In this study it was found that a significant decrease in the level of leptin in young
Iraqi smokers (16+ 0.7ng/mL) compared to non smokers(24.2+ 4.5ng/mL) while, B2
microglobulin and CRPwas significantly increased in the smokers (1.2 + 0.3μg/mL),
(4.07+ 0.02mg/L) respectively, compared to non smokers (0.6 + 0.9μg/mL) ,( 2.88+
0.002mg/L) respectively, the presented data indicates the effect of smoking on these
immunological markers.

Schizophrenia (SZ) is severe mental disorder and characterized by fundamental disturbances in thinking, perception and emotions. Immune deregulation has been postulated to be one of the mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. This study hypothesized that interleukins would have a link with schizophrenia patients. The serum IL-2 and IL-10 levels were examined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in schizophrenia patients (n=60) and healthy controls (n = 30). The results showed that serum IL-2 and IL-10 levels were significantly different among schizophrenia patients. The synthesis and properties of two new series of compounds having 1,3-Oxazepineand 1,3-thiazole rings connected through azo linkage are reported. These compounds weresynthesized by the reaction of phthalic anhydride with Schiff bases.
