Local and Global Granular Mechanical Characteristics of Grain–Structure Interactions
...Show More Authors

The focus of this work is on systematically understanding the effects of packing density of the sand grains on both the internal and bulk mechanical properties for strip footing interacting with granular soil. The studies are based on particle image velocimetry (PIV) method, coupled with a high resolution imaging camera. This provides valuable new insights on the evolution of slip planes at grain-scale under different fractions of the ultimate load. Furthermore, the PIV based results are compared with finite element method simulations in which the experimentally characterised parameters and constitutive behaviour are fed as an input, and a good level of agreements are obtained. The reported results would serve to the practicing engineers, r

Effect of GA3, Thiamine in Some Yield Component and Active Substance on Cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.)
...Show More Authors

The experiment was conducted at field of garden of Department of Biology, Collage
of Education (Ibn-Al-Haitham) University of Baghdad during winter season of 2009-2010.
The aim of present study is the effect of growth regulator Gibberellins by using two
concentrations (100, 200) ppm and also Thiamine in two concentrations (10, 50) ppm, on the
some yield component characters and active component of volatile oil Cumin (Cuminum
cyminum L.).
The results showed that GA3 in (100) ppm increased the yield component, protein
concentration and increased in Cuminaldehyde, Perillaldehyde and Thyoml concentration.
The results showed that the best concentration was (50) ppm of Thiamine showed an
increasing concentratio

Some properties of Reactive Powder Concrete Contain Recycled Glass Powder
...Show More Authors

Every year, millions of tons of waste glass are created across the globe. It is disposed of in landfills, which is unsustainable since it does not disintegrate into the environment. This study aims to produce reactive powder concrete by using recycled glass powder and determine the influence on the mechanical properties. This study investigated the effect of partial replacement of cement with recycled glass powder at two percentages (0, 20) % by weight of cement on some mechanical properties (Fresh density, Splitting tensile strength, Impact Strength, and voids%) of reactive powder concrete containing 1 % micro steel (MSRPC). Furthermore, using steam curing for (5 hours) at 90 degrees celsius after hardening the sample directly, RPC was

Effect of Planting Dates and GA3 Concentrations On Growth and Active Material of Chamomilla (Matricaria Chamomilla L.) Plants.
...Show More Authors

The Experiment was conducted during the fall of 2002-2003 at the botanical gardenor of biology Department, Ibn- Al Hiatham Education college Baghdad University to study the effect of two planting dates (23/10 and 6/ll 2002) with different concentrations of GA3 (100 and 200 ppm) on growth characters and the active material of two cultivars (Local and German) of chamomilla (Matricaria chamomilla L.) plants. Randomized complete Block Design (R.C.B.D.) was used with three replications . Each one of the experiment units 1x1m .The parameters study were plant height, no shoots, no inflorescence branches and nodes , leaf area and leaf area index and violate oil percentage. The result showed that planting date. At 23/10 give a significant

Effect of citric and malic acids concentration on some growth and yield parameters of Vicia faba L. plant.
...Show More Authors

An experiment was conducted in the plastic house of the Botanical Garden in the Department of Biology, College of Education for Pure Sciences (Ibn Al-Haitham), University of Baghdad during one growth season. The experiment included the study of the effect of three concentrations of citric acid (0, 75, 150) mg. L-1 and four concentrations of malic acid (0, 50, 100, 150) mg. L-1 and their interaction in some of the growth and yield parameters of the broad bean plant, plant height, dry weight, number of leaves, total chlorophyll content, the number of flowers and pods and the weight of the pod. The experiment was carried out in full random design (4× 3) and with three duplicates, the results showed a significant effect of citric and malic aci

Physiochemical and Spectral Characterization For a Biological Active, Solanidine&Solasodine Partial Purification Compounds From (Solanum nigrum L)
...Show More Authors

This study includes a physiochemical and a spectrocpical characterization to some alkaloid compounds in the (ANAB AL- THEAB) plant (Solanum nigrun L.). It’s the most important medicinal herb belonging to the family (Solanaceae). Acid  hydrolysis was performed by using limited conc. of  Hcl and H2SO4, to obtain the aglycon  part of previously separated steroidal componants as (A, B and C).   The characterization of the(A,B and C) compounds indicates that they varied between them as the separated steroidal like-alkaloids, carried by using melting  point (m.p.), thin layer chromatography (TLC), Infra -Red  spectroscopy (IR) and Ultra violet-Visible  spectroscopy (UV - Visible).High perfor

The effect of local Lactobacillus gasseri filtrate against Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection in mice was studied . 0.25 ml of concentrated filtrate Lactobacillus gasseri was injected in intraperitoneally ( I.P.) 5 days before challenge with 0.2 ml  viable  P. aeruginosa ( 10 8  cell/ ml).       Animals were sacrificed after 12 h. from challenge by cutting the femoral artery . To follow bacterial growth in the peritoneal cavity , its contents were washed out with 5 ml of  PBS .The fluid was diluted, 0.1 ml from each dilution and was spread on culture media. The number of colonies in 5 ml of harvested fluid was expressed as Log 10 CFU ,and the percentage of Macrophage in t

The Protective Effect of Honey Against Amikacin- induced Nephrotoxicity in Rats
...Show More Authors

Drug –induced nephrotoxicity is an important cause of renal failure. Aminoglycoside antibiotics, such as amikacin, which causes ototoxicity and nephrtotoxicity as a main side effects, this is focused on the use of natural materials as antioxidants against the toxic oxidative action that exert a cell damaging effect. The most important one of these materials is the honey. The aim of this work is to evaluate the antioxidant effects of honey against amikacin – induced nephrotoxicity.18 albino rats divided into 3 groups (6 rats per each group), group 1 received I.P daily dose of normal saline (control), group 2 received (35  mg/kg/day) I.P dose of amikacin ,and group 3 received (35mg/kg/day) of amikacin I.P dose in combina
