The present study includs the isolation and identification of Keratinophilic fungi in fresh water samples collected from Tigris river in Baghdad, Iraq. Samples were collected from different districts of Baghdad (Al-Rustumia, Madina Al-Teb, Al-Azamia, Al-Kadimia, Al-Dorha and Al-Kanah). The water samples were examined for keratinophilic fungi by the plating method culturing and Hair Baiting Technique. This study was conducted on the workers of the brick kilns at Al- Nahrawan area south-east of Baghdad city to investigate the effect of the pollutant emissions (fumes and gases) released from the burned fuel in this kiln. Blood samples were taken from group individuals of workers at this brick kilns and non-working individuals as a control. The influence of these emissions on the workers' health was measured by examining certain chromosomal aberrations among the workers. These aberrations were a formation of: chromosomal rings, dicentric chromosomes, breaks arm and acentric fragments. This study. was done on three hundred mothers who has a child less than 5 year old in ALNahryn University Teaching Hospital for the period of three months 1-1-2001 to 31-3-2001.
The study showed that 48% were Breast-feeding, 11% Bottlefeeding, & 41% Mixed breast and bottle-feeding. The family plays a major role (97.2%) in deciding the type of feeding
and the doctor role was only 2% in that regard and 21.2% in advice for artificial feeding. The study also showed that there is a decline in breast feeding among -the three generations
