Impact of Plasma Focal Adhesion Kinase, Ephrin Receptor Type A4, and Adiponectin in Patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia
...Show More Authors
Abstract
<title>BACKGROUND:

Focal adhesion kinase (FAK), ephrin receptor type A4 (EphA4), and adiponectin (ADPN) are important indicators in inflammation, tumor growth, migration, and angiogenesis in some cancers. The predictive impact of their concentrations in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients to be identified remains. The research sought to explore the effect of FAK, EphA4, and ADPN as prognostic biomarkers, and their influence on patient survival, and to look for any potential correlation between their levels with hematological parameters in AML patients.

PATIENTS, MATERIALS, AND METHODS:

The study was carried out on 65 newly diagnosed adult de novo AML patients and 15 controls. Plasma levels were assayed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay at diagnosis. The overall survival (OS) was determined after 12 months.

RESULTS:

The FAK concentrations were significantly (P < 0.001) higher among AML patients than the controls. EphA4 level was insignificantly lower in AML patients than in control (P = 0.902), and insignificantly higher ADPN concentrations among AML patients than the control (P = 0.352). There were no significant differences between monocytic and nonmonocytic AML patients in FAK, EphA4, and ADPN levels. Regarding the OS, cases with lower than median levels of FAK were associated with a significant (P = 0.002) higher OS time in days, and cases with higher than median levels of EphA4 and ADPN had a significant (P = 0.007 and P = 0.039, respectively) higher OS time in days.

CONCLUSIONS:

FAK, EphA4, and ADPN can be used as noninvasive prognostic markers in AML patients with a possible role in AML pathogenesis, and resistance to chemotherapy.

Performance Comparison of Transport Layer Protocols
...Show More Authors

Transport layer is responsible for delivering data to the appropriate application process on the host computers. The two most popular transport layer protocols are Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP). TCP is considered one of the most important protocols in the Internet. UDP is a minimal message-oriented Transport Layer protocol. In this paper we have compared the performance of TCP and UDP on the wired network. Network Simulator (NS2) has been used for performance Comparison since it is preferred by the networking research community. Constant bit rate (CBR) traffic used for both TCP and UDP protocols.

In this study, we review the ARIMA (p, d, q), the EWMA and the DLM (dynamic linear moodelling) procedures in brief in order to accomdate the ac(autocorrelation)  structure of data .We consider the recursive estimation and prediction algorithms based on Bayes and KF (Kalman filtering) techniques for correlated observations. We investigate the effect on the MSE of  these procedures and compare them using generated data.

Volumetric chemical adsorption was done in a volumetric apparatus using hydrogen gas at room temperature on eleven platinum catalyst, commercial catalysts (RG-412,RG-402 ,RG-432, RG-451, RG-482, and PS-10) and prepared platinum catalysts with 0.1, 0.2 , 0.45 , and 0.55% by weight of Pt supported with Y-alumina. The results show that the metal crystallite area increases with increasing platinum content. The dispersion and particle size of metal crystallite located between 48.2-96.1% and 3.85-12.72 nm, respectively. For bimetallic catalysts, the hydrogen intake decrease in the following order : Re < Sn < Ir.

Economic Researcher & Methodology of Scientific research
...Show More Authors

The paper contains a theoretical analysis of the interrelation between methodology of economics used by economic researchers and the methodology of scientific research, encouraging readers to think differently about one of the most complicated & controversial subjects.

The analysis begins with the determination of propositions that were discussed and explained in the course of the argument.

1- The economic researcher, like a scientific one, goes after the procedures of physical sciences and benefits of the forms of logic.

2- Economics deals with human behavior while the natural sciences deal with the matter.

3-This similarity a

WAYS OF CREATING ARABIC SCIENTIFIC TERMINOLOGY
...Show More Authors

Resumen The article deals with the analysis of different ways of creating Arabic scientific terminology. Arabic scientific style includes the terminology that represents different scientific areas functioning in all Arabic countries. These ways can be classified as: giving the meaning of terms; construction of new terms according to the rules of word formation; reduction and ellipsis of terms; direct term borrowing, all the above-mentioned being subject to further analysis. Main objectives of academic style, the specific features and certain lexical and grammatical peculiarities of the Arabic scientific terminology are under consideration as well. Discussed in the paper are linguistic and extra-linguistic factors influencing the ways of sci

The Characteristics of English Linking Adverbials
...Show More Authors

Linking adverbials are used to organize and bridge together extended stretches of discourse to make the text coherent. They are explicit indicators of the communicative function of the sentence and writers use them to let their readers follow what has already been said and to help them anticipate what is about to follow.
Linking adverbials include those relations of addition, enumeration, summation, apposition and so on. Through the use of these adverbials, the writer is able to organize and develop his ideas and help the reader follow him from one sentence to another. Thus, a linking adverbial is a semantic relation used to show the way in which what is to follow is systematically connected to what has gone before. So, they have anap
