Background: Diabetes mellitus is a major risk factor for chronic periodontitis (CP) and hyperglycemia has an important role in the enhancement of the severity of the periodontitis. It has been reported that the progression of CP causes shifting of the balance between bone formation and resorption toward osteoclastic resorption, and this will lead to the release of collagenous bone breakdown products into the local tissues and the systemic circulation. Cross-linked N-telopeptide of type I collagen (NTx) is the amino-terminal peptides of type I collagen which is released during the process of bone resorption. This study was conducted to determine the effects of nonsurgical periodontal therapy on serum level of NTx in type 2 diabetic patients with chronic periodontitis (CP) and in systemically healthy patients with CP and to correlate NTx level with the clinical periodontal parameters in the studied groups. Materials and methods: The studied sample consisted of ninety subjects of both genders with an age range (35-55). They were divided into three groups, the first group consisted of 30 subjects with healthy periodontium and systemically healthy (control group), the second group consisted of 30 patients having chronic periodontitis and type 2 diabetes mellitus (CPDM) group, and the third group consisted of 30 patients with chronic periodontitis only and systemically healthy (CP) group. All the subjects enrolled in this study were with normal body mass index. The clinical periodontal parameters measured were plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI), probing pocket depth (PPD), and relative attachment level (RAL). The blood samples were collected from all individuals and examined to measure the serum level of NTx using enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay (ELISA). Patients with chronic periodontitis were treated with scaling and root planning (SRP) and recalled for further measurements of the clinical periodontal parameters and collection of the blood sample to measure the serum level of NTx after eight weeks. Results: All the clinical periodontal parameters at the baseline were higher than that after treatment. PPD and RAL were highest in CPDM group followed by CP. Regarding the level of NTx at the baseline; it was highest in CPDM group followed by CP group then the control group. After treatment, results revealed a reduction in NTx level for both CPDM and CP groups. Regarding the correlation between the clinical periodontal parameters and NTx level, the results revealed almost a non-significant weak positive correlation. Conclusions: SRP is an impactful procedure and results in the improvement of all the clinical periodontal parameters and reduction in the serum level of cross-linked N-telopeptide of type I collagen which could be considered as a good bone resorption marker in the studied groups.

Objective: To study the incidence of bacterial

diabetic complications.
Methods: A prospective study of the diabetic

Background: Diabetic patients with accompanied dyslipidemia are soft targets for cardiovascular diseases. An early intervention to normalize circulating lipids has been shown to reduce
cardiovascular complications and mortality. Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is a routinely used marker for long-term glycemic control.
Objective: to investigate the role of HbA1c as a marker of circulating lipids in type 2 diabetic patients
Subjects and Methods: A total of 450 type 2 diabetic patients (214 males and 236 females), mean age was 55.5 ± 9.35. who attended the National Diabetic Center, Al-Mustansiria university during the period from December 2010 to May 2011 were included in this study Fasting venous blood sample
Diabetic Nephropathy(DN) is a complex disease manifested by persistence microalbuminuria occurring due to the interaction between hemodynamic and metabolic pathway that activates the local renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system resulting in a decline in renal functions.
This study aimed to quantify the associations between serum aldosterone concentration and fetuin- A as a marker of calcification in type 2 diabetic patients with and without microalbuminuria from one side, and study the possible relationship between aldosterone and fetuin-A with glycemic indices, serum electrolyte, renal function and microalbuminuria and body mass index from the other side.

Aims of the study: To assess the level of salivary T-AOC of patients with chronic periodontitis in comparison to healthy control and to correlate between the level of this marker with the clinical periodontal parameters (plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI), bleeding on probing (BOP), probing pocket depth (PPD), and clinical attachment level (CAL)). Materials and Methods: Ninety subjects of males and females with an age ranged between (35-55) years were participated in this study. Participants were divided into two grou

Diabetic cystopathyaffects patients in both sexes, and its prevalence increases over time with diabetes; our concern is to evaluate the urodynamic findings of bladder dysfunction in diabetic patients.A cross sectional study conducted at Ghazi Al-Hariri Surgical specialized hospital during the period from the firsts of January 2018 to the end of Mar 2019, in which 118 diabetic patients (71 female and 47 male) with lower urinary tract symptoms were enrolled in the current study. This study evaluated the glycemic control by using two groups of combinations of drugs metformin + glibenclamide and metformin + sitagliptin in Baghdad teaching hospital / medical city. 68 T2DM patients and 34 normal healthy individuals as control group were enrolled in this study and categorized in to two treatment groups. Diabetes mellitus is a common health problem worldwide counting about 1.2 million cases in Iraq in 2015. Taking in account of the patient’s beliefs about the prescribed medication had been reported to be one of the most important factors that affects adherence where holding positive beliefs about medications is a prerequisite for intentional adherence. The aim of the current study was to investigate and assess beliefs about medicines among type 2 diabetic patients and to determine possible association between this belief and glycemic control as well as some patient-specific factors. This study is a cross-sectional study carried out on 380 (mean age 56.58± 10.06 years) already diagnosed T2DM patients who attended the National Diabetes

Rheumatoid factor is a well-established test used in the diagnosis and follows the prognosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Rheumatoid factor is sometimes found in serum of patients with other diseases including diabetes mellitus (DM), due to the presence of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF- α which play an important role in chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The aim of the study is to investigate the associations between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in scope of rheumatoid factor (RF), hyperglycemia a
