This review aims to evaluate the intellectual and literary role of Yosef Chaim Brenner in reshaping the concept of identity in modern Hebrew literature, and draws a map of his period from the late 1890s to the period between the two world wars, when his articles, stories and memoirs contributed to the development of the Hebrew language as a creative and political medium in Palestine/Israel. The Ottoman Empire and the British Mandate rule (circa 1921-1895), and this review sheds light on narrative techniques, linguistic innovation, cultural differences and the modernist movement in Hebrew literature, and the conflict between religion and modernity touched upon in his literary works.
