Background: Previous studies about the correlation of genetic polymorphisms in the multigene family of cyto- chrome P450 (CYPs), the effect of tobacco smoking, and the risk of developing cancer have been well in- vestigated in different populations, but not in Iraq. Furthermore, the studies of malignance occurrence re- lationship with cigarette tobacco smoking revealed the presence of strong association, however, little is known about the risk of Waterpipe (WP) tobacco smoking. Thus, determination two important genetic polymorphisms in CYP1A1, a main member of CYPs, among Iraqi men was our first aim. This is the first study that highlights the correlation of CYP1A1 polymorphisms with the risk of lung cancer in Iraq. The second aim was to evaluate the combined association of WP tobacco smoking and CYP1A1-Ile462Val and -MspI polymorphisms in lung cancer risk. Methods: This study included 123 lung cancer patients and 129 controls. To determine the variant genotypes, the techniques of Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and DNA sequencing were carried out. Results: The data revealed the possible associations of variant (G) allele of CYP1A1-Ile462Val (OR = 1.6; 95% CI = 1.1–2.4; P = 0.01) and variant (C) allele of CYP1A1-MspI (OR = 1.9; 95% CI = 1.3–2.7; P < 0.01) with the risk of lung cancer. The variant genotypes of CYP1A1 polymorphisms were significantly correlated in the case of squamous cell carcinoma and synergistically associated in the case of combined effect with WP tobacco smoking (ORIleVal = 2.0; 95% CI = 1.0–4.1; P = 0.04, and ORMspI = 2.6; 95% CI = 1.3–5.5; P ≤ 0.01). Conclusion: The results suggest that WP tobacco smoking and genetic polymorphisms in CYP1A1 are most likely important risk factors for lung cancer in the Iraqi population.
The study aims to measure and evaluate the return and the risk formulas of Islamic finance of Jordan during the period (2000 – 2009) according of increasing importance of these banks in recent and coming years to face challenges to maximize returns and minimize risks through financing with Islamic formula to investigate of existence statistical significant relationship between returns and risking Islamic bank , has been use of financial other statistical measurement. Measuring return and risk of Islamic banks have not been widely considered ,except in few descriptive studies . The controversy among academic and professionals about hot to measure and evaluate a comprehe

A pro-inflammatory cytokine Interleukin32 is believed to have a role in chronic HBV infections. Since its role in CHB infections is remain unclear, this study was done to detect IL-32 gene expression in CHB patients in order to identify its exact role. A total number of 110 blood samples were collected from Gastroenterology and Hepatology Teaching Hospital in Baghdad Medical City from CHB patients for both males and females with different age groups according to the research ethics form then sent to Central Public Health Laboratory (CPHL),

The roots were prepared chemo-mechanically using k-files with crown-down technique and then obturated with lateral condensation gutta-percha technique. Teeth were divided into four main groups according to the cavity preparation method either manual or ultrasonic technique: Group A (n=10): A class I retrograde cavity at root end was prepared with traditional handpeice equipped and placement of Biodentine with manual condensation. Materials and methods: Forty dental students (20 males and 20 females) were selected under certain criteria. For those individuals, dental impressions, frontal facial photographs and maximum bite force at molar and incisor regions were taken. The dental arches widths and facial dimensions were measured using the AutoCAD program 2007, while the bite force was determined using special device. Descriptive statistics for the measured variables were performed and gender difference was determined using independent sample t-test, while the rel

Soil samples and the biomass of the eight vegetable species have been collected during summer season, 2019 from four different sites in Wadi Al-Arg, Taif Governorate, KSA. In general, heavy metals content of soil samples in site III and IV have recorded elevated values compared with those of site I and II. The soil from site IV has shown the highest concentration of Mn, Ni, Cr, Pb, Cu, and Cd amounted 31.63, 14.05, 13.56, 22.79, 31.02 and 2.98 mg/kg dry soil respectively, while the soil from site III has sh

Carvone is chiral monoterpenoid ketone present in the essential oils of dill, caraway, and spearmint. It shows antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects among others. In this study, the lung anti-inflammatory and protective effects and potential mechanism of action of carvone were investigated in ALI induced by Lipopolysaccharide (LPS).
