Adsorption of bimetal from aqueous solution on plum seed activated carbon synthesized by pyrocarbonic acid microwave method
...Show More Authors
Abstract
<title>BACKGROUND

This article presents the simultaneous adsorption of bimetal Cu2+ and Zn2+ from an aqueous solution using activated carbon synthesized from a plum seed precursor by sulfuric acid and microwave activation: plum seeds chemically activated by 45% (w/w) sulfuric acid with 2:1 ratio for 4 h, then carbonized for 2 h at 700 °C and the product obtained activated in a microwave oven for 20 min at 700 W for final of activation. Plum seeds and activated carbon produced were characterized in terms of their physical and chemical composition using Brunauer–Emmett–Teller measurements, field emission scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The effects of absorption time, bimetal solution pH, bimetal concentration and dosage of activated carbon on the capacity of adsorption and removal efficiency were studied with Design‐Expert software using response surface methodology with the I‐optimal method for experimental data analysis.

RESULTS

The results showed that the statistical analysis of Cu2+ and Zn2+ removal efficiency followed the quadratic models generated by Design‐Expert software with significant P value (P < 0.0001) and the optimum values of removal efficiencies were 99.9268% for Cu2+ and 99.34% for Zn2+ at an adsorption time of 4.98 h, pH of 7.94, bimetal concentration of 38.467 mg L−1 and adsorbent dose of 1485.294 mg (100 mL)−1. The equilibrium adsorption data were analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models and there was a significant agreement in the results with the Freundlich model with R2 = 0.9841 for Cu2+ and R2 = 0.9927 for Zn2+. Likewise, the data were found to fit with a pseudo‐second‐order model with R2 = 0.9989 for Cu2+ and R2 = 0.9948 for Zn2+ as compared to a pseudo‐first‐order model.

CONCLUSION

Activated carbon synthesized from plum seeds with chemical and microwave activation could be effectively used as an adsorbent for bimetal Cu2+ and Zn2+ in aqueous solution. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry (SCI).

DYE REMOVAL FROM TEXTILE WASTEWATER BY COAGULATION USING ALUM AND PAC
...Show More Authors

Removal of solar brown and direct black dyes by coagulation with two aluminum based
coagulants was conducted. The main objective is to examine the efficiency of these
coagulants in the treatment of dye polluted water discharged from Al-Kadhymia Textile
Company (Baghdad-Iraq). The performance of these coagulants was investigated through
jar test by comparing dye percent removal at different wastewater pH, coagulant dose,
and initial dye concentration. Results show that alum works better than PAC under acidic
media (5-6) and PAC works better under basic media (7-8) in the removal of both solar
brown and direct black dyes. Higher doses of PAC were required to achieve the
maximum removal efficiency under optimum pH co

Comparing Between Shrinkage &Maximum likelihood Method For Estimation Parameters &Reliability Function With 3- Parameter Weibull Distribution By Using Simulation
...Show More Authors

The 3-parameter Weibull distribution is used as a model for failure since this distribution is proper when the failure rate somewhat high in starting operation and these rates will be decreased with increasing time .

In practical side a comparison was made between (Shrinkage and Maximum likelihood) Estimators for parameter and reliability function using simulation , we conclude that the Shrinkage estimators for parameters are better than maximum likelihood estimators but the maximum likelihood estimator for reliability function is the better using statistical measures (MAPE)and (MSE) and for different sample sizes.

Study the Effect of Carbon Fiber Volume Fraction and their Orientations on the Thermal Conductivity of the Polymer Composite Materials.
...Show More Authors

The effect of fiber volume fraction of the carbon fiber on the thermal conductivity of the polymer composite material was studied. Different percentages of carbon fibers were used (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%). Specimens were made in two groups for unsaturated polyester as a matrix and carbon fibers, first group has parallel arrangement of fibers and the second group has perpendicular arrangement of fibers on the thermal flow, Lee's disk method was used for testing the specimens. This study showed that the values of the of thermal conductivity of the specimens when the fibers arranged in parallel direction was higher than that when the fibers arranged in the perpendicular direction

Interaction of Aqueous Cu2+ Ions with Granules of Crushed Concrete
...Show More Authors

The sorption of Cu2+ ions from synthetic wastewater using crushed concrete demolition waste (CCDW) which collected from a demolition site was investigated in a batch sorption system. Factors influencing on sorption process such as shaking time (0-300min), the initial concentration of contaminant (100-750mg/L), shaking speed (0-250 rpm), and adsorbent dosage (0.05-3 g/ml) have been studied. Batch experiments confirmed that the best values of these parameters were (180 min, 100 mg/l, 250 rpm, 0.7 g CCDW/100 ml) respectively where the achieved removal efficiency is equal to 100%. Sorption data were described using four isotherm models (Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson, and Radke-Prausnitz). Results proved that the pure ads

Direct Amplification of B1 gene of Toxoplasma gondii DNA using Nested Polymerase Chain Reaction Following Microwave Treatment for Whole Blood Samples
...Show More Authors

Infection with Toxoplasma gondii is a cause of fetal death since T. gondii can be transmitted to the fetus through the placenta (transplacental) from an infected mother or at vaginal delivery. Blood obtained from women and sheep to confirm their infection with toxoplasmosis by using Enzyme Linked Immunosorbant Assay test (ELISA) to ditective positive specific anti-Toxoplasma (IgM, IgG and IgM, or IgG) antibodies. This study used two methodes to extract DNA (the first one was a standard extraction commercial method (CM-PCR) of genomic DNA using a commercial kit (Promega, USA), and the second one was the direct heat DNA extraction using microwave oven (MW-PCR) for whole blood samples obtained from infected women and sheep. This study was carried out at Poultry Research Station, State Board of Agricultural Research, Ministry of Agriculture for the period from 27 September 2014 to 9 November 2014 to evaluate the Supplementation of different levels of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) on productive performance of broiler. Four hundred eighty chicks (Ross-308),one day old were randomly distributed to four dietary treatments for 42 days of age with 3 replicates/vtreatment (40 bird/replicate). Experimental treatments were as follow; T1 (Control diet) without supplement, while the treatment T2,T3 and T4  were Supplemented with 1, 1.5, 2 g CLA /kg diet  respectively. The results showed significant (P ≤ 0.05) increased in mean of body weight, weight gain, ave
