Waste-derived chitosan-functionalized poultry litter biochar as a sustainable adsorbent for congo red removal from wastewater
...Show More Authors

The increasing discharge of dye-containing wastewater has become a serious environmental problem, requiring efficient and sustainable treatment technologies. In this study, poultry litter–derived biochar (BC) was prepared via pyrolysis at 550 °C and subsequently modified with chitosan to produce a composite adsorbent (BC/CS) for the removal of Congo Red (CR) from aqueous solutions. The materials were characterized using SEM, BET, XRD, FTIR, and XPS analyses. BET results showed that chitosan modification slightly decreased the specific surface area from 8.28 to 8.18 m²/g and pore volume from 0.035 to 0.030 cm³ /g, while introducing abundant amine and hydroxyl functional groups on the surface. Maximum adsorption occurred at pH 3, with equilibrium achieved within 35 min. The BC/CS composite exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity of 35.36 mg/g, which is approximately two times higher than that of raw BC (17.83 mg/g). Adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order model (R² > 0.999), indicating that the adsorption process may involve chemical interactions, while equilibrium data were well described by the Langmuir isotherm model (R² > 0.99), suggesting monolayer adsorption. In competitive adsorption experiments involving CR, MB, MR, and MO dyes, the CR adsorption capacity decreased by only 7.5% for BC/CS, indicating good selectivity. Furthermore, regeneration studies showed that BC/CS retained approximately 86% of its initial adsorption capacity after six adsorption–desorption cycles. These results demonstrate that chitosan-modified poultry litter biochar is an effective, low-cost, and sustainable adsorbent for the removal of anionic dyes from wastewater.

Detecting the antibacterial activity of green synthesized silver (Ag) nanoparticles functionalized with ampicillin (Amp)
...Show More Authors

In the current study, synthesis and characterization of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) before and after functionalization with ampicillin antibiotic and their application as anti-pathogenic agents towards bacteria were investigated. AgNPs were synthesized by a green method from AgNO3 solution with glucose subjected to microwave radiation. Characterization of the nanoparticles was conducted using UV-Vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), zeta potential determination and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. From SEM analysis, the typical silver nanoparticle particle size was found to be 30 nm and Zeta potential measurements gave information about particle stability. Analysis of FTIR patterns and UV-VIS spectroscopy con

Artificial Neural Network Model for Wastewater Projects Maintenance Management Plan
...Show More Authors

Wastewater projects are one of the most important infrastructure projects, which require developing strategic plans to manage these projects. Most of the wastewater projects in Iraq don’t have a maintenance plan. This research aims to prepare the maintenance management plan (MMP) for wastewater projects. The objective of the research is to predict the cost and time of maintenance projects by building a model using ANN. The research sample included (15) completed projects in Wasit Governorate, where the researcher was able to obtain the data of these projects through the historical information of the Wasit Sewage Directorate. In this research artificial neural networks (ANN) technique was used to build two models (cost

Synthesis , Spectroscopic and Antibacterial Studies of Zinc(II) Complexes Derived from Salicylaldehyde, Leucylalanine and Glycylglycine
...Show More Authors

Two Schiff base ligands L1 and L2 have been obtained by condensation of salicylaldehyde respectively with leucylalanine and glycylglycine then their complexes with Zn(II)were prepared and characterized by elemental analyses , conductivity measurement , IR and UV-Vis .The molar conductance measurement indicated that the Zn(II) complexes are 1:1 non-electrolytes. The IR data demonstrated that the tetradentate binding of the ligands L1 and L2 . The in vitro biological screening effect of the investigated compounds have been tested against the bacterial species Staphlococcus aureus, Escherichia coil , Klebsiella pneumaniae, Proteus vulgaris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa by the disc diffusion method . New Metal Complexes Derived from Heterocyclic Schiff-base Ligand; Preparation, Structural Investigation and Biological Activity
...Show More Authors

The formation of a Schiff-base with N2O2 donor atoms derived from the hydrazine segment and its metal complexes are reported. The Schiff-base ligand; N’-((1R,2S,4R,5S,Z)-2,4-diphenyl-3-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-9-ylidene)furan-2-carbohydrazide (HL) was prepared from the reaction of furan-2-carbohydrazide with (1R, 2R, 4R, 5S)-2,4-diphenyl-3-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-9-one (M1) in ethanol medium. The reaction of the title ligand with selected metal ions Cr(III), Mn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) gave complexes with the general formula [M(L)Cl2], (where: M = Cr(III), Mn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II)). ...Show More Authors

Amoxicillin 1 was treated with thiosemicarbazide and Phosphoryl chloride to obtain a new derivatives that contains 1,3,4-thiadiazole moiety 2. Schiff bases compounds were synthesized by the reaction of compound 2 with different aldehydes such as benzaldehyde and some substituted Benzaldehyde; p-hydroy, p-Chloro, p-Nitro, p-Dimethylamino, p-Methyl, p-Methoxy, p-Ethoxy to give compounds 3a-h. The obtained compounds have tested towards gram -ve and gram +ve bacteria. The compound shows good to moderate result towards the bacteria.
