The objective of this study is to evaluate the bacterial count and heavy metal concentration of river water on fish micronuclei. Fish and water samples are carried out in 1 May to 1 June 2013 from Tigris River. A total of fifty three fish sample are studied. The bacteriological quality of water showed that the total viable count is ranged from 150×103 to 352×103 cfu/ml and fecal coliform counts was 1250 cell/100ml during the study period. All the metals (Cu, Hg, Pb, and Zn) are within the normal limit, but Cd was slightly elevated in river water samples. Sediments samples from ten stations along the Euphrates River and seven
samples from selected springs within Al –Anbar governorate, (western part of Iraq),
were collected and analyzed for radioactivity. Sediments samples were dried at 100
ºC for 24 hours. Radioactivity in 1 kg of each sample was measured using gamma
spectrometer system based on a pure germanium detector with efficiency 30%. The
activity of Ra-226, Th-232, K-40 were measured to be within the typical average of
the radioactivity in sediment in world rivers, while relatively elevated concentration

Two isolates of Staphylococcus xylosus (urease producer and non urease producer) were injected in mice at a dose of 2 × 108 colony-forming units (CFU) intraurethrally. Results showed that both isolates were able to colonize kidney and bladder of the injected mice, regardless of their urease production. Moreover, there were insignificant differences between the two groups. These results emphasized the pathogenicity of this bacteria in UTI.
