Evaluation of oxidative stress activity and the levels of homocysteine, vitamin B12, and DNA methylation among women with breast cancer
...Show More Authors

Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignant tumor in women and the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. This work was conducted to estimate the roles of oxidative stress, vitamin B12, homocysteine (HCY), and DNA methylation in BC disease progression. Sixty BC patients (age range 33–80 years) and 30 healthy controls were recruited for this study. Patients with BC were split to group 1 consisted of stage II BC women (low level), and group 2 consisted of patients in stages III and IV (high level). Malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione peroxidase 3 (GPX3), HCY, and vitamin B12 levels in the study groups were measured. Also, the 5-methylcytosine (5mC) global DNA methylation levels were evaluated. The results showed a significant increase in HCY, and MDA in BC patients compared to healthy controls, with evident increases observed in those with advanced-stage BC (stages III and IV). They were accompanied by significantly reduced levels of 5mC, with a positive correlation between 5mC and the different stages of BC. Also, patients in advanced stages and those with a poor prognosis were exposed to low levels of vitamin B12 and GPX3 (except for the patients in stage IV, which showed increased GPX3 levels). The findings of this study suggest that the differences in global DNA methylation levels at the various phases may be used as a risk factor for developing BC, which indicates the involvement of GPX3 and HCY in BC progression

Abstract
<title>Background and Objectives:

The closeness of residential neighborhoods to oil refineries and petrochemical plants in these areas has heightened the community’s exposure to dangerous air pollutants. This study aimed to investigate the impact of health literacy upon lung cancer screening beliefs among residents of neighborhood adjacent to a refinery oil.

Materials and Methods:

A cross-sectional study design using nonprobability convenience sampling was applied, employin

Performance evaluation of the photovoltaic thermal system with a fin array and surface zigzag layout
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Solar photovoltaic (PV) has many environmental benefits and it is considered to be a practical alternative to traditional energy generation. The electrical conversion efficiency of such systems is inherently limited due to the relatively high thermal resistance of the PV components. An approach for intensifying electrical and thermal production of air-type photovoltaic thermal (PVT) systems via applying a combination of fins and surface zigzags was proposed in this paper. This research study aims to apply three performance enhancers: case B, including internal fins; case C, back surface zigzags; and case D, combinations of fins and surface zigzags; whereas the baseline smooth duct rep</p> ... This research deals with the topic of "the status of women" in the literature of Sufism. The researcher cites a bundle of mystical yarns, and examples of verses and poems from this high literature that look at women with reverence and appreciation. The researcher tried to find an appropriate explanation and away from the arbitrariness of the symbols used by the poets of Islamic Sufism In their poems.

This study involved the effect of the aqueous extracts of two plants, Origanum vulgare L.(1), Trigonella Foenum Graecum L. (Fenugreek) seeds(2) on the growth of cancer cell lines. Rhabdomyo sarcomas (RD) of human cell line and female intestine cells of Albino mice (L20B) in vitro System. These extracts were compared with the known anticancer drug Cis-platinum(Cis-Pt) as a positive control. The phytochemical tests were used for screening the active compounds in plants. The inhibition activity assay was used as a parameter of the cytotoxic effect of these extracts. Cancer cell lines were treated with four concentrations of Cis-platin, 31.25, 62.5, 125 and 250 ?g/ml for 72 hour exposure time. The same concentrations were used for the other ext
