Synthesis of New Heterocyclic Compounds Derived from Anthrone and Evaluation of Their Biological Activity
...Show More Authors

In this research, Schiff bases derived from the reaction of anthrone with different heterocyclic amines have been described. The resulted Schiff base compounds were reacted with various nucleophiles in order to obtain new heterocyclic derivatives. Chemical structures of all products were confirmed by IR, 1H-, 13C-NMR spectral data and elemental analysis. All synthesized compounds were in vitro tested against a standard strain of pathogenic microorganism including Gram +ve bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus), Gram –ve bacteria (Escherichia coli), and fungi (Candida albicans).

Removal Interferences with Spectrophotometric Study for the Determination of Chromium, Vanadium and Their Application
...Show More Authors

The species of Cr (III), Cr (VI) in biological samples and V(IV), V(V) in foods & plants samples were determined by spectrophotometric methods. Integrated spectral studies of complexes [Cr (III, VI)-DPC], [Cr (VI)-bipy], [VO-SH], [V (V)-8-HQ] which included a study of the optimum conditions for the complexes formation by the investigation of the chemical and physical variables affecting each complex formation, the nature of complexes, the preparation of calibration curves of the complexes and treated the resulted data by modern statistical methods and study the interfering species. Interferences were removed to explain the reactions thermodynamically by determining Eï‚°cell, Keq. and ∆G values and includes a study of

BIOSYNTHESIS OF SILVER NANOPARTICLES USING MINTS LEAF EXTRACT AND EVALUATION OF THEIR ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY
...Show More Authors

The aim of this study is to synthesize an easy, non-toxic and eco-friendly method. Silver nanoparticles which were synthesized by leaf extract of mint were characterized by UV-Visible Spectroscopy which appears UVVisible spectrum of demonstrated a peak 448 nm corresponding to surface Plasmon resonance of silver nanoparticles, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR); functional groups involved in the silver nanoparticles synthesis were identified, the presence of silver nanoparticles was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) analysis clearly illustrated that the shape of silver nanoparticles was spherical and the size of the silver nanoparticles has been measured as 55- 85 nm. Evaluation of its antimic

COMPARISON OF TWO TYPES OF SENSORS AND THEIR EFFECT ON SPRAY QUALITY PEAR TREES
...Show More Authors

This study was aimed to reduce the amount of the sprayed solution lost during trees spraying.  At the same time, the concentration of the sprayed solution on the target (tree or bush) must be ensured and to find the best combination of treatments. Two factors controls the spraying process: (i) spraying speed (1.2 km/h, 2.4 km/h, 3.6 km/h), and (ii) the type of sensor. The test results showed a significant loss reduction percentage. It reached (6.05%, 5.39% and 2.05%) at the speed (1.2 km/h, 2.4 km/h, 3.6 km/h), respectively. It was noticed that when the speed becomes higher the loss becomes less accordingly. The interaction between the 3.6 km/h speed and the type of Ultrasonic sensor led to a decrease in the percentage of the spray

Evaluation of Anemia among Lactating Mothers and their Children Under Two Years of Age
...Show More Authors

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate anemia among lactating women and their children less than 2 years of
age.
Methodology: The study was done on (148) lactating mothers and their children under 2 years of age in the primary
health care center at AL-Salam Quarter/Baghdad from l/10/2009 to 15/10/2010.
Result: This study recommends that there is a significant relationship between anemic mothers and their children. The
study also revealed that there is (77.8%) from nursing mothers in the age groups (25-29) who suffered from anemia,
while (23.1%) for the age group (20-24) did not have anemia
Recommendation: We encourage the use of breast milk or iron-fortified infant formula only for any milk-based part

Synthesis and Identification of Some Imino Chalcone Derivatives with Evaluating their Anti-oxidant Activity
...Show More Authors

This work involves the preparation of high yield iminochalcon compounds (B1-B15)  through two parts. The first part involves the preparation of 2,4-dihydroxy Chalcone (A1-A15) by the condensation of 2,4-dihydroxy acetophenone  with  aryl aldehyde in the presence of sodium hydroxide (40%) as a catalyst. The second part includes the preparation of  iminochalcon from the condensation of p-hydroxy aniline with 2,4-dihydroxy chalcone  derivatives  )A1-A15)  in the presence of some drops of conc. H2SO4. Thin-layer chromatography ((TLC)  was used to control the chemical reaction . These new derivatives were characterized by using FT-IR and  1H-NMR spectroscopy. These synthesized

Preparation of Unsaturated Polyester Nanocomposites and Studying Their Mechanical Properties Using some Inorganic Additives
...Show More Authors

In this study three inorganic nano additives, namely; CaCO3, Al2O3 and SiO2 were used to prepare nanocomposites of unsaturated polyester in order to modify their mechanical properties, i.e. tensile strength, elongation, impact and hardness. The results indicated that all the three additives were effective to improve the mechanical properties up to 4% by weight. The effectiveness of them follows the order : CaCO3 > Al2O3 > SiO2 This is due to their particle size in which CaCO3 (13nm), Al2O3 (20-30nm) and SiO2 (15-20nm).
