Vibriosis-Associated Acute Kidney Injury: Incidence and Outcome
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Purpose: Vibriosis, caused by Vibrio cholerae, is an intestinal infection characterized by profuse watery diarrhea, leading to significant fluid loss. This study aimed to assess the clinical features, outcomes, and severity of cholera among hospitalized patients and its association with acute kidney injury (AKI). Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted on 70 patients with confirmed V. cholerae infection at Baghdad Teaching Hospital, Medical City, during the cholera outbreak in Iraq (June–October 2022). Patients were recruited from the emergency department and medical quarantine ward. Diagnosis was based on clinical features and confirmed by stool culture using Thiosulfate-Citrate-Bile Salts-Sucrose (TCBS) agar, according to WHO criteria. Results: AKI was identified in 83% of patients. While most were managed conservatively, 13% required hemodialysis. The V. cholerae Ogawa serotype was isolated in 55.7% of cases. Patients with AKI were significantly older than those without. Abnormal skin turgor was noted in 82.8% of AKI cases and was significantly associated with kidney injury. Blood pressure did not differ significantly between groups. Severe dehydration was more prevalent among AKI patients. Conclusion: AKI is a common complication of cholera and may occur even in the absence of hypovolemic shock or severe dehydration. A notable proportion required renal replacement therapy, underscoring the need for early recognition and management of renal involvement in cholera.</p>

Incidence of Injuries to Major Blood Vessels in the Lower Limb
...Show More Authors

Background: Blood vessels injury is one of the most
common causes of medical emergencies that admitted to
hospitals and at the same time it regarded as one of the
most important causes of death. They may represent less
than 15% of all injuries; they deserve special attention
because of their severe complications.
Objective: The aim of the present study is to assess
anatomically the injures of major arteries and veins in the
lower limb with their management.
Methods: The present study extended from April 2006 to
February 2007, in which 65 patients with lower limb
vascular injury were examined in Emergency Department
and Forensic Medicine Department of Tikrit Teaching
Hospital in Salah-Aldin governora

Prediction of maternal diabetes and adverse neonatal outcome in normotensive pregnancy using serum uric acid
...Show More Authors

Diabetes mellitus, with adverse neonatal events are challenging issues to all obstetricians and pediatricians, where uric acid could play a vital role. We aimed to assess the relationship and prognostic benefits of serum uric acid measured at about 20 weeks’ gestation in normotensive pregnancy, with subsequent maternal diabetes, and neonatal complications. All singleton normotensive pregnant women with normal blood glucose, serum creatinine, and weight before pregnancy, whom attended Medical City Hospital, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Baghdad, were involved and regarded as the case group, on the condition that their serum uric acid measured at 20 weeks’ gestation > 3 mg/dl, but if ≤ 3 mg/dl, they would be regi

Modeling and analysis of an SI1I2R epidemic model with nonlinear incidence and general recovery functions of I1
...Show More Authors

In this paper, we established a mathematical model of an SI1I2R epidemic disease with saturated incidence and general recovery functions of the first disease I1. Considering the basic reproduction number, we obtained conditions for both disease-free and co-existing cases. The equilibrium points local stability is verified by using the Routh-Hurwitz criterion, while for the global stability, we used a suitable Lyapunov function to analyze the endemic spread of the positive equilibrium point. Moreover, we carried out the local bifurcation around both equilibrium points (disease-free and co-existing), where we obtained that the disease-free equilibrium point undergoes a transcritical bifurcation. We conduct numerical simulations that suppo

Traumatic Symptoms and Psychological Reactions Associated with Earthquakes in Iraq
...Show More Authors

The study aims to identify the Traumatic Symptoms (physiological, emotional, and cognitive) of earthquakes among the targeted sample; it also aims to identify the significant differences between psychological, emotional, and cognitive traumatic symptoms of earthquakes according to the gender and age of participants. The study additionally seeks to identify thepsychological positive-negative reactions associated with earthquakes according to gender and age of the participants. To measure the traumatic symptoms of earthquakes, a 4-point Likert scale questionnaire with (20) items (questions) accompanied with a 4-point Likert scale questionnaire with (18) items (questions) were used to measure the Psychological positive-n

THE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH MEDIA ETHICS
...Show More Authors

It must be emphasized that media is amongst human studies fusing older and more recent sciences together, and that its disclosures are the physics of the new communication. Michio Kaku, a theoretical physicist, in his book “ Visions”, confirms this fact when he says :” As a research physicist, I believe that physicists have been particularly successful at predicting the broad outlines of the future .Professionally, I work in one of the most fundamental areas of physics, the quest to complete Einstein's dream of a "theory of everything." As a result, I am constantly reminded of the ways in which quantum physics touches many of the key discoveries that shaped the twentieth century. “ He then got to the fact that the physical disclo
