Viral Load of HBV and HCV Correlation to Torque Teno Virus (TTV) Co-Infection in Iraqi Patients
...Show More Authors
Abstract
<title>Background:

While hepatitis viruses A–E are established, emerging evidence points to additional, novel viral hepatitis agents. The torqueteno virus (TTV) has garnered interest due to its prevalence among patients with hepatitis, suggesting potential hepatotropism.

Aim:

This study was conducted to detect TTV antigens in individuals infected with chronic hepatitis B (HBV) and/or C (HCV) using molecular diagnostics and to explore any associations between TTV presence and demographic characteristics of the cohort.

Materials and Methods:

The current study was conducted from the period of September 2022 to April 2023, the investigation involved Iraqi patients aged between 32 and 83 years and diagnosed with HBV and HCV in National Iraqi Central Laboratories, Virology Section. We employed real-time PCR to quantify HBV and HCV viral loads and conventional PCR for TTV DNA detection.

Results:

TTV DNA was detected in 17 of the 60 patients (28.3%) with chronic HBV and HCV infections. Viral load distribution was found to be similar for both HBV and HCV. An age-related increase in viral load was noted, suggesting a trend where older individuals exhibited higher concentrations. However, no significant variation was observed that could link alterations in HBV and HCV viral loads to TTV status directly. Statistical analysis indicated a positive correlation between age and the likelihood of presenting with the virus, aligning with observed trends in other age-associated chronic conditions, such as Type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease.

Conclusion:

The presence of TTV in patients with enduring HBV or HCV infection could implicate the virus as a contributing factor to hepatitis pathology. Studies such as this are pivotal for elucidating the age-associated risk profiles for various pathologies and shaping corresponding public health policies and preventative approaches.

ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF CONOCARPUS ERECTUS LEAVES EXTRACTS ON SOME MICROORGANISMS ISOLATED FROM PATIENTS WITH BURN INFECTION
...Show More Authors

Medicinal plants are a source for a wide variety of natural active compounds and are used for the treatment of diseases throughout the world. Conocarpus erectus L. widely planted all over Iraq and has different secondary metabolites, which has been used in treatment of anemia, cancer, fever and diarrhea. The present study aims to estimate the antibacterial activity of Conocarpus erectus leaves extracts on some microorganisms collected from patients with burn infection. The study began with the collection of Conocarpus erectus leaves in June 2018 from the trees in university of Baghdad. Maceration method was used to prepare aqueous extract, while Soxhelt apparatus was used to prepare methanolic extract. The results of phytochemical test show

The Role of Serum Chitinase-3-Like 1 Protein (YKL-40) Level and its Correlation with Proinflammatory Cytokine in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis
...Show More Authors

Chitinase-3-like 1 protein (YKL-40) is a glycoprotein primarily produced in the arthritic joint and plays a crucial role in inflammatory processes. The aim of the study is to establish the role of YKL-40 as a biomarker for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) compared to proinflammatory biomarkers and disease activity. The study included 58 patients and 18 control. Diseases activity score (DAS-28) and clinical disease activity index (CDAI) were measured. Serum level of YKL-40, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1B (IL-1β), erythrocyte sedimentation (ESR), rheumatoid factor (RF), C-reactive protein (CRP), and anti-citrullinated protein antibody (ACPA) were assessed. The results showed that the median serum YKL-40 level which was 5.42

Evaluating the Behavior of Ring Footing on Two-Layered Soil Subjected to Inclined Load
...Show More Authors

Evaluating the behavior of a ring foundation resting on multi-layered soil is one of the important issues facing civil engineers. Many researchers have studied the behavior of ring foundation rests on multi-layered soil with vertical loads acting on the foundation. In real life ring foundation can be subjected to both vertical and horizontal loads at the same time due to wind or the presence of soil. In this research, the behavior of ring footing subjected to inclined load has been studied using PLAXIS software. Furthermore, the effect of multi-layered soil has been simulated in the model. The results showed that both vertical and horizontal stresses are mainly affected when the inclination angle of the load exceeded 45 degrees with a reduc

Model-Based Design of Piezoelectric Patches used to Repair Damaged Beams under Static Load
...Show More Authors

Static loads exposing to mechanical components can cause cracks, which are lead to form stress concentration regions causing the failure of structure. Generally, from 80% to 90% of structure failure is due to initiation of the cracks. Therefore, it is necessary to repair the crack and reduce its effect on the structure where the effect of the crack is modelled as an additional flexibility to the structure. In the last few years, piezoelectric materials have been considered as one of the most favourable repairing techniques. The piezoelectric material converts the applied voltage on it to a bending moment to counter the bending moment caused by the external load on the beam at the crack location. In this study, the design of the piez

Bearing capacity of square footing on geogrid reinforced loose sand to resist eccentric load
...Show More Authors

This research presents and discuss the results of experimental investigation carried out on geogrids model to study the behavior of geogrid in the loose sandy soil. The effect of location eccentricity, depth of first layer of reinforcement, vertical spacing, number and type of reinforcement layers have been investigated. The results indicated that the percentage of bearing improvement a bout (22 %) at number of reinforced layers N=1 and about (47.5%) at number of reinforced layers N=2 for different Eccentricity values when depth ratio and vertical spacing between layers are (0.5B and 0.75B) respectively

Correlation between Paris function parameters to crack velocity for Alumina ceramics
...Show More Authors

The question about the existence of correlation between the parameters A and m of the Paris function is re-examined theoretically for brittle material such as alumina ceramic (Al2O3) with different grain size. Investigation about existence of the exponential function which fit a good approximation to the majority of experimental data of crack velocity versus stress intensity factor diagram. The rate theory of crack growth was applied for data of alumina ceramics samples in region I and making use of the values of the exponential function parameters the crack growth rate theory parameters were estimated.

Evaluation of IL-35 and hs-CRP in Iraqi Patients with Cardiovascular diseases
...Show More Authors

Interleukin-35 (IL-35) is a novel anti-inflammatory of IL-12 family member cytokine. High sensitive C- reactive protein (hs-CRP) is a marker of inflammation disease. This study was obtained to estimate the concentrations of IL-35 and hs-CRP in cardiovascular diseases Iraqi patients. The study contained 79 subjects divided into two groups, 47 (21 male and 26 female) suffering from cardiovascular diseases and 32 as control group. The concentration of IL-35 and hs-CRP was measured by enzyme- linked immune sorbent assay (ELISA). The results revealed that the concentrations of IL-35 and hs-CRP are increased in patients group. IL-35 is strongly expressed in human advanced plaque and hs-CRP. Therefore these two biomarkers cou
