A survey on deep learning tools dealing with data scarcity: definitions, challenges, solutions, tips, and applications
...Show More Authors
Abstract
Data scarcity is a major challenge when training deep learning (DL) models. DL demands a large amount of data to achieve exceptional performance. Unfortunately, many applications have small or inadequate data to train DL frameworks. Usually, manual labeling is needed to provide labeled data, which typically involves human annotators with a vast background of knowledge. This annotation process is costly, time-consuming, and error-prone. Usually, every DL framework is fed by a significant amount of labeled data to automatically learn representations. Ultimately, a larger amount of data would generate a better DL model and its performance is also application dependent. This issue is the main barrier for
... Show More

Automated Detection of Dubas Bug Infestation in Palm Trees Using Deep Learning with Residual Neural Networks
...Show More Authors

Automated detection of Dubas palm infestation by image processing techniques has practical significance as it can improve agricultural efficiency, increase crop yield and quality, protect the environment, and provide data-driven insights. It also reduces the human effort required for pest control and enhances sustainability. In this study, we aimed to automate the detection of Dubas bug infestation in palm trees using deep learning with transfer learning residual neural networks. Based on four models: InceptionResNetV2, ResNet18, ResNet50, and ResNet101, the data used in this study were obtained by drone photography, many images were taken, and then the infected area was extracted. Using two types of data, 185 infected images and 185 health

Experimental Study on the Effect of Using Metallic Brushes on the Charging and Discharging Time of Thermal Energy Storage Unit
...Show More Authors

Phase change materials are known to be good in use in latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) systems, but one of their drawbacks is the slow melting and solidification processes. So that, in this work, enhancing heat transfer of phase change material is studied experimentally for in charging and discharging processes by the addition of high thermal conductive material such as copper in the form of brushes, which were added in both PCM and air sides. The additions of brushes have been carried out with different void fractions (97%, 94% and 90%) and the effect of four different air velocities was tested. The results indicate that the minimum brush void fraction gave the maximum heat transfer in PCM and reduced the time

Numerical analysis of the energy-storage performance of a PCM-based triplex-tube containment system equipped with arc-shaped fins
...Show More Authors

This study numerically intends to evaluate the effects of arc-shaped fins on the melting capability of a triplex-tube confinement system filled with phase-change materials (PCMs). In contrast to situations with no fins, where PCM exhibits relatively poor heat response, in this study, the thermal performance is modified using novel arc-shaped fins with various circular angles and orientations compared with traditional rectangular fins. Several inline and staggered layouts are also assessed to maximize the fin’s efficacy. The effect of the nearby natural convection is further investigated by adding a fin to the bottom of the heat-storage domain. Additionally, the Reynolds number and temperature of the heat-transfer fluid (HTF) are e

Renewable energy (solar energy) and its potential for electricity generation in Iraq
...Show More Authors

The world's renewable energy sources have taken on great importance, for its cleanness and its environmental effects as well as being a renewable source, Increased demand for fossil energy sources is also causing global warming and climate change. Iraq is an appropriate area for renewable energy This study shows that renewable alternative energy has not been used sufficiently enough at present. But this energy can play an important role in the future of renewable energy in Iraq. This research aims to study the renewable energy in Iraq (solar energy) and it is appropriate to develop this alternative energy for crude oil, which is characterized by the use of the most appropriate and less economical and more environmentally friendly. Design and implementation monitoring robotic system based on you only look once model using deep learning technique
...Show More Authors

The need for robotics systems has become an urgent necessity in various fields, especially in video surveillance and live broadcasting systems. The main goal of this work is to design and implement a rover robotic monitoring system based on raspberry pi 4 model B to control this overall system and display a live video by using a webcam (USB camera) as well as using you only look once algorithm-version five (YOLOv5) to detect, recognize and display objects in real-time. This deep learning algorithm is highly accurate and fast and is implemented by Python, OpenCV, PyTorch codes and the Context Object Detection Task (COCO) 2020 dataset. This robot can move in all directions and in different places especially in

Material cost reduction using cutting optimization Pro5 and enhanced N-BEATS deep learning forecasting: a case study
...Show More Authors

Manufacturing industry is constantly looking for ways to improve the efficiency of production processes so as to lower production costs, maintain product quality, and improve production planning. This study aims to provide an integrated optimization and forecasting framework that combines Cutting Optimization Pro5, linear programming, and an Enhanced N-BEATS deep learning model to minimize material waste and manufacturing cost and to predict the number of production items with a price-reduction strategy. The real industrial case study is based on production and pricing data from the Akad factory of the General Company for Electrical and Electronic Products in Iraq for the period from 2014 to 2025, concerning the manufacture of 80 L
