إن أهميـة بحثنـا تتضـح مـن خـلال التطـرق إلى دراسـة المـذهب العسـكري في حقبـة الاتحـاد السـوفيتي السـابق وإبـراز الجوانـب الرئيسـة المتعلقـة بفلسـفة المـذهب العسـكري السـوفيتي ومضـامينه الاستراتيجية مــن جانــب، وفلســفة المــذهب العســكري الروســي لمرحلــة مــا بعــد الحــرب البــاردة والتغـيرات المهمـة الـتي طـرأت عليـه، ممـا أفـرز لنـا بطبيعـة الحـال مضـامين مـذهب عسـكري روسـي جديــد قــد يتقــارب أو يتقــاطع مــع المــذهب العســكري الســوفيتي في بعــض الــرؤى والتصــورات الاستراتيجية، لاســيما إن التغــيرات والتبــدلات الاستراتيجية الــتي طــرأت علــى المبــادئ الرئيســة للمذهب العسكري السوفيتي لمرحلة مـا بعـد الحـرب البـاردة وإسقاطاتها الموضـوعية أسـهمت في تشكيل منظومة انساق فكرية متكاملة لمذهب عسكري روسي جديد أسهم في تعزيز المدركات الاستراتيجية لصانع القرار الروسي حيال توسيع حزمة من الخيارات الاستراتيجية للدفاع عن روسيا ً واقتصـاديا في حـل المشـكلات الإقليميـة ومصـالحها المسـتقبلية عـبر تنشـيط الـدور الروسـي سياسـيا والدولية التي تواجه الأمن القومي الروسي في القرن الحادي والعشرين، أي بمعنى هل أن استراتيجية المذهب العسكري الروسي لمرحلة ما بعـد الحـرب البـاردة ستفضـي إلى بلـورة مفـاهيم ومبـادئ فاعلـة وبديلـة عـن المـذهب العسـكري السـوفيتي، مـن ناحيـة اسـتعادة روسـيا لمكانتهـا الدوليـة والإقليميـة وتشكيل منظومة عالم متعدد الأقطاب.
لظهور كثير من الاراء التفسيرية والنقدية والتي تباينت في كثير من الاحيان وبخاصة من المفسرين والمستشرقين لاختلاف المشارب الفكرية لكلا الفريقين وهو ما تطلب تاصيلا لعملية النقد والمقارنة بين المنهجين
