This study has three parts, the first one is the synthesis of a novel Schiff bases by the condensation of guanine or 9-[{2-hydroxyethoxy}methyl]-9H-guanine with variety aldehydes to yield four different bases as follows: (E)-2-((4-nitrobenzylidene)amino)-1,9-dihydro-6H-purin-6-one (S1), (E)-2-((4-methoxybenzylidene)amino)-1,9-dihydro-6H-purin-6-one (S2), (E)-2-((2-hydroxybenzylidene) amino)-9-((2-hydroxy ethoxy)methyl)-1,9-dihydro-6H-purin-6-one (S3), and (E)-2-(((9-((2-hydroxy ethoxy)methyl)-6-oxo-6,9-dihydro-1H-purin-2-yl)imino)methyl)benzoic acid (S4). This paper proposes the reliability and failure probability functions for both linearly and circularly m-consecutive-k-out-of-n: F systems. More precisely, the failure states of the system components are separated into two collections (the working and the failure collections); where each one is defined as a collection of finite mutual disjoint classes of the system states. BACKGROUND: HLA-B27 can effect clinical presentation and course of ankylosing spondylitis. Different detection techniques of HLA-B27 are available with variable sensitivities and specificities. OBJECTIVE: To compare serologic and molecular diagnostic techniques of detecting HLA-B27 status and to correlate it with some clinical variables among ankylosing spondylitis patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 83 Iraqi patients with ankylosing spondylitis. Clinical and laboratory evaluations were reported. HLA-B27 status was determined in all patients by real-time PCR using HLA-B27 RealFast™ kit; ELISA method was used as well to detect soluble serum HLA-B27 antigens using Human Leukocyte Antigen® kit.
