Spatial Variability of Some Soil Chemical and Fertility Properties in Hydrosequences through Grain Crops Growing Areas of Najaf and Alqadissiya Provinces
...Show More Authors

Kiffil Shinafiya project was selected as it’s been conducted and covering the areas of grain crops agriculture in Najaf and Qadissiya provinces. Lands of this project are considered as a part of the Mesopotamian plain located in between N32⁰ 15′, N31⁰ 30′ and E44⁰ 44’, E44⁰ 20′. Three hydrosequences were disclosed with three transects (T1, T2, T3) in the area of study. The first hydrosequence was perpendicular on the other two sequences. Fifteen pedons were outcropped, five pedons in each transect in addition to eighteen more surface samples to be a total samples of 33 locations. Pedons were morphologically described due to soil survey manual (Soil Survey Staff, 2017). Spatial distribution of soil salinity showed that the largest area was for the class 4-8 dS.m-1, while sodium adsorption ratio ranged from 1.05-55.58 where the highest value was in the second pedon of the first transect. Also, pH of soil showed weak spatial variability due to the range it is included in calcareous soils between 7.02 up to 8.57. Carbonate minerals showed simple variation as well in the area of study in a range of 114.15-494.37 gm.kg-1 in the surface horizons and samples where the highest content was in the third pedon of the first transect. Map of spatial distribution showed that there is a similarity between both of organic matter an organic carbon, where the highest content of the organic matter and carbon was in the thirteenth pedon of the third transect at 21.85 gm.kg-1 and 12.70 gm.kg-1 respectively. Total nitrogen showed highest content of 0.16% in the sixth pedon of the second transect and the thirteenth pedon of the third transect of the hydrose-quences. Available nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium content in soil showed that the highest content of available nitrogen was 77.00 mg.kg-1 in the tenth pedon of the second transect which is located at the end of the hydrosequence, while available phosphorus of the highest value was in the fifth pedon of the first transect that is located at the highest part of the hydrosequence of that transect, and the available potassium did not show a specific distribution spatially.

Numerical modeling of single closed and open-ended pipe pile embedded in dry soil layers under coupled static and dynamic loadings

Abstract<p>For the design of a deep foundation, piles are presumed to transfer the axial and lateral loads into the ground. However, the effects of the combined loads are generally ignored in engineering practice since there are uncertainties to the precise definition of soil–pile interactions. Hence, for technical discussions of the soil–pile interactions due to dynamic loads, a three-dimensional finite element model was developed to evaluate the soil pile performance based on the 1 g shaking table test. The static loads consisted of 50% of the allowable vertical pile capacity and 50% of the allowable lateral pile capacity. The dynamic loads were taken from the recorded data of the Kobe e</p> ... This article includes designed and synthesized for bent-shaped liquid crystal molecules starting from 5,5-diethylpyrimidine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione and two moles of chloroacetylchloride in N, N-dimethyl formamide (DMF) and triethylamine (TEA) to product compound [I] ,then reacted the later compound with two moles of 4-hydroxybenzonitrile to yield nitrile compound [II]. Likewise, reaction 5,5-diethylpyrimidine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione and two moles of ethylchloroacetate with fused sodium acetate in ethanol to create an ester compound [III], and then the later compound was reacted with two moles of hydrazine hydrate in ethanol to obtained hydrazide acid compound [IV]. After that, the compound [IV] reacted with two moles of ethyl acetoacetate in

Phosphorus Removal from Water and Waste Water by Chemical Precipitation Using Alum and Calcium Chloride
...Show More Authors

Phosphorus is usually the limiting nutrient for eutrophication in inland receiving waters; therefore, phosphorus concentrations must be controlled. In the present study, a series of jar test was conducted to evaluate the optimum pH, dosage and performance parameters for coagulants alum and calcium chloride. Phosphorus removal by alum was found to be highly pH dependent with an optimum pH of 5.7-6. At this pH an alum dosage of 80 mg/l removed 83 % of the total phosphorus. Better removal was achieved when the solution was buffered at pH = 6. Phosphorus removal was not affected by varying the slow mixing period; this is due to the fact that the reaction is relatively fast.
The dosage of calcium chloride and pH of solution play an importa

Radiological Assessment and Mechanical Separation of NORM Contaminated Soil from Iraqi Oil Fields
...Show More Authors

Naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) contaminated sites at Al-Rumaila Iraqi oil fields have been characterized as a part of soil remediation project. Activity of radium isotopes in contaminated soil have been determined using gamma spectrometer High Purity Germanium detector (HPGe) and found to be very high for Al-Markezia, Al-Qurainat degassing stations and storage area at Khadhir Almay region. The activity concentration of samples ranges from 6474.11±563.8 Bq/kg to 1232.5±60.9 Bq/kg with mean value of 3853.3 Bq/kg for 226Ra, 843.59±8.39 Bq/kg to 302.2±9.2 Bq/kg  with mean value of 572.9 Bq/kg for 232Th and 294.31±18.56 Bq/kg to 156.64±18.1 Bq/kg with mean value of 225.5 for 40K. Experimental and numerical study of the bulb's location effect on the behavior of under-reamed pile in expansive soil
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>In this experimental and numerical analysis, three varieties of under-reamed piles comprising one bulb were used. The location of the bulb changes from pile to pile, as it is found at the bottom, center, and top of the pile, respectively. PLAXES 3D was used to conduct the research. In expansive soil, the under-reamed piles were 350 mm long, with the pile tip in dense sandy soil. The experiment was carried out in both saturated and unsaturated circumstances. The influence of the bulb location on the pile's bearing capacity for vertical and lateral loads, as well as the amount of swelling pressure and upward movement owing to swelling, was investigated. Effect of several patterns of floating stone columns on the bearing capacity and porewater pressure in saturated soft soil
...Show More Authors

One of the common geotechnical problems is the construction on soft soil and the improvement of its geotechnical properties to meet the design requirements. A stone column is one of the well-known techniques used to improve the geotechnical properties of soft soils. Sometimes thick layers of soft soil imposed the designer to use floating stone columns for improvement of such soil; in this case, the designer will be lost the end bearing of the stone column. In this study, the effects of several patterns of floating stone columns distribution under footing on the bearing capacity of soil and the distribution of excess porewater pressure are investigated. The soft soil used in this study has a very low undrained shear strength (cu) of

Some Properties of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Magnetic Reactive Powder Concrete Containing Nano Silica
...Show More Authors

This study involves the design of 24 mixtures of fiber reinforced magnetic reactive powder concrete containing nano silica. Tap water was used for 12 of these mixtures, while magnetic water was used for the others. The nano silica (NS) with ratios (1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3) % by weight of cement, were used for all the mixtures. The results have shown that the mixture containing 2.5% NS gives the highest compressive strength at age 7 days. Many different other tests were carried out, the results have shown that the carbon fiber reinforced magnetic reactive powder concrete containing 2.5% NS (CFRMRPCCNS) had higher compressive strength, modulus of rupture, splitting tension, str
