Does anchorage loss differ with 0.018-inch and 0.022-inch slot bracket systems?
...Show More Authors
ABSTRACT
<title>Objectives:

To compare maxillary first molar anchorage loss between 0.018-inch and 0.022-inch slot fixed appliance systems.

Materials and Methods:

Patients requiring bilateral maxillary premolar extractions (n = 74) within a randomized clinical trial comparing the effectiveness of 0.018-inch and 0.022-inch slot MBT bracket systems (3M-Unitek, Monrovia, Calif) were included. Three-dimensional pre- and posttreatment digital models were landmarked and measured (R700 scanner and OrthoAnalyzer software, 3Shape, Copenhagen, Denmark). Anteroposterior position of the first molars was measured using the third medial rugae point as a reference. Anchorage loss (AL) represented the subtraction of the posttreatment distance from the pretreatment distance for both anchorage loss right (ALR) and left (ALL) sides. The values were then compared using a two-way analysis of variance.

Results:

There were 41 and 33 cases for the 0.018-inch and 0.022-inch bracket slot systems, respectively. The baseline characteristics were similar between groups, except for the presence or absence of anchorage devices ( P = .050). For the total sample: 0.018-inch ALR = 3.86 mm, ALL = 3.30 mm and 0.022-inch ALR = 3.73 mm, ALL = 3.47 mm ( P = .970). There was also no significant difference between the 0.018-inch and 0.022-inch groups when subjects with anchorage devices were excluded ( P = .383).

Conclusions:

Bracket slot size does not influence maxillary molar anchorage loss during orthodontic treatment.

Loss Reduction and prevention programs
...Show More Authors

The risks are considered as a large challenge facing the human communities. This challenge creates an economic and social burden which obstruct the community progress and influences on its evaluation in a negative way. In the last years, these risks began to increase and now it is necessary to face these risks in a regular and instructive methods in order to control over these risks and to limit its effects and reducing the losses, if it happened. The loss reduction and prevention programs produced by risks management are considered as a successful solution which enable to control these risks. These programs would not finish the danger in the community in a final way but it produces a practical solution reduces the negative effects and c

How does media coverage affect a COVID-19 pandemic model with direct and indirect transmission?
...Show More Authors

In this paper, a compartmental differential epidemic model of COVID-19 pandemic transmission is constructed and analyzed that accounts for the effects of media coverage. The model can be categorized into eight distinct divisions: susceptible individuals, exposed individuals, quarantine class, infected individuals, isolated class, infectious material in the environment, media coverage, and recovered individuals. The qualitative analysis of the model indicates that the disease-free equilibrium point is asymptotically stable when the basic reproduction number R0 is less than one. Conversely, the endemic equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable when R0 is bigger than one. In addition, a sensitivity analysis is conducted to determine which

Does Parkinson’s disease affect sleep quality?
...Show More Authors

Background Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease that is linked to several motor and nonmotor symptoms, including sleep disturbances. Patient quality of life has been shown to be disproportionally impacted by disease. Objectives To investigate sleep quality among individuals with PD, and to assess the severity of sleep disturbances and their impact on daytime activities. Subjects and methods A case‒control with 44 patients with Parkinson’s disease and 80 apparently healthy control participants was recruited from several hospitals and clinics. Each participant provided a thorough medical history and underwent a physical examination, and a questionnaire comprising the standard PSQI was used to assess sleep qua

In vitro assessment of bracket adhesion post enamel conditioning with a novel etchant paste
...Show More Authors

Background: 37% phosphoric acid (PA) is the traditional enamel etching technique prior to bracket ‎adhesion, yet it has been implicated in numerous enamel injuries. The purpose of the current study was to create a calcium phosphate (CaP) etching paste in a ‎‎simplified capsule ‎formula that can underpin clinically ‎adequate bracket bond strength ‎without jeopardizing the ‎integrity of enamel upon ‎the debracketing procedure. Materials and Methods: micro-sized hydroxyapatite (HA) powder was mixed with 40% PA solution to prepare ‎experimental acidic CaP paste. Sixty human premolars were ‎assigned into two groups of 30 each. ‎Enamel conditioning was accomplished using 37% PA-gel‎ for control group and CaP paste for e

Background: The present study aimed to determine the influence of the different types of mouth wash on discoloration of different orthodontic ceramic, sapphire brackets and adhesives. Materials and methods: The sample composed of 120 ceramic brackets and 120 sapphire brackets, the brackets were divided according to bond material into three groups of 40 brackets include unbounded brackets, chemically cured (no-mix) bonded brackets and Light cured bonded brackets all these groups were further subdivided according to mouth wash type into three groups with 10 brackets each which include; Listerine, cetrimide, chlorhexidine 0.2%, and one control group which immersed in artificial saliva; then Staining measurements were performed with UV-Visibl
