Aim of this study was to identify and characterize the entomopathogenic nematode Metarhabditis rainai, which was isolated from soil samples carried out from Alrashdya at (33˚25ˈ13.4̎ N 44˚21ˈ45.3̎ E) Baghdad- Iraq and was illustrated by both morphological and molecular aspects. All specimens of M. rainai were cultured, identified and described using some morphometric criteria based on standard available key. Selected specimens (Zah, IQ2 OR960470 isolate) of this species were characterized by the body length of male was ranged from (377.49 – 563.89 μm), the body length of female was (857.44 – 1111.7 μm) and the body length of juvenile was (419.28 – 757 μm). Using partial 18S rRNA gene sequences, molecular characterization was performed on selected specimens of this species. The 18S-rRNA sequence of the Zah, IQ2 OR960470 isolate showed a sequence homology ranging from (88.50% to 100%) with the 18S rRNA sequence of M. rainai found in the NCBI database. The phylogenetic tree has been created to separate M. rainai species from closely related genera and species. Metarhabditis rainai Zah, IQ2 OR960470 isolate marks the first record of M. rainai in Iraq.
The genus Larra Fabricius, 1793 (Hymenoptera: Crabronidae) is recorded for the first time from Vietnam. Three species and two subspecies belonging to this genus as follows: L. amplipennis (F. Smith, 1873); L. carbonaria (F. Smith, 1858); L. fenchihuensis Tsuneki, 1967; L. polita polita (F. Smith, 1858) and L. polita luzonensis Rohwer, 1919 are presented. Keys to both sexes of the three species and two subspecies reported here are provided.
The present study reports Morchella conica Pers.1818, which belongs to the family, Morchellaceae as a new record of Iraqi macromycota based on the morphological and molecular methods. During their short and often sporadic fruiting season, this fungal species was found in mixed forest unburned areas in Branan ranges (Suliamaniya Province, Northeast Iraq). Currently, M. conica is the second Morchella species reported from Iraq. The current study aimed to introduce this new record, which is poorly studied in the Middle East. M. conica is morphologically described and phylogenetically confirmed. The relationship between this species and other species within the genus was studied using the nrDNA ITS sequences from different species and divers

The classification of Salix at the generic and infra-generic levels is still outstanding. We have agreed to list the Egyptian species of this genus. We collected them during field trips to most Egyptian habitats; fresh and herbarium specimens were subjected to taxonomic revision based on morphological characters; scanning electron microscope (SEM) for pollen grains; isozyme analysis using esterase and peroxidase enzymes and genetic diversity using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD). We recorded that both sexes of S.
Cyprinidae species are the most abundant and widely distributed fish species in the inland waters of Iraq. Cyprinids are complex species, and it is difficult to identify them on the basis of morphology. Thus, the morphological characteristics must be achieved and confirmed by molecular analysis. Twenty specimens of Cyprinion kais Heckel, 1843 (Piscies, Cypriniformes, Cyprinidae) were collected from two localities at Tigris River in the middle of Iraq: five specimens from Al-Tharthar Lake, Saladin Province, and 15 specimens from Al- Zubaydiyah sub-district, Wasit Province. The DNA sequences of C. kais were done using the mitochondrial DNA cytochrome b (cytb) gene. After analysis, the sequences were compared with sequences of ot

The current study reports the first record of Ammatomus rufonodis (Radoszkowski, 1877) for insect fauna of Iraq. Although this species shows morphological similarity to A. mesostenus (Handlirsch, 1888), it can be distinguished by the clear large diameter of the gastral punctures, which are similar in size to those on the mesopleuron. Thorough synonyms, diagnostic features, morphological descriptions, and distribution notes are given.
