The objective of this study is to evaluate the bacterial count and heavy metal concentration of river water on fish micronuclei. Fish and water samples are carried out in 1 May to 1 June 2013 from Tigris River. A total of fifty three fish sample are studied. The bacteriological quality of water showed that the total viable count is ranged from 150×103 to 352×103 cfu/ml and fecal coliform counts was 1250 cell/100ml during the study period. All the metals (Cu, Hg, Pb, and Zn) are within the normal limit, but Cd was slightly elevated in river water samples. The appearance of micronuclei in red blood cells of all fish species is detect , by recording a larger number of it, in ( Abu Alsomere , Hishne , Bannini Kaber al fam & Karkoor
... Show MoreThe diagnosis of acute appendicitis (AA) sometimes is illusive and the accompanying clinical and laboratory manifestations cannot be used for definitive diagnosis. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in detection of AA. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study that included a total of 80 adult patients with AA and 62 age- and gender-matched patients with abdominal pain due to causes other than AA. Three milliliter of peripheral blood were collected from each participant. The NLR was calculated by dividing the absolute neutrophil count by the absolute lymphocyte count. Receiver operating characteristic curve was used to assess the diagnostic value of NLR in detection

Myocardial Infarction (MI) is most commonly due to occlusion (blockage) of a coronary artery following the rupture of a vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque. It has been suggested that the adipose tissue may play an important role in mediating this chronic inflammatory process, human resistin, is a 12.5-kDa protein, it found in the inflammatory zone. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine, it secreted by T cells and macrophages to stimulate immune response. C-reactive protein (CRP) is a protein found in the blood, the levels of CRP rise in response to inflammation.
... Show MoreThe acute phase response is a major pathophysiologic phenomenon that accompanies inflammation whether acute or chronic. Complement (C3 and C4) and C - reactive protein (CRP) are positive acute phase proteins (+ ve APPs ). Their production takes place in hepatocyte and the blood concentration of these parameters are increased in osteoarthritis (OA). Chloroquine (CQ) is a diprotic weak base traditionally used to treat malaria. Recently the phosphate salt of CQ is used to decrease this type of (+ve APPs) . In this study, patients who suffered from knee osteoarthritis (KOA) are treated with oral dosage form of chloroquine phosphate (CQP) for one month, twice daily. Our results demonstrate that CQP improves the patient status by decreas

It has been suggested that the adipose tissue may play an important role in mediating this chronic inflammatory process. Inflammatory responses are involved in the initiation and progression of atherosclerotic plaques. Resistin is a cysteine-rich polypeptide that is expressed at relatively lower levels in human adipocytes but higher levels in macrophages. Insulin is an important hormone as it regulates the level of glucose, in the blood. This protein is formed in specialized cells of the pancreas called beta islet cells.

The effect of acute toxicity of chromium as (k2Cro4) on Simocephalus expinosus (cladocera) and Mesocyclops hyalinus (cyclopoida) was studied in the present study .Both species can be used as asutible biological indecaters. In addition Both of them are part of crustacean zooplankton.Their position in the fresh water food chain, as the cladocerans constitutes the primary consumers while cyclopoids are part of secondary consumers. To determine LC50 of chromium for the two species the following concentrations of chromium were used 1,2, 3,4, 5,6, 14,18, 22,26,28, and 30 ppm. The results showed that LC 50 o

Show More500 samples of diarrhea stool were collected from different ages(less than 1year –upto30years) and for both genders from some patients in (Alwiya hospital for children, Al-kendi, central health public laboratory and some gavernarated labs) period(1/11/2009—1/10/2010). Kinds of bacteria and parasites agents were isolated and identified from patients with diarrhea. Nine species of gram negative bacteria from enterobacteriaceae were isolated, E. coli isolated are the higher ratio 4.8% of all, then Salmonella typhi4.6% while the lowest ratios is Citrobacterfreundii 0.4%, while the other identified species were be among the previous rotios. also Plesomonasshigelloides was isolated which concedride one of the bacterial local studies.many met
... Show MoreBackground: Neonatal intensive care unit infants frequently experience acute kidney damage. Estimates of the prevalence of acute kidney vary depending on the definitions used. In Iraq, studies addressing the prevalence and risk factors of acute kidney injury in this age group are scarce, none of which has implicated the KDIGO diagnostic and staging criteria.
Objectives: To describe the prevalence, demographics, risk factors, etiology, and staging of acute kidney injury using KDIGO criteria in the Neonatal intensive care unit and correlate these findings with patient outcomes.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit/ CWTH/ Medical Cit
... Show MoreBackground: The accumulation of the lipid in the vascular smooth muscle cell within the arterial intima is a key process of the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a degenerative disease of blood vessels leading to stroke.
Materials & Methods. One hundred and ten patients with acute stroke were included in this study 88 patients with ischaemic or infarction stroke and 22 patients with hemorrhagic type ) as well as thirty apparently normal healthy subjects as controls.
Results.Triglycerides levels and AI only were statistically significant in ischaemic type of stroke (P<0.005) while other lipid fractions were similar to the control values.
Conclusion: Acute stroke patients (infarction type) had significantly
