Autoantibody Profile in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Patients
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease, in which the etiology is not well-understood; however, interactions between environmental and genetic factors in predisposed individuals have been recognized. As a consequence, immunological alternations occur and immune cells are involved, especially T and B lymphocytes that are activated to produce different immune components. Among these components are autoantibodies that react with self-antigens aside from non-self-antigens due to the proposed theory of molecular mimicry. Accordingly, the current study was designed to examine the profile of different autoantibodies in SLE patients by using the indirect membrane based enzyme immunoassay for the quantitative measurement of IgG class antibodies.Subjects:Sixty-four SLE patients (32 arthritis and 32 nephritis patients) and 32 healthy subjects (control) were enrolled in the study, and their sera were tested for anti-nucleosome, anti-histone, anti-smD1, anti-PCNA, anti-PO, anti-SS-A/Ro-60, anti-SS-A/Ro-52, anti-SS-B/La, anti-CENP, anti-SCI-70, anti-U1snRNP, anti-AMA-M2, anti-Jo-1, anti-PM-SCI, anti-Mi2 and anti-Ku autoantibodies in order to evaluate the autoimmunity status in SLE patients. Results:The sera of control subjects were negative for these antibodies; therefore, the comparisons were limited to the two groups of SLE patients; arthritis and nephritis. The highest percentage of seropositive arthritis patients was observed for anti-SS-A/Ro-60, anti-CENP and anti-U1snRNP antibodies (100.0%), while the lowest percentage was recorded for anti-Jo-1 antibody (15.6%). For nephritis patients, anti-U1snRNP antibody (87.5%) was also observed to have the highest percentage, and anti-Jo-1 antibody (3.1%) also recoded the lowest percentage. However, four autoantibodies (anti-PCNA, anti-SS-A/Ro-60, anti-SS-B/La and anti-CENP antibodies) showed different profiles in arthritis and nephritis SLE patients. They showed a significant increased percentage in arthritis patients compared to nephritis patients (anti-PCNA: 87.5vs. 50.0%,p= 0.003; anti-SS-A/Ro-60: 100.0vs. 81.2%,p= 0.02; anti-SS-B/La: 75.0vs. 43.8%,p= 0.02; anti-CENP: 100.0vs. 43.8%,p= 0.001).Conclusion:These findings suggest the diagnostic potential of autoantibodies as early markers for SLE development.</p>

The Effect of a Training Program on the Diabetic Patients Utilizing Skills of Insulin Injection Technique
...Show More Authors

Objectives: The study aims to evaluate patients’ performance toward insulin injection after training program to
identify the variation in skill of patients in insulin injection technique with regard to some variable (i.e.
educational level and duration of insulin injection.
Methodology: A quasi experimental study has been conducted on diabetic patients.
An observational checklist had been prepared which consisted of 4 main areas with 37 sub-items, which are
syringe preparation for injection, insulin drawing; skin preparation for injection and insulin injection. Each of the
sub-items has 2 options yes or no. One score for positive answer and zero for no.
The sample of the study consisted of (n =30) males and females

Identification of Candida species Isolated From Vulvovaginal Candidiasis Patients by Chromgen agar and PCR-RFLP Method
...Show More Authors

This study focuses on diagnosis of Candida species causing Vulvovaginal Candidiasis using phenotype and genotype analyzing methods, and frequencies of candida species also using Vulvovaginal Candidiasis patients. 130 samples (100 from patients and 30 from non infected women) were collected and cultured on biological media. Identifying the yeasts, initially some phenotypic experiments were carried out such as germ tube, from motion of pseudohyphae and clamydospores in CMA+TW80 medium, API20 candida and CHROMagar Candida. Genomic DNA of all species were extracted and analyzed with PCR and subsequent Polymerase Chain Reaction - Restriction Fragments Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) methods. Frequency of C. albicans, C. krusei, C. tropicalis , C.

INFLUENCE OF HUMAN LEUKOCYTE ANTIGEN HLA-DRB1 ON SUSCEPTIBILITY TO GIARDIA LAMBLIA INFECTION OF IRAQI PATIENTS
...Show More Authors

Giardia lamblia is the worldwide most common intestinal protozoan parasite. It was indicated that Giardia is the most important agent that causes acute and chronic diarrhea in infants, young children and travelers. The aim was to detect the influence of host HLA alleles on the susceptibility to infection with G. lamblia in a sample of Iraqi patients. A total of (40) patients with giardiasis aged (14-39) years were registered. All of them were symptomatic and (40) healthy individuals matched age and sexes were included as controls. All patients were prepared to stool examination to detect G. lamblia and eliminated other pathogens, as well as human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class II alleles (DRB1) typing. The most common detected alleles in pat

COMPARISON OF SOME NONPARAMETRIC METHODS TO DETERMINE THE NUMBER OF RADIATION DOSES FOR BREAST CANCER PATIENTS
...Show More Authors

Radiation therapy plays an important role in improving breast cancer cases, in order to obtain an appropriateestimate of radiation doses number given to the patient after tumor removal; some methods of nonparametric regression werecompared. The Kernel method was used by Nadaraya-Watson estimator to find the estimation regression function forsmoothing data based on the smoothing parameter h according to the Normal scale method (NSM), Least Squared CrossValidation method (LSCV) and Golden Rate Method (GRM). These methods were compared by simulation for samples ofthree sizes, the method (NSM) proved to be the best according to average of Mean Squares Error criterion and the method(LSCV) proved to be the best according to Average of Mean Absolu

Background: Coronavirus, which causes respiratory illness, has been a public health issue in recent decades. Because the clinical symptoms of infection are not always specific, it is difficult to expose all suspects to qualitative testing in order to confirm or rule out infection as a test. Methods: According to the scientific studies and investigations, seventy-three results of scientific articles and research  were obtained using PubMed, Medline, Research gate and Google Scholar. The research keywords used were COVID-19, coronavirus, blood parameters, and saliva. Results: This review provides a report on the changes in the blood and saliva tests of those who are infected with the COVID-19.COVID-19 is a systemic infection that has
