Bioethanol produced from lignocellulose feedstock is a renewable substitute to declining fossil fuels. Pretreatment using ultrasound assisted alkaline was investigated to enhance the enzyme digestibility of waste paper. The pretreatment was conducted over a wide range of conditions including waste paper concentrations of 1-5%, reaction time of 10-30 min and temperatures of 30-70°C. The optimum conditions were 4 % substrate loading with 25 min treatment time at 60°C where maximum reducing sugar obtained was 1.89 g/L. This study analyzes the presence of antibiotics in potable water from two treatment plants in Baghdad City. The collected samples were separated using a solid-phase extraction method with hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) cartridge before being analyzed.      In the present work, the possibility of treating many types of radioactive sources was examined practically. Six types of sealed radioactive sources were selected: ¹³⁷Cs, ¹³³Ba, ⁹⁰Sr, ¹⁵²Eu, ²²⁶Ra, and ²⁴¹Am. The sources were exposed to a neutron flux emitted from ²⁴¹Am/Be source for 33 days. The results showed a measurable reduction of activity for ²²⁶Ra, ²⁴¹Am, and ¹⁵²Eu, while the other radionuclides, ¹³⁷Cs, ¹³³Ba, and ⁹⁰Sr, showed less response to neutron incineration.

Sewage sludge samples were collected from Al-rasafa and Al-karkh refinement stations which represent the main stations of Baghdad city. Samples were collected from all treatment stages: before, after, and during refinement processes. Interleukin-38 (IL-38), an inflammatory cytokine discovered in recent years, has been implicated in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
