Background: With the increasing trends of global culinary boom and food revolution, and since adolescents are one of the most important age groups that intereact actively with new emerging waves, the health impacts of overweight adolescent pregnancy could be an evolving issue. Additionally, prematurity has different risks of disease and fatality in different areas and nations. Objectives: We aimed to measure the prevalence of complications of prematurity in 1000 neonates in Baghdad city born to overweight adolescent mothers and general maternal characteristics. Methods: Data of 1000 premature (case) and full-term (control) neonates were collected from hospital records in Baghdad over 12 years. The mothers of our samples were overweight and adolescents. Results: In premature neonatal group, mean adolescent maternal age was 18.2±1.6 years and mean maternal body mass index was 26.8±4.3 kg/m2. Cesarean delivery was the main mode with 648 women (64.8%) while it appeared significantly less in full-term group (52.6%). In premature group, mean gestational age (weeks) was 33.41±2.76, and mean birth weight (g) was 1426.58±294.12. Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) was the major neonatal complication (n=786, 78.6%), followed by sepsis (n=199, 19.9%). Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) came after (n=113, 11.3%), then patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) appeared (n=66, 6.6%), and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) had the least prevalence rate (n=35, 3.5%). Death affected 47 neonates (4.7%). Conclusion: As for premature delivery in Baghdad, overweight adolescent pregnant women had higher CS rates compared to normal delivery. Regarding complications of the premature neonates, RDS had the greatest frequency followed by sepsis, IVH, PAD, and NCE, respectively.
Abstract Objectives: to determine efficiency and safety of three misoprostol regimens for 2nd trimester pregnancy termination in individuals with two or more cesarean section scars. Methods: a cross-sectional study included 100 pregnant ladies at 13th-26th weeks gestation with previous two cesarean sections (CSs) who were scheduled for pregnancy termination using misoprostol. Patients were conveniently assigned to 100µg/3h, 200µg/3h or 400 µg/3h regimens. Primary outcome was time to abortion, secondary outcomes were side effect and complications. Results: a significant association was found between number previous CSs and longer time to abortion (p=0.01). A highly significant association was identified between earlier gestatio

The aim of the study is to evaluate the frequency of occurrence of dental anomalies among dental student. Materials and Methods: Three hundred dental students with age ranged (18-23 years) were examined clinically and radiographically searching for dental anomalies in shape, number and position. Results: Only 25 students (8.3 %) from the total sample (300) had dental anomalies, female form the higher percentage of anomalies (about 68%) compared to male (32%). The age group (22 years) which was the larger group had a higher

Unfortunately, Iraqi governorates suffer from higher rates of traffic accident casualties compared with the rates of casualties from terrorist attacks; this situation reveals a serious and growing problem. Road traffic accidents are not easy to eradicate. However, their prevalence can be reduced to the barest minimum via periodic assessments of traffic accident characteristics and the most important aspects for road authorities to consider when designing and evaluating the performance of a road to improve traf

The present study was carried out to provide information of the prevalence of these diseases in some regions of Baghdad. Objectives: to detect the prevalence of human pathogenic parasites in some regions of Baghdad in stool samples and urine samples, and to determine the most common age group affected. Methods: Data were collected from Al-Kindy Teaching Hospital and Medical City Teaching Hospital, in the lab of parasitology from November 2018 to May 2019. The present study included (400) sample, which were collected from patients at different ages of both genders, samples of the st

Objective: To check for hypothyroidism in hyperthyroid patients one year after RAI therapy, comparing between the results of high ablative versus usual dosages of RAI-131.
Methods: This study included 174 hyperthyroid patients, 101 males and 73 females, divided into 2 groups, the first consisted of 162 patients given a usual fixed dose of RAI while the second consisted of 12 patients given a high fixed ablati

Show MoreDengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection that produces characteristic abnormalities in routine blood tests, yet these hematologic changes are typically analysed separately for each parameter rather than as a combined multivariate profile. This study investigated whether the joint hematologic profile of adult dengue patients in Bangladesh is systematically displaced from healthy adult reference values. We analysed a cohort of laboratory-confirmed adult dengue cases from a Bangladeshi hospital and focused on four core hematologic indices: haemoglobin, white blood cell count, platelet count, and platelet distribution width (PDW). External adult reference means were used to define a healthy location vector, and robust multivariate infer

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of JAK2V617F mutation and serum levels ofalkaline phophatase (ALP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in Ph+ CML Iraqi patients treated with imatinib.Blood samples were collected from 42 Ph+ CML patients who have been received at least six month therapywith imatinib. BACKGROUND: Myeloproliferative disorders are a group of neoplasms affecting the bone marrow progenitor cells characterized by excess cells with a risk of transforming to acute leukemia. There is a gap in knowledge about the prevalence of Iraqi population. Thus, we investigated the prevalence and distribution of different types of myeloproliferative disorders in a sample of Iraqi patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cross-sectional study is done at the National Center of Hematology from November 2019 till March 2020 on 75 patients who were diagnosed
