Literary texts do not usually reflect English as a means of communication. The failure to read literary texts becomes the central concern in the study of language learning and teaching. Literary texts may lead adult readers to an ambiguous understanding due to having multiple interpretations. The current study aims at finding out the effect of the dialogic reading technique within teaching method on Iraqi EFL university learners according to the dimensions of literacy skills: operational, cultural, and critical and according to tasks of story comprehension: knowledge graph construction, fact-retrieval, and prompt formulation. A pretest-posttest design with control group of quasi-experimental study method to fulfill the objectives of this study. The sample involves 120 undergraduate students at the College of Education for Women/ University of Baghdad. The overall study experiment lasts for fourteen weeks during the academic year 2024-2025. Achievement posttest is used as an instrument for measuring the performance of Iraqi EFL university learners. The results confirm statistical rejection to differences between the mean scores of the experimental group in the dimensions of literacy skills. The study concludes that the dialogic reading technique effects Iraqi EFL university learners' cultural dimension of literacy skills and fact-retrieval task of story comprehension. The study suggests that selection of text materials of different stances could improve learners' awareness and writing performance skills.
The purpose of this study is to examine the moderating role of business environment on the relationship between Entrepreneurial Skills (ES) and business performance of Small Business (SB) in Iraq, Baghdad. This study aims to resolve the inconsistencies found in the contemporary literature regarding the relationship between ES and business performance. Questionnaire using a 5-point Likert scale was adopted from previous work to ascertain the responses of the respondents. Survey research design was adopted, and self-administered questionnaires were used to collect the data from small business owners in 9 districts in Baghdad the capital of Iraq. The analysis was conducted using SPSS version 23.0. The direct relationship and hierarchical regre

Show MorePresupposition is the background belief that is known by both the speaker and the addressee, it is tied to particular words and aspects of the surface structure that act as linguistic triggers. The present study aims at investigating whether Iraqi fourth -year university students are able to recognize the English presuppositions through the meaning of these linguistic triggers .To fulfil the basic requirements of the study, the researcher has conducted a test . The results of the study have validated the hypothesis of the work and it is found that the linguistic triggers are important tools in recognizing presuppositions.

... Show MoreLiterature on the use of the first-person pronoun in abstracts and conclusion sections of final-year projects is limited. In case of Algerian Master students, it is too scant. The present paper aims at filling this gap through a study concerned with students’ and engagement in their final projects (memoirs). This quantitative study examines the use of “we” and its various types, “our- us-I, my, the researcher” in memoirs chosen at random from the d-space portal of the University of Adrar, southern Algeria. Sixty-five papers, submitted in the fields of Linguistics or didactics between 2015 and 2020 and representing nearly half of the whole memoirs’ depository at the library’s d-space, constituted the corpus of study. The des

In earthquake engineering problems, uncertainty exists not only in the seismic excitations but also in the structure's parameters. This study investigates the influence of structural geometry, elastic modulus, mass density, and section dimension uncertainty on the stochastic earthquake response of a multi-story moment resisting frame subjected to random ground motion. The North-south component of the Ali Gharbi earthquake in 2012, Iraq, is selected as ground excitation. Using the power spectral density function (PSD), the two-dimensional finite element model of the moment resisting frame's base motion is modified to account for random ground motion. The probabilistic study of the moment resisting frame structure using stochastic fin
... Show Morehis research aims to identify fear of missing out on opportunities among university students in terms of gender and specialization (scientific and humanities). To achieve this objective, the researchers adopted the fear of missing out on opportunities scale developed by Subhi Hamid and Issa Al-Daghistani(2023). The scale, in its final form, consisted of 10 items. The researchers confirmed the psychometric properties of the scale. Then, it was administered to 140 male and female students selected using stratified random sampling from four colleges at the University of Baghdad (College of Arts, College of Education, College of Engineering, and College of Science) during the 2024-2025 academic year

The waist circumference cutoff point fluctuation has so far defined Mets. Objective: This study aimed to determine the cutoff point for WC in healthy Iraqi adults. Methods: This cross-sectional survey establishes the standard value for WC among 300 healthy university students in Wasit city, Iraq. They are aged between 18-25 years. The receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve was used WC to predict the presence of two or more risk factors for MetS, as defined by IDF. Results: The cutoff level yielding maximum sensitivity and specificity for predicting the presence of multiple risk factors was
