Acromegaly has been associated with several metabolic health conditions that can increase risks of death and illness. These include heart disease, diabetes, and problems with how the body regulates insulin levels. Multiple studies have found that people living with acromegaly are two to four times more likely to pass away than others of the same age and sex in the general population. Research also suggests a link between acromegaly and higher levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the body. MDA is a byproduct formed during natural processes like prostaglandin and lipid peroxidation production that is able to damage genes and has been connected to cancer development. The transmembrane protein known as soluble a-Klotho (SAKL) is named after a Greek deity. Numerous age-related illnesses, including osteoporosis, pulmonary emphysema, skin shrinkage, and atherosclerosis, have been shown to affect α -Klotho-deficient mice. Sixty subjects (30 males and 30 female) Mean ± SD was (53.2±10.5). diagnosed with acromegaly and 30 (15 males and 15 female) healthy group Mean ±SD was (52.1±13.5). the age range between (30-60) years. Laboratory measurement including serum Insulin like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), Growth hormone (GH) Fasting serum glucose (FSG), lipid profile (Total Cholesterol (TC), Triglyceride (TG), High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), Very Low-Density Lipoprotein (VLDL)), Soluble a-Klotho (SAKL), Malondialdehyde (MDA). The results showed significantly higher P ≤ 0.01 IGF1, GH, FSG, TC, TG, LDL, VLDL, SAKL, and MDA levels in patients’ group Compared to healthy group. In patients’ group SAKL had a positive significant correlation with HDL, and negative significant correlation (P ˂ 0.01) with LDL, on the other hand, there was a substantial relationship P ˂ 0.01 between (TC, TG, and LDL) with MDA. The research findings suggest that levels of SAKL and MDA are increased in patients with acromegaly, potentially serving as novel biomarkers for assessing active acromegaly. The measurement of SAKL and MDA could prove valuable, particularly in cases where GH and IGF-I results are inconclusive or conflicting
This study included estimation of glutathione (GSH) and Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in the serum of diabetic patients type II who are treated with a polyherbs mixture (Nigella sativa, Trigonella foenum-graeum, Cyperus rotundus and Teucrium polium) for three months of treatments. Seventy samples of diabetic patients Type II male and females with age about (35-60) years were taken including 44 samples for group one (24 male, 20 female) who used herbs accompanied with chemical treatment (drugs) and 26 samples for the second group (13male and 13 female) who used herbs only. These groups were compared with 60 samples obtained from healthy persons (29 male, 31 female) at the same age of patients as a control group. Effect of age and treatment fo

Many intracellular enzymes like (alkaline phosphatase- (ALP), aspartate aminotransferase- (AST) and alanine aminotransferase- (ALT) that are released outside cells into the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and saliva after destruction of periodontal tissue during periodontitis. This study was conducted to determine the periodontal health status and the levels of salivary enzymes (ALP, AST and ALT) of the study and control groups and to correlate the levels of these enzymes with clinical periodontal parameters in each study group. Subjects, Materials and Methods: One hundred subjects were enrolled in the study, with a

The prevalence of hematinic deficiencies including ferritin and vitamin B12 deficiencies and their role in the prophylaxis and development of RAS is not well known. Many studies have demonstrated a high prevalence of hematinic deficiencies in patients with RAS. This study aimed to compare the serum level of ferritin and vitamin B12 in patients with recurrent aphthous ulcers and healthy controls. Subjects, Materials and Methods: The data were collected from patients who needed blood analysis to exclude anemia from November 2020 to May 2021. The study was approved by the institutional ethics committee. After recordi

The distinction between these two types of anaemia has always been challenging requiring sophisticated techniques. Serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) a truncated soluble form of the transferrin receptor is one of the parameters that is influenced by the Iron content and supply to the erythrons and is not affected by inflammatory status and therefore the use of the sTfR/log ferritin (sTfR-F) index can be a reliable indicator of functional iron deficiency.
Background: Preeclampsia (PE) is a major cause of maternal morbidity and mortality, complicating 3-14% of all pregnancies. Although the etiology remains unknown, placental hypoperfusion and diffuse endothelial cell injury are considered to be the central pathological process; many endocrinological changes have been linked to the etiology of preeclampsia including parathyroid hormone and calcium level. Objective: to compare serum parathyroid hormone and total serum calcium levels in mild and severe preeclampsia versus normal pregnancy. Patients and methods: Serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) level and total serum calcium level were measured in thirty normotensive pregnant women and thirty women with mild preeclampsia and thi

Researchers have been prompted to explore new biomarkers such as KIM-1 and nephrin that may enhance the identification of disease. Objective: To Evaluate biomarker levels of kidney injury molculre-1 (KIM-1) concentration and nephrin as early and sensitive markers of nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients. Method: One hundred T2DM patients were included in a cross-sectional study at the specialized center for endocrinology and diabetes, Baghdad. The first group includes 50 diabetic nephropathy (DN) patients, and the second group includes 50 T2DM patients without DN. Biochemical and clinical parameters were reported for pa

The present study aims to measure the quantity of PCSK9 gene expression and the effect of methylation on its expression level taking part in the pathogenesis of acute coronary artery disorder.
A current study included 150 subjects from the Iraqi population, 100 ASCAD patients and 50 healthy controls. The concentration of PCSK9 in each serum sample was determined by the ELISA technique, the expression levels of the PCSK9 gene in whole blood were estimated by RT-qPCR – Quantitative Reverse Transcription PCR method, and DNA

Aim of the present study was to determine the levels of GLP-1 and GPCR in non- diabetic dyslipidaemic patients and compare the results with the control group, which may be used as a novel biomarker to predict heart disease in these patients. The study was also aimed to find the relationship between GLP-1 and GPCR with lipid profile and glucagon in the patient group. The study involved 90 non-diabetic dyslipidaemia patients, with 90 healthy controls. The subjects wer
