Cytotoxic Effect of Methotrexate on Leishmania donovani Promastigotes
...Show More Authors

Leishmania is auxotroph to folic acid, antifolates drug inhibit the synthesis and conversion of folate derivatives. In this study, cytotoxic effect of methotrexate was investigated on the procyclic promastigotes proliferation of L. donovani. The results showed a significant (p ≥ 0.05) difference in growth of treated groups at high concentrations (1000, 500, 250, 125.5) μM after 24, 48 hrs., while at 72 hrs. significant difference was observed at all concentration. The IC50 values was measurable after 24, 48 and 72 hrs. and it was 174.238, 52.283 and 109.175 μM, respectively. The present study showed the cytotoxic effect of methotrexate on the proliferation of promastigotes of the visceral type of Leishmania.

Bioactive Effect of Cinnamomum zealynicum bark Extracts on Some Locally Isolated Pathogenic Bacteria
...Show More Authors

A series of experiments were conducted to evaluate the antibacterial effect of Cinnamomum zealynicum bark aqueous , methanol, and chloroform extracts against some gram positive and gram negative pathogenic bacteria which isolated from wound, throat infection, urine and stool during the period from December /2013 to February /2014 from Alkarama hospital in Wasit. All these isolates were identified by using VITEK2 compact system. Antibiotic sensitivity test of the bacterial isolates was determined for ten antibiotics. Chemical analysis showed that Cinnamomum zeylanicum bark extracts contained different active compounds (phenoles, alkaloids, tannins, glycosides, coumarins, saponins, resins flavones and essential oil). The laboratory tests o

Study the effect of Lysostaphin, on methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus( MRSA) biofilm formation
...Show More Authors

This study included collection of 100 specimens from patients in AL-Kindy Teaching Hospital and teaching laboratories of Medical City Hospitals in Baghdad during the period from August to December 2012 ,these specimens differed in their sources which included 19 nasal swab, 16 wound swab,27 burn swab, 7 pus, 15 sputum, 10 corneal swab and 6 urine . Only 38 (38%) isolates was identified as Staphylococcus. In this study, 29 isolates (76.3%) were coagulase-positive (COPS), while only 9 isolates(23.6%) were coagulase negative (CONS), from total 38 isolates of Staphylococci.
The distribution of Methicillin resistance among Staphylococcus spp. was investigated by disc diffusion method. In this study, 21 isolates (55.26%) showed resistant to

The Effect of Jigsaw Strategy on Learning Spiking in Volleyball for Sophomore Students
...Show More Authors

The research aimed at designing teaching program using jigsaw in learning spiking in volleyball as well as identifying the effect of these exercises on learning spring in volleyball. The researchers used the experimental method on (25) students as experimental group and (27) students as controlling group and (15) students as pilot study group. The researchers conducted spiking tests then the data was collected and treated using proper statistical operations to conclude that the strategy have a positive effect in experimental group. Finally, the researchers recommended using the strategy in making similar studies on other subjects and skills.

Study on the anti-microbial effect of Sinigrin against some pathogenic bacterial species
...Show More Authors

The increasing anti-bacterial drug resistance is one of the biggest challenges facing doctors around the globe, so finding alternative treatments is one of the ideal options to overcome this problem. The cruciferous family is one of the wealthiest plants worldwide because it contains the most important secondary metabolites, glucosinolates, known for their anti-microbial properties. The present study aimed to evaluate the anti-bacterial effect of glucosinolates (Sinigrin) against eight bacterial isolates (Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Actinomyces, Proteus mirabilis and Streptococcus pneumoniae). The current study investigated six concentrations of pure

Effect of Barium Sulfate Nanoparticles with Organic Alcohol on the Ionizing Radiation Shielding
...Show More Authors

In this study, the gamma ray shielding properties of  shields prepared from polyvinyl alcohol as a base material reinforced with barium sulfate nanoparticles at different reinforcement ratios (5,15,25,35,45 %) and thickness  1 cm  were studied. To determine the acceptability of these shields for use in gamma ray protection, some parameters including linear attenuation coefficient (μ), mean free path (λ), and half value layer (HVL) were determined using133Ba, 22Na, 137Cs, and 60Co radioactive sources  that produced gamma rays with energies of (356, 662, 1173, 1275 and 1332 KeV).  The (NaI (Tl)) gamma system was employed for this purpose. The fabricated shields' effective atomic

Effect of Fe2O3 Nanoparticles Dust on the D.C Plasma Characteristics with Mirror Magnetron
...Show More Authors

In this paper, the effect of iron oxide nanoparticles dust (Fe2O3 NPs) on the parameters of DC electric discharge plasma under vacuum in argon gas was studied with the presence of a mirror magnetron behind the electrodes (cathode and anode) at constant pressure and with different amounts of Fe2O3 nanoparticles. Calculations presented a reduction of the plasma emission intensity with the NPs content. Both the plasma density (calculated by Stark's broadening method) and the mean electron temperature (calculated using Boltzmann's equation) decreased with increasing the Fe2O3 nanoparticles dust content, which indicates clearly the effect of dust density on restricting
