In vitro evaluation of bond strength and antibacterial activity of newly developed orthodontic self-adhesive resins (a pilot study)
...Show More Authors
OBJECTIVES:

This range-finding study aimed to develop novel primer-less self-adhesive resins (SARs) for orthodontic bracket bonding that can provide clinically acceptable bond strengths and antibacterial effects and leave minimal remnant adhesive post-bracket debonding.

MATERIALS AND METHODS:

Different concentrations of bioactive glass (BAG), strontium fluoride (SrF 2 ), and powdered grape seed extract (GSE) were added to a plain SAR to develop ten adhesive formulations for brackets bonding to extracted premolars, which were subjected to thermocycling (5000 cycles) prior to shear bond strength (SBS) and adhesive remnant index (ARI) assessments. Antibacterial activity and biofilm formation tests were conducted to evaluate the antibacterial properties of the developed SARs.

RESULTS:

The addition of 0.5% GSE to plain SAR + BAG 1% yielded the highest SBS value with minimal ARI, yet the differences were statistically insignificant ( P > 0.05). The best antibacterial performance was demonstrated by the addition of 0.5% GSE, followed by 0.5% SrF 2 to the plain SAR + BAG group.

CONCLUSION:

Incorporating 1% BAG, combinations of 0.5% SrF 2 + 3% BAG and 0.5% GSE + 1% BAG into a plain SAR yielded three newly developed formulations that provided clinically acceptable SBS with minimal adhesive remnants left on enamel post bracket debonding and improved antibacterial properties.

The initial stability of dental implant with horizontal plate (An in vitro study)
...Show More Authors

Background: The Initial (primary) stability is one of the factors that play an important role in the success of the dental implants. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the initial stability of dental implant with horizontal plate by using five analytical tests: insertion torque, removal torque, resonance frequency analysis, push-in test and pull-out test. Materials and methods: Two different lengths of dental implants (5mm and 10mm) were tested in this study; each dental implant was 4mm in diameter with a square threads shape of 1mm pitch and 0.5mm depth. The crestal area was 4.2mm diameter contained a right angle margin circumferential ring while the apical area was tapered with two self-tapping grooves. In this study, the initial s

Discoloration of Stretched Clear Elastomeric Chains by Dietary Media (An in vitro study)
...Show More Authors

Background: With the increasing demand on esthetic orthodontic appliances, discoloration of clear elastomeric chains and modules remains an issue which concerns both orthodontics and patients. This in vitro study was conducted to evaluate the effect of exposing stretched clear elastomeric chains from six different companies (Ortho Technology, Ormco, Ortho Organizer, American Orthodontics, Opal and G&H companies) to three types of dietary media (tea, coffee and turmeric). Materials and methods: A total of 960 lengths of six modules were cut from short type elastomeric chain; 160 pieces from each brand. The specimens were stretched 50%, placed on plastic boards, and incubated in water at 37°C for 1 day, 7 days, 14 days and 28 days. Once a

The Combined Effect of Two Natural Extracts on Enamel Remineralization (in vitro Study)
...Show More Authors

Objective: Dental caries is a chronic infectious disease that is prevalent worldwide in all age groups. Numerous attempts have been made to develop conservative approaches to halt caries progression and restore enamel defects. This study aimed to investigate the effect of applying grape seed extract and chicken eggshell extract on the microhardness of demineralized enamel in permanent teeth. Methods: Forty-eight sound upper first premolars were used. Following demineralization with the demineralizing solution for 96 hours, they were distributed into four groups consistent with the treatment agent used: group A was treated with casein phosphopeptide amorphous calcium phosphate (as a control group), group B was treated with grape se

The objective of this study is to explain the role of credit policies in agricultural development of Iraq during the period 1979-1989 which were represented by the policy of co-operative agricultural bank the organization that responsible to finance agricultural sector for various reasons. It has been shown that there was no clear credit policy existed during the period concerned due to the differences between loans from year. The loan growth rate was low in general comparing with objectives of the agricultural development plans, a low production rates comparing with loans paid, the growth rate of average number of trees in each donum and the growth rate of livestock number was also low.In conclusion there should be a clear plan for cred

This research aims to predict the value of the maximum daily loss that the fixed-return securities portfolio may suffer in Qatar National Bank - Syria, and for this purpose data were collected for risk factors that affect the value of the portfolio represented by the time structure of interest rates in the United States of America over the extended period Between 2017 and 2018, in addition to data related to the composition of the bonds portfolio of Qatar National Bank of Syria in 2017, And then employing Monte Carlo simulation models to predict the maximum loss that may be exposed to this portfolio in the future. The results of the Monte Carlo simulation showed the possibility of decreasing the value at risk in the future due to the dec

ABSTRACT Background: Color changes that are detectable to human eye can affect the esthetic appearance of ceramic veneers. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the effect of artificial accelerated aging on the color of ceramic veneers cemented with different resin cements. Materials and Methods: Sixty discs were prepared with 0.5 mm thickness, 30 discs made from IPS e.max press (Ivoclar Vivadent) and 30 discs were made from VITA Enamic (VITA Zahnfabrik). The discs were cemented with three resin cements: Variolink Veneer MV 0 shade (Ivoclar Vivadent), Rely X veneer Translucent shade (3M ESPE) and NX3 Nexus Clear shade (Kerr Corporation) with 0.1 mm thickness. Study on Strength Behavior of Expansive Soil Stabilized with Dune Sand and Sodium Silicate
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>When designing structures constructed on soil that undergoes volumetric changes due to variations in its moisture content, the upward pressure exerted by the soil poses a risk to the safety of the facilities. A significant number of researchers are looking into solutions to either treat these soils or lessen the detrimental consequences they have. One treatment option involves stabilizing these soils by adding low-expansion soil or materials, which can impact their swell characteristics. This study aimed to investigate the effect that the addition of dune sand and sodium silicate material would have on the swellability and strength behaviour of swellable bentonite soil.
