Background: Neudesin is a peptide secreted in brain and adipose tissues that has neural and metabolic functions. Its role as regulator of energy expenditure leads to assumption that its level may be regulated depending on thyroid gland pathology. Objective: This study aimed to investigate serum neudesin levels in patients with thyroidism and to evaluate1 any possible relationship between plasma neudesin levels and thyroid hormone levels. Methods: The study included 100 women with newly diagnosed thyroidisim were subdivided into two groups: hyperthyroidism group (50 female patients with age ranged from 18 to 60 years) and hypothyroidism group (50 female patients with age ranged from 18 to 75 years). A control group (30 healthy females with age ranged from 18 to 70 years) was also included for comparison. Body mass index (BMI) was evaluated. Plasma glucose, lipid profile, triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxin (T4), free T3, free T4, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and neudesin levels were evaluated in all participants using ELISA kit. Results: The hyperthyroidism group had significantly (p=0.001) higher serum neudesin concentrations (4.47 ± 2.28 ng/mL) than in hypothyroidism (1.15 ± 0.43 ng/mL) and control groups (1.06 ± 0.36 ng/mL). A correlation analysis applied to the whole study group revealed a positive correlation between serum neudesin concentration and T4 in patients with hypothyroidism. Conclusions: Due to the relation of increased levels of neudesin in hyperthyroidism, neudesin may be related with one of pathophysiologic pathways of thyroidism. Still, it is not certain that higher neudesin level is involved in the pathogenesis of thyroidism or as a result of the disorder.
Background: Age progression is regarded as a critical risk factor in morbidity and mortality because of a weakened immune system. Although various studies have dealt with electrolyte imbalance in COVID-19 patients, the outcomes of these studies were partially understood. Objective: The current study aims to determine some biochemical parameters in old Iraqi COVID-19 patients and highlight the outcomes according to the aging role in the development of COVID-19 by suggesting new mechanisms. Materials and methods: forty COVID-19 patients were enrolled in the current study and divided into two groups: Gm includes (20) men, and Gf includes (20) women. The parameters (Na+, K+, Cl-, LDH, and Hb ) were determined in sera of patients and c

Considering the success story of anti-HER2/neu drugs in breast cancer oncology, the present study was conducted. The study evaluates the immunohistochemical expression of HER2/neu in endometrioid cancer among Iraqi patients. Aim: To assess the immunohistochemical expression of HER2/neu in endometrioid carcinoma of uterus and to find the relationship of this expression with FIGO stage and grade and with patient age. Materials and Methods: In this cross sectional study, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue blocks of 62 hysterectomy specimens that were diagnosed as endometrioid carcinoma in the teaching labora

Urinary stone is a crystal aggregation formed in urinary system due to minerals saturation present in urine. The structure of dental calculus is similar to that of urinary stone. Objective: To assess oral hygiene and gingival status in patients with urinary stone. And compared with healthy subjects. Patients and Methods: Sixty participants, 25-40 years, were involved in this study who were divided into study and control group. The study group involved patients with urinary stone while the control group involved healthy subjects. Clinical parameters including plaque, calculus and gingival indices were recorded for al

Diabetic people are more likely to develop dyslipidemia, hypertension, and obesity. Type 2 diabetes (T2DM), the most common illness, is generally asymptomatic in its early stages and can go misdiagnosed for years. Diabetes screening may be beneficial in some cases since early identification and treatment can lessen the burden of diabetes and its consequences. This study aimed to find the relationship between Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and lipid profile components in T2DM patients. Background: Hair loss is a frequent and distressing manifestation among patients with hypothyroidism. In addition to thyroid hormone imbalance, deficiencies in vitamins and minerals may contribute to impaired hair follicle function. Objective: This study aimed to assess serum vitamin and mineral profiles in patients with hypothyroidism-associated hair loss and to explore their relationship with thyroid hormone status. Methods: the study was conducted on a total of 90 participants, including 65 patients diagnosed with hypothyroidism-associated hair loss, 25 control - and sex-matched apparently healthy control subjects, groups aged 30 and over. Serum levels of vitamin D3, vitamin B12, zinc, iron, ferritin, calcium, magnesium, th
