracts may have the ability to regulate hormone levels of thyroid gland in humans.
This study included isolation of some active materials from Curcuma longa such as tannins, saponins and volatile oils with percentage of 59%, 31%, and 9% respectively. Also the study included the determination of minerals in Curcuma longa such as " Na, Ca and K" using Flame photometer. In this paper, an experimental study of the thermal performance for hybrid solar air conditioning system was carried out, to investigate system suitability for the hot climate in Iraq. The system consists of vapor compression unit combined with evacuated tube solar collector and liquid storage tank. A three-way valve was installed after the compressor to control the direction flow of the refrigerant, either to the storage tank or directly to the condenser. This work presents plants recognition system with rotation invariant based on plant leaf. Wavelet energy features are extracted for sub-images (blocks) beside three of leaf shape features: [area, perimeter, circularity ratio]. (8) species of leaves are used in different size and color, (15) samples for each leaf are used. Leaves images are rotated at angles: 90˚, 180˚, 270˚(counterclockwise,clockwise). Euclidean distance is used, the recognition rate was 98.2% with/without rotation.
this study aimed to study the effect of Cordia myxa extract on the growth and activities of the following types of bacteria : Escherichia coli , Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus Spp., Klebsiella pneumoniae , Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes , Bacillus subtilus, and the yeast Candida albicans .the results showed an inhibitory effect of the methanol extract on both the growth and activity of the tested microbes .this was reflected by the minimum inhibitory concentration ( MIC ) of different type of bacteria and the yeast.
The main objective of this study is to understand the work of the pile caps made of lightweight aerated foam concrete and study the many factors affecting the ability and the capacity of the shear. The study was done by analyzing previous practical and theoretical experiences on the reinforced concrete pile caps. The previous practical results indicated that all specimens failed by shear diagonal compression or tension modes except one specimen that failed flexural-shear mode. Based on test specimens' practical results and behavior, some theoretical methods for estimating the ultimate strength of reinforced concrete pile caps have been recommended, some of which evolved into the design documents available on the subject.
