One of the crucial public health problems worldwide is the urinary tract infections (UTIs) that are derived from uropathogenic bacteria (UPBs). Slime layer is known to have the ability to permit bacteria to achieve smooth surfaces attachment like catheters and prosthetic implants which in turn, facilitate biofilm formation and may cause lethal infections. On the other hand, Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) production is considered a growing concern among UPBs due to the limiting of the treatment options and contributes to resistance toward antibiotics. The principal study's point is the finding out the slime layer and ESBL production in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae of uropathogenic origin. Ten ready isolates (five isolates for each bacterial type) are gained from Department of Biology, College of Science, University of Baghdad. Disk diffusion method is employed to detect their antibiotic susceptibility towards Ciprofloxacin (CRO 10μg), Ceftazidime (CAZ 30μg) , Imipenem (IPM 10μg), Meropenem (MEM 10μg), Amoxicillin/ clavulanate (AMC 20/10 μg) and Aztreonam (ATM 30μg). Congo Red method is used to detect the production of slime layer for both types of bacteria. Black colonies mean slime layer production and pink colored colonies are not productive. Results show that all the tested bacterial isolates had ability to form slime layer even in different degrees. By using disk replacement method, ESBL production is detected. Results showed that two isolates (40%) of both Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae are ESBL producers, while (60%) of both types are unable to produce these enzymes.

Effect of Argon and oxygen pressure on Zn magnetron plasma produced by RF power supply
...Show More Authors

In this work, the plasma parameters (electron temperature and
electron density) were determined by optical emission spectroscopy
(OES) produced by the RF magnetron Zn plasma produced by
oxygen and argon at different working pressure. The spectrum was
recorded by spectrometer supplied with CCD camera, computer and
NIST standard of neutral and ionic lines of Zn, argon and oxygen.
The effects of pressure on plasma parameters were studied and a
comparison between the two gasses was made.

Use of Panel Method in High Subsonic and Transonic Aerodynamic Analysis of Complex Aircraft Configuration
...Show More Authors

The application of low order panel method with the Dirichlet boundary condition on complex aircraft configuration have been studied in high subsonic and transonic speeds. Low order panel method has been used to solve the case of the steady, inviscid and compressible flow on a forward swept wing – canard configuration with cylindrical fuselage and a vertical stabilizer with symmetrical cross section. The aerodynamic coefficients for the forward swept wing aircraft were calculated using measured wake shape from an experimental work on same model configuration. The study showed that the application of low order panel method can be used with acceptable results

Indirect Electrochemical Oxidation of Phenol Using Rotating Cylinder Reactor
...Show More Authors

Indirect electrochemical oxidation of phenol and its derivatives was investigated by using MnO2 rotating cylinder electrode. Taguchi experimental design method was employed to find the best conditions for the removal efficiency of phenol and its derivatives generated during the process. Two main parameters were investigated, current density (C.D.) and electrolysis time. The removal efficiency was considered as a response for the phenol and other organics removal. An orthogonal array L16, the signal to noise (S/N) ratio, and the analysis of variance were used to test the effect of designated process factors and their levels on the performance of phenol and other organics removal efficiency. The results showed that th

Electronic Structure of Copper Antimony Using Compton Scattering Technique
...Show More Authors

In this paper we present the first ever measured experimental electron momentum density of Cu2Sb at an intermediate resolution (0.6 a.u.) using 59.54 keV 241Am Compton spectrometer. The measurements are compared with the theoretical Compton profiles using density function theory (DFT) within a linear combination of an atomic orbitals (LCAO) method. In DFT calculation, Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof (PBE) scheme is employed to treat correlation whereas exchange is included by following the Becke scheme. It is seen that various approximations within LCAO-DFT show relatively better agreement with the experimental Compton data. Ionic model calculations for a number of configurations (Cu+x/2)2(Sb-x) (0.0≤x≤2.0) are also performed utilizing free a

Block Method for SolvingState-Space Equations of Linear Continuous-Time Control Systems
...Show More Authors

This paper presents a newly developed method with new algorithms to find the numerical solution of nth-order state-space equations (SSE) of linear continuous-time control system by using block method. The algorithms have been written in Matlab language. The state-space equation is the modern representation to the analysis of continuous-time system. It was treated numerically to the single-input-single-output (SISO) systems as well as multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems by using fourth-order-six-steps block method. We show that it is possible to find the output values of the state-space method using block method. Comparison between the numerical and exact results has been given for some numerical examples for solving different type

Synthesis, Characterization and Preliminary Anti-inflammatory Evaluation of New Fenoprofen Hydrazone Derivatives
...Show More Authors

New hydrazone derivatives of Fenoprofen were synthesized and evaluated for their anti-inflammatory activity by means of egg white induced paw edema method. All the synthesized target compounds were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, 1HNMR analysis and by measure of their physical properties. The synthesis of the target compounds(H1-H4) was accomplished by multistep reaction procedures. The synthesized target compounds were show activity in reducing paw edema thickness and their anti-inflammatory effect was comparable to that of the standard (Fenoprofen) except for compound H3 which show anti-inflammatory activity higher than Fenoprofen.

Investigating the Sensitivity Effect of Actuarial Assumptions on Pension Liabilities in Malaysia
...Show More Authors

Malaysia will be an ageing population by 2030 as the number of those aged 60 years and above has increased drastically from 6.2 percent in 2000 and is expected to reach 13.6 percent by 2030. There are many challenges that will be faced due to the ageing population, one of which is the increasing cost of pensions in the future. In view of that, it is necessary to investigate the effect of actuarial assumptions on pension liabilities under the perspective of ageing. To estimate the pension liabilities, the Projected Unit Credit method is used in the study and commutation functions are employed in the process. Demographic risk and salary risk have been identified as major risks in analyzing pension liabilities in this study. The sensitivity

Analysis of Double Skin Composite Slabs
...Show More Authors

This paper deals with finite element modeling of the ultimate load behavior of double skin composite (DSC) slabs. In a DSC slab, shear connectors in the form of nut bolt technique studs are used to transfer shear between the outer skin made of steel plates and the concrete core. The current study is based on finite element analysis using ANSYS Version 11 APDL release computer program. Experimental programmes were carried out by the others, two simply supported DSC beams were tested until failure under a concentrated load applied at the center. These test specimens were analyzed by the finite element method and the analyses have shown that these slabs displayed a high degree of flexural characteristics, ultimate strength,
