Application of Artificial Neural Network and GeographicalInformation System Models to Predict and Evaluate the Quality ofDiyala River Water, Iraq
...Show More Authors

This research discusses application Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Geographical InformationSystem (GIS) models on water quality of Diyala River using Water Quality Index (WQI). Fourteen water parameterswere used for estimating WQI: pH, Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen, Orthophosphate, Nitrate, Calcium, Magnesium,Total Hardness, Sodium, Sulphate, Chloride, Total Dissolved Solids, Electrical Conductivity and Total Alkalinity. These parameters were provided from the Water Resources Ministryfrom seven stations along the river for the period2011 to 2016. The results of WQI analysis revealed that Diyala River is good to poor at the north of Diyala provincewhile it is poor to very polluted at the south of Baghdad City. The selected parameters were subjected to Kruskal-Wallis test for detecting factors contributing to the degradation of water quality and for eliminating independentvariables that exhibit the highest contribution in p-value. The analysis of results revealed that ANN model was goodin predicting the WQI. The confusion matrix for Artificial Neural Model (NNM) gave almost 96% for training, 85.7%for testing and 100% for holdout. In relation to GIS, six color maps of the river have been constructed to give clearimages of the water quality along the river (PDF) Application of Artificial Neural Network and Geographical Information System Models to Predict and Evaluate the Quality of Diyala River Water, Iraq. Detection of Antibiotics in Drinking Water Treatment Plants in Baghdad City, Iraq
...Show More Authors

Persistence of antibiotics in the aquatic environment has raised concerns regarding their potential influence on potable water quality and human health. This study analyzes the presence of antibiotics in potable water from two treatment plants in Baghdad City. The collected samples were separated using a solid-phase extraction method with hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) cartridge before being analyzed. The detected antibiotics in the raw and finished drinking water were analyzed and assessed using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), with fluorometric detector and UV detector. The results confirmed that different antibiotics including fluoroquinolones andB-lactams were detected in the raw an

Heat Production Rate and Radiation Hazard Indices from Radioactive Elements in Different Types of Natural Water in Nineveh Governorate, Iraq.
...Show More Authors

The current study sheds light on the measurement and estimation of the radioactivity of radionuclides (238U, 226Ra, 232Th, and 40k) in natural waters of different regions of Nineveh Governorate in Iraq.15 samples were collected from different sources of natural waters, where gamma-ray spectroscopy was used using NaI)TI) sodium iodide detector to determine the concentration of radioactivity in the samples. According to the results, the radioactivity concentration in the tested water sample were ranged from 0.36 ± 0.04-1.57 ± 0.09with an average value of 0.69 ± 0.06 Bq/l for 238U, and 2.9 ± 0.02-0.88 ± 0.03 with an average value of 0.65 ± 0.03 Bq/l for 226Ra Bq/l

Flood Management of Diyala River
...Show More Authors

Diyala Governorate was recently exposed to high flood waves discharged from Hemrin Dam. Since the dam was at its full capacity during the flood period, these waves were discharged to the Diyala River. Because of the reduction in Diyala River capacity to 750m3/s, the cities and villages on both sides of the river banks were inundated. Thus, the study's objective is to design a flood escape out of the Diyala River, to discharge the flood wave through it. The flood escape simulation was done by using HEC- RAS software. Two hundred twenty-three cross sections for the escape and 30 cross-sections of the Diyala River were used as geometric data. Depending on the geological formation that the escape passed t

Models of Phonological Loanword Adaptation
...Show More Authors

Borrowing in linguistics refers to the process whereby a group of speakers incorporates certain foreign linguistic components into their home language via a process known as linguistic borrowing. The process by which these foreign linguistic elements, known as loanwords, go through phonological, morphological, or semantic changes in order for them to fit the grammar of the recipient language is referred to as loanword adaptation. Loanwords go through these changes in order for them to become compatible with the grammar of the recipient language. One of the most divisive topics in loanword phonology is whether adaptations occur at the phonemic or phonetic levels, and current literature distinguishes three primary viewpoints: nativiza

Background/Objectives: The purpose of current research aims to a modified image representation framework for Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) through gray scale input image, Zernike Moments (ZMs) properties, Local Binary Pattern (LBP), Y Color Space, Slantlet Transform (SLT), and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). Methods/Statistical analysis: This study surveyed and analysed three standard datasets WANG V1.0, WANG V2.0, and Caltech 101. The features an image of objects in this sets that belong to 101 classes-with approximately 40-800 images for every category. The suggested infrastructure within the study seeks to present a description and operationalization of the CBIR system through automated attribute extraction system premised on CN
