Numerical Analysis of Mixed Convection in Vented Curved Cavity With a Metal Foam Layer
...Show More Authors
ABSTRACT<p>Heat transfer applications usually contemplated day‐to‐day are primarily spotlighted on mixed convection, such as solar collector heating arrangements, electronic cooling, and drying processes. Enhancing convection heat transmission in such appliances can be achieved by inserting porous media, inflow loci, and/or line geometry. In the present paper, convection heat transmission inside a vented curved cavity () with an inserted metal foam layer ( PPI and 0.9% porosity) saturated with water was accomplished. The bottom cavity wall was discretely heated at a constant hot temperature, and the curved wall was kept at a constant cold temperature. Governing equations comprising continuity, momentum with the Darcy–Brinkmann–Forchheimer model, and local thermal equilibrium energy equation have been used and numerically resolved by utilizing the finite element scheme. The inspirations of pertinent parameters involving metal foam layer thickness (), Richardson number (, , ), Reynolds number (), inlet port position (, , ), and partial heating position (, , ) are scrutinized. The results reveal that flow and heat transfer fields are influenced chiefly by these parameter alterations. Streamlines and isotherms were affected strongly by Reynolds number and inlet port location. The average Nusselt number highly depended on the Reynolds number and the metal foam layer insertion. When and , increasing the metal foam layer thickness enlarges cavity regions with high temperature values, but when , another performance is attained. The position at is recommended in most thermal engineering applications.</p>

...Show More Authors

This paper focuses on Load distribution factors for horizontally curved composite concrete-steel girder bridges. The finite-element analysis software“SAP2000” is used to examine the key parameters that can influence the distribution factors for horizontally curved composite steel
girders. A parametric study is conducted to study the load distribution characteristics of such bridge system due to dead loading and AASHTO truck loading using finite elements method. The key parameters considered in this study are: span-to-radius of curvature ratio, span length, number of girders, girders spacing, number of lanes, and truck loading conditions. The results have shown that the curvature is the most critical factor which plays an important

MIXED CONVECTIVE AND RADIATIVE HEAT TRANSFER IN A HORIZONTAL CONCENTRIC AND ECCENTRIC CYLINDRICAL ANNULI
...Show More Authors

A numerical investigation has been performed to study the effect of eccentricity on unsteady state, laminar aiding mixed convection in a horizontal concentric and eccentric cylindrical annulus. The outer cylinder was kept at a constant temperature
while the inner cylinder was heated with constant heat flux. The study involved numerical solution of transient momentum (Navier-Stokes) and energy equation using finite difference method (FDM), where the body fitted coordinate system (BFC) was
used to generate the grid mesh for computational plane. The governing equations were transformed to the vorticity-stream function formula as for momentum equations and to the temperature and stream function for energy equation.

Synthesis and Characterization with Antimicrobial Studies of mixed Curcumin Schiff Base–L-dopa with Divalent Cations Complexes
...Show More Authors

In the present article, mixed ligand metal (II) complexes have been synthesized with Schiff base (1E, 5Z, 6E)-1,7 bis (4-hydroxy-3- methoxyphenyl)-5-(3-hydroxyphenyl) imino) hepta-1,6-dien-3-one derived from Curcumin and 3-aminophenol as primary ligand and L-dopa as a secondary ligand. The Schiff base act as bidentate and arrange to the metals through the azomethine (C=N) nitrogen and (C=O) oxygen atom. The mode of bonding of the Schiff base has been affirmed on the infrared by the UV-Visible, 1H, and 13C NMR spectroscopic techniques. The magnetic susceptibility and the UV-Vis data of the complexes propose octahedral geometry around the central metal ion. The information appears that the complexes have the structure of [L-M-(L-dopa)] system

Desalination of Agricultural Wastewater by Solar Adsorption System: A Numerical Study
...Show More Authors

There are still areas around the world suffer from severe shortage of freshwater supplies. Desalination technologies are not widely used due to their high energy usage, cost, and environmental damaging effects. In this study, a mathematical model of single-bed adsorption desalination system using silica gel-water as working pair is developed and validated via earlier experiments. A very good match between the model predictions and the experimental results is recorded. The objective is to reveal the factors affecting the productivity of fresh water and cooling effect in the solar adsorption system. The proposed model is setup for solving within the commercially-available software (Engineering Equation Solver). It is implemented to so

...Show More Authors

In this study, a genetic algorithm (GA) is used to detect damage in curved beam model, stiffness as well as mass matrices of the curved beam elements is formulated using Hamilton's principle. Each node of the curved beam element possesses seven degrees of freedom including the warping degree of freedom. The curved beam element had been derived based on the Kang and Yoo’s thin-walled curved beam theory. The identification of damage is formulated as an optimization problem, binary and continuous genetic algorithms
(BGA, CGA) are used to detect and locate the damage using two objective functions (change in natural frequencies, Modal Assurance Criterion MAC). The results show the objective function based on change in natural frequency i

Extension of the Chebyshev Method of Quassi-Linear Parabolic P.D.E.S With Mixed Boundary Conditions
...Show More Authors

The researcher [1-10] proposed a method for computing the numerical solution to quasi-linear parabolic p.d.e.s using a Chebyshev method. The purpose of this paper is to extend the method to problems with mixed boundary conditions. An error analysis for the linear problem is given and a global element Chebyshev method is described. A comparison of various chebyshev methods is made by applying them to two-point eigenproblems. It is shown by analysis and numerical examples that the approach used to derive the generalized Chebyshev method is comparable, in terms of the accuracy obtained, with existing Chebyshev methods.
