Salivary E‐cadherin as a biomarker for diagnosis and predicting grade of periodontitis
...Show More Authors
Abstract
<title>Objectives

To determine the abilities of salivary E‐cadherin to differentiate between periodontal health and periodontitis and to discriminate grades of periodontitis.

Background

E‐cadherin is the main protein responsible for maintaining the integrity of epithelial‐barrier function. Disintegration of this protein is one of the events associated with the destructive forms of periodontal disease leading to increase concentration of E‐cadherin in the oral biofluids.

Materials and Methods

A total of 63 patients with periodontitis (case) and 35 periodontally healthy subjects (control) were included. For each patient, periodontal parameters including bleeding on probing (BOP), probing pocket depth (PPD), and clinical attachment level (CAL) were recorded. Concentration of salivary E‐cadherin was determined by ELISA. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and area under the curve (AUC) were used to determine the diagnostic potentials of E‐cadherin.

Results

Level of salivary E‐cadherin was significantly higher in periodontitis cases than controls. The ROC analysis showed that salivary E‐cadherin exhibits excellent sensitivity and specificity (AUC 1.000) to differentiate periodontal health from periodontitis with a cutoff concentration equal to 1.325 ng/mL. The AUCs of E‐cadherin to differentiate grade A from grade B and C periodontitis were 0.731 (cutoff point = 1.754 ng/mL) and 0.746 (cutoff point = 1.722 ng/mL), respectively. However, the AUC of salivary E‐cadherin to differentiate grade B from grade C periodontitis was lower (0.541). Additionally, BOP and PPD were significantly and positively correlated with the concentration of salivary E‐cadherin.

Conclusion

Salivary E‐cadherin exhibited excellent sensitivity and specificity to differentiate periodontitis from a healthy periodontium. The level of accuracy of E‐cadherin was also sufficient to recognize grade A periodontitis from grade B and C periodontitis.

Artificial Intelligent Models for Detection and Prediction of Lost Circulation Events: A Review
...Show More Authors

Lost circulation or losses in drilling fluid is one of the most important problems in the oil and gas industry, and it appeared at the beginning of this industry, which caused many problems during the drilling process, which may lead to closing the well and stopping the drilling process. The drilling muds are relatively expensive, especially the muds that contain oil-based mud or that contain special additives, so it is not economically beneficial to waste and lose these muds. The treatment of drilling fluid losses is also somewhat expensive as a result of the wasted time that it caused, as well as the high cost of materials used in the treatment such as heavy materials, cement, and others. The best way to deal with drilling fluid losses

A novel method for the synthesis of biodiesel from soybean oil and urea
...Show More Authors

The increasing demand for energy has encouraged the development of renewable resources and environmentally benign fuel such as biodiesel. In this study, ethyl fatty esters (EFEs), a major component of biodiesel fuel, were synthesized from soybean oil using sodium ethoxide as a catalyst. By-products were glycerol and difatty acyl urea (DFAU), which has biological characteristics, as antibiotics and antifungal medications. Both EFEs and DFAU have been characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique. The optimum conditions were studied as a function of reaction time, reactant molar ratios, catalyst percentage and the effect of organic solvents. The conversion ratio of soybea

Analysis and Evaluation of a Quasi-Passive Lower Limb Exoskeleton for Gait Rehabilitation
...Show More Authors

Lower extremity exoskeletons can assist with performing particular functions such as gait assistance, and physical therapy support for subjects who have lost the ability to walk. This paper presents the analysis and evaluation of lightweight and adjustable two degrees of freedom, quasi-passive lower limb device to improve gait rehabilitation. The exoskeleton consists of a high torque DC motor mounted on a metal plate above the hip joint, and a link that transmits assistance torque from the motor to the thigh. The knee joint is passively actuated by spring installed parallel with the joint. The action of the passive component (spring) is combined with mechanical output of the motor to provide a good control on the designed exoskeleton whi

Evaluation of the effectiveness of using platelet rich fibrin (PRF) as a sole grafting material and membrane in augmentation of dehiscence and fenestration defects encountered during dental implant surgery
...Show More Authors

Background: Bone regeneration in dehiscence and fenestration defect can be improved with the use of platelet rich fibrin (PRF) that provides a scaffold for new bone regeneration. This study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of PRF as a graft material and membrane in dehiscence and fenestration defects. Materials and Methods: This prospective clinical study included patients who received dental implants that demonstrated peri-implant defects which were augmented using Leukocyte- PRF (L-PRF) or Advanced-PRF (A-PRF). Twenty four weeks postoperatively the defect resolution and the density of regenerated bone were assessed by CBCT and re-entry surgery. The assessment also included measurement of primary and secondary implant stability

The research aimed to identify "the effectiveness of educational-learning design according to the model of brain compatibility in achievement among firstmiddle grade students in mathematics", in schools affiliated with the Second Karkh Directorate of Education. To achieve the goal of research, the following zero hypothesis has been formulated: " There is no statistically significant difference at the semantic level (05.0) between the average scores of experimental group students who will study with design accreditation (educational - learning) according to the brain compatibility model and the grades of control group students who will study in the usual way in the achievement thinking test". The research community, which is represented by

Synthesis and Characterization of Some New Pyrazoline and Isoxazoline Derivatives as Antibacterial Agents
...Show More Authors

In this paper some chalcones (C1-C8) are prepared based on the reaction of one mole of substituted acetophenone with one mole of substituted benzaldehydes in the presence of (40%) sodium hydroxide as a base. Pyrazolines (P1–P8) are prepared from the reaction of chalcones (C1-C8) with hydrazine hydrate. Isoxazoline (I1-I8) is prepared from the reaction of chalcones (C1-C8) with hydroxyl amine hydrochloride in the presence of (10%) sodium hydroxide as a base. These compounds are characterized by using various physical and spectral methods. The compounds are screened for their in vitro antibacterial activity using gram-positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria.
