Synthesis, characterization, thermal study, and evaluation of mixed ligand complexes of (malonic acid, nicotinic acid, and 2-aminopyridine) with some transition metal ions
...Show More Authors

Six mixed ligand complexes were prepared from malonic acid (MA), nicotinic acid (NA), and 2-aminopyridine (AP) in a (1:1:1:1) molar ratio (M: MA: NA: AP.), using aqueous ethanol as a reaction medium. The prepared compounds were analyzed by flame atomic absorption, (C.H.N.) analysis, and FTIR, UV-Vis, and mass spectroscopy, as well as conductivity measurement and magnetic susceptibility studies. Based on the combined analytical data, the prepared complexes were proposed to adopt an octahedral geometry.   A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection that affects any part of the urinary tract.   The emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and fungi has led to poor patient outcomes and limited treatment options, prompting interest in mixed ligand-metal complexes as potential antimicrobial agents.  Accordingly, this study evaluated the inhibitory activity and effectiveness of the free ligands, metal complexes, and DMSO (as a control) at a concentration of 10-3 mg/mL against clinically isolated UTI (S. aureus, S. epidermidis, E. coli, K. pneumoniae, and C. albicans). The results demonstrated that both the ligands and complexes exhibited varying degrees of activity against the tested. Synthesis, Characterization and Evaluation of Overbased Magnesium Fatty Acids Detergent for Medium Lubricating Oil
...Show More Authors

A series of overbased magnesium fatty acids such as caprylate, caprate, laurate, myristate, palmitate, stearate and oleate) were synthesized by the reaction of the fatty acids with active – 60 magnesium oxide and carbon dioxide (CO2) gas at 60 oC in the presence of ammonia solution as catalyst, toluene / ethanol solvent mixture (9:1vol/vol) was added.
The prepared detergent additives were characterized by FTIR, 1HNMR and evaluated by blending each additive in various concentrations with medium lubricant oil fraction (60 stock) supplied by Iraqi Midland Refineries Company. The total base number (TBN, mg of KOH/g) was determined, and the results of TBN were treated by using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test. It was found that

Corrosion, Passivity and Pitting of Inconel (600) in Sulphuric Acid
...Show More Authors

A potentiostatic study of the behaviour of Inconel (600) in molar sulphuric acid has been carried out over the temperature range 293-313 K. Values have been established for the potentials and current densities of the corrosion, active-passive transition, passivity and transpassive states. For corrosion, the current density (ic) and potential (Ec) have been determined from well-defined Tafel lines. The potential and current density prior to the commencement of passivity have been obtained corresponding respectively to the critical potential (Ecr( and to the current density (icr) for the active-passive transition state. The passive range was defined by the respective potentials and current densities for passive film formation and dissolutio

Characterization of biochar (bio carbon) on the properties of plasticized polylactic acid composites for antistatic packaging
...Show More Authors

A new  light-weight nanocarbon prepared by spray-drying method  to obtain  particle size is 21.7 nm based of polylactic acid biodegradable film in antistatic packaging .Bio carbon (biochar) is  obtained from  plants and soils to naturally absorb and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere . Therefor it has been used to support biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) with to obtain 100% recyclable material.

Using plasticizer thymol of polylactic acid and biochar (bio carbon) as composites were prepared by a solution casting method with (0.5-10)wt% biochar. The composites  characterized by  FTIR, electrical conductivity, mechanical properties , contact angle and Colar and Brightness . Results show th

In this study, Bis(4,4’-diaminophenoxy)ethane (compound C1) was synthesized via the reaction of p-hydroxyaniline with 1,2-dibromoethane. Schiff bases (compounds C2–C4) were subsequently obtained by condensing compound C1 with various aromatic aldehydes. These intermediates were further reacted with different anhydrides – namely phthalic anhydride and maleic anhydride – in order to yield the final derivatives (compounds C5–C10). All obtained compounds were characterized by using infrared spectroscopy and proton nuclear magnetic resonance, as well as through an assessment of their physical properties. Antimicrobial evaluation was conducted on some of the generated compounds using two bacterial strains (Escherichia coli and Staphyloc

Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Evaluation of New Azo Compounds Derived from Sulfonamides and Isatin Schiff Base
...Show More Authors

The present study deals with the synthesis of four different azo-azomethine derivatives; this is done by two steps; the first step is diazotization of sulfonamides (sulfanilamide, sulfacetamide, sulfamethoxazole, and sulfadiazine) separately, followed by the second step; the coupling reaction of diazotized compounds with isatin bis-Schiff base named 3-((4-nitrobenzylidene) hydrazono)indolin-2-one. The later one (bis-Schiff base) was synthesized by the reaction of 3-hydrazono-indolin-2-one with p-nitrobenzaldehyde. The chemical structures of newly synthesized compounds were approved on the basis of their FTIR, 1H-NMR, and CHNS elemental analysis data results. The synthesized azo compounds were tested in vitro for their antimicrobial potentia
